McLeod is the biggest pussy in the NHL. Man - he is allergic to initiating contact. After his line mates laid a few punishing hits in quick succession, McLeod comes in full throttle perfectly lined up for a punishing body check. What does he do? Slam on the brakes and wave his stick of course. The speed and hands that kid has, he could be a beast with some degree of nastiness in his game.

Skinner probably just touched the puck in the no play zone. Lucky Canucks just got a PP.

One or both of these refs should be fired by the NHL prior to the 3rd period.

Seriously - coach needs to go off on the refs. Tocchet got the same result as Carlyle a few years ago. Why are we so passive and wanting to “take the high road”? Fight fire with fire.

There is a ref tonight where the Canucks haven't lost a game in 3 years with him reffing. Feels like that energy is here.

We're 3 for 9 on the powerplay, less two, so 4 full powerplays. NHL playoff games average a little over 3 pp's per game each in the regular season and it moves to 3.2pp per game per team for the playoffs. The first 4 games of rd 1 & 2 have more though with, 3.5pps for each team.
We're on pace so far for average, which is why I feel shorted, as we were in the bottom 10 this year at 2.96pp per game, while 2 years ago it was gravy with 3.35pp opportunities per game (6th best)!

What is Skinner even doing on that last goal? How about just covering the lower part of the net. He's doing a break dance.
Vinny totally clueless too. Leaves 2 Canucks behind him wide open.

Who even is the real skinner? The guy who makes 40 saves looking like a wall or the guy who calmly shrugs off a terrible game saying to forget it and move on. Letting in 3 goals on 8 shots! Pickard should have been in when the 4th goal happened.

That desperate reaching out with stick and feet while falling backwards Skinner does seems like something he stole from Mike Smtih. It's insanely bad technique.

It was LA too. Skinner having to move to make a save is like his kryptonite, and the Canucks can actually make plays and aim shots.

See, if this was a couple years ago, and we'd had rookie Skinner who had played well in the regular season and you had Mike Smith faltering (which of course, we did), then I would be pretty tempted to go ahead and put him in - I mean, maybe you have him step up - we didn't have a lot of visibility on ceiling and other teams wouldn't have had a lot of a book on him.
But Pickard is 32 years old. His numbers this year were his best since Connor McDavid was a sophomore and even then, his save percentage was only .909 - not exactly unbeatable. He has actually never played a minute of a post-season game until last night. He has no track record even at lower levels. He's 1-2 in five AHL playoff appearances. He was 1-4 in five WHL appearances and 2-2 in the Manitoba U18 league...and that's it. That's the sum total of his experience.
He just is a complete long shot to come in and have a playoff for the ages. We are better off hoping that Skinner somehow catches lightning in a bottle again and plays like he did in our winning streak again. That's maybe a longshot, but it's happened, and recently. Pickard has nothing on his resume to compare.
I'm with CrusaderPi on this - if Pickard shines, then the coach looks good, but if he came in and also underwhelmed, then what card do you have left to play?

We lose 1 more and it's probably over, so nothing to worry about after that :)
One thing for sure, Skinner has been a completely mess in net for all but maybe 1 or 2 games in the playoffs. Even that 1-0 win, lots of analytics say we actually got the majority of good chances in that game and all we needed as a shooter tutor in net because the Kings were shooting trash from long range all night.
0 confidence goalie that can't stop anything that doesn't just hit him. Or career mediocre backup that has barely touched NHL ice in playoffs. Decisions decisions.
We are in the final moments of the fully cultivated plan of a 5 year x $5M GM.

And Skinner now at 20GP has literally the worst SV% and GAA of any goalie in the cap era who has played as much as him. He has not really been good. In those 20 games, he has a few good/great games, a few average games, and several bad ones. He's been pulled in 25% of his career playoff starts!!! 5 times in 20 games! And this is not Mike Keenan behind the bench (nor was it last year). That has to be close to some kind of dubious record.

He sure is a long shot. So was Adin Hill. So is Arturs Silovs - he wasn't great the first 2 games, but he was last night, and to close out the Preds.
I don't believe Pickard would come in and rattle off 11 wins in a row. But I believe it's worth a shot. And if giving him a shot tanks Skinner's confidence, well then I would put forth that's probably not the best guy to hitch your wagon to in the first place.

The safe play is to just let the season die with Skinner. I'm sure Schwartz is vouching for his boy. I'm sure Holland is in hope mode that his laziness was justified. Knob can get a pass by just playing the only thing resembling a starter he was given. We can lose and only the GM going out the door looks bad along with Skinner.
Skinner's stats are so insanely bad though and he's clearly let in loads of trash all playoffs, again. I would not think poorly of Knob for trying Pickard now. I don't think anyone should. To me that would be a statement about what a terrible job Holland has done. Same as when Knob dropped Ceci to the third pair as a cry for help and Holland sat on his hands and leaked Ceci is popular in the room.

Adin Hill isn't a great comparison. Not just because was the starter in San Jose the year before. The Golden Knights have a culture of cycling through underperforming players where as the Oilers let the same liabilities linger for years. Year after desperate year. The Knights knew they had risk in the net (Lehner was bad / injured / a snake farmer, Logan had injury issues so they brought in Quick, Hill, and Broissoit. I think they're high on the minor leaguer they drafted too). The Oilers also knew they had risk in net so they made sure Campbell had a really good offseason. That's it.
In any event Silovs and Hill's success is not an argument for Pickard. You only start Pickard if you think he gives you a better chance for success behind the Oilers D than Skinner. If anyone believes that, fine. I'll accept the argument. If you're just hoping a change somehow makes everything better the season is probably already lost.
Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.
