Does Benn get a game? This is the NHL after all.

It's the conference finals, could be an elimination game for the Stars. Benn has been around a long time, been on an Olympic team. Stone might have said something mean to him during the series to make him mad. I don't think Stone was hurt so that's a factor for the NHL. Pietrangelo said the Oilers were going after him with hits so that justified in his eyes trying to break a guys arm so you just never know with the NHL what they will do.

Actual footage of George Parros and the Department of Hockey Safety this morning:

I think clearly this should be 1 game based on Pietro, who admitted he did it as payback for things done to him, skating out of his way to try to break Drai's arm. Maybe even just a fine now, because Benn missed almost the entire game 3, Pietro only lost 90 seconds of a lost game.

But hey, Benn doesn't play for Parros' home town team Vegas (yeah, he lives in Vegas now), so let's see.

I know the Wheel of Fortune picture is meant to be funny but sadly, I almost feel like it isn't far off.

Benn is a key player for the Stars. He got 5 and a game 2 mins into the game from the ref. So I bet the NHL sees that as giving him a 1 game suspension already. Every game in the playoffs is worth way more than a regular season game in the NHL eyes. Then you factor in, it's a conference final so those games are worth even more than a first round game. So it wouldn't shock me if the NHL sees being kicked out of game 3 in the conference finals, 2 mins in, as like a 2 game suspension. Then Then you factor in the Knights scored a PP goal on that penalty to get a 2-0 lead. Stone wasn't hurt. Do I think Benn deserves a suspension? Absolutely. Would I be stunned if he got a fine. Nope.

If he does get a suspension, I bet it's only 1 game for the reasons I said above. Being kicked out in the game early, is a big, big deal in the eyes of the NHL.

Effectively a 3 game suspension for Benn.. with an elimination game coming up.. so essentially a 6 game regular season suspension equivalent.. seem appropriate?

Compare that to Leon and Pterangelo.. Stone had initiated a physical engagement with Benn (PA chased after Leon clear across the ice.. they were not physically engaged.. in fact Leon didn't know he was there until the axe chop) .. it was at the start of the game .. (not in the last 5 minutes of a blow out.. which we've been told is supposed to matter?) .. Benn's cross check happened in a quick moment (PA's was clearly premeditated, from the moment he started to chase Leon across the ice.. intent to injure is supposed to count right?).. Benn's cross check looked like it was initially directed at the shoulder and slid down to Stones neck area (PA's action was a two hand over the head tomahawk chop towards Leon's head.. which one looked more like an intent to injure?).. Benn's cross check was a short stroke (PA's stick started from 7 feet over PA's head)

Funny how Vegas seems to always get the "luck" of the DOPS Wheel of Fortune.. when suspected bias becomes routinely predictable .. is the suspicion no longer just suspicion? If you kept winning at this rate in Vegas they'd ban you from the casino..

Perros .. and that whole department is an embarrassment to legitimate pro sport.. need to go.

Pretty sure the "I should be allowed to swing my stick at the other teams best players because they were mean to me" excuse only works for Vegas. I can't imagine too many other players in the league roll in with that as the defense..and that it works.

Mark Stone really is a hero. He was so injured that he could barely walk let alone play a single regular season game less than a month ago and now he's an iron man. What an inspiration!

Vegas is definitely my least favorite team in the league. I could see Benn getting a suspension because his infraction was against local hero Stone. I would imagine that cross check will put him out for the first 82 games of next season.

I've said this before but I think they were on the way to losing the Edmonton series with 2 minutes left in game 4. The slashing and subsequent thumbs up and approval from the league changed everything. Edmonton still had a chance to bounce back (with goaltending/coaching etc) but in light of the completely appalling way that it was handled with the fighting suspension etc makes it unsurprising that they were not able to.

I think Vegas got gifted the series. We'll never know for sure but I think the Oilers beat them pretty soundly next year. Hopefully in the playoffs as well.

His mistake was saying he did wrong. Pietro owned it, complained about things done to him and make it clear he did it for revenge. Parros ate that crap up and loved it.

Or maybe Parros is terrible at his job. Never know with this league anymore.

And the NHL continues to be inconsistent. Giving 2 games to Benn is way more than I expected so good for the NHL but how this got 2 games, then Pietrangelo goes out of his way to hunt down Leon and do a tomahawk over the head chop on Leon and only gets 1, is baffling. Pietrangelo's was premeditated because he had to go out of his way to get over to Leon to do it. Benn while really bad I don't think was premeditated. He was in a battle with Stone, got pissed off, lost his cool and did something dumb.

Maybe the Oilers actually are really good. at least they beat Vegas twice.

They are a good team. A couple of plays go the Oilers way, they win that series. A couple of their depth guys score a goal, they win the series.

Kane & Hyman were playing hurt....all while Woodcroft was too stubborn about inserting bottom 6 guys into the top 6 despite that strategy working throughout the season.

On the other hand, this Stars team is not just deep on their forward lines but fully healthy too...only to be down 3-0.

Hence Oilers are much better than we think though with plenty of room to improve as well.

So all the Oilers need is no significant injuries, a different coaching perspective, and to play like it's the regular season? Plan the parade.

The Campbell playing well thing could have been a 1 time deal too. Woody chose to ignore. Maybe never comes again in his next 4 years here and he plays like a turd the second he touches playoff ice.

Well, to be fair to Woody, it's not like Campbell had a long history with the Oilers of stringing together a bunch of great performances.

FWIW, I thought that the winner of the Oilers/Knights series was likely to beat the Stars/Kraken winner - although you just never know.

As to the Stars being healthy, that's just conjecture. No one is completely healthy by the third round of the playoffs.

What a brutal way to finish off being swept. Give up the go ahead goal with 5 seconds left in the third.

While I get the schadenfreude against the Maple Leafs or the Flames or the Canucks, I’ll never understand Oilers fans’ (and media’s) need to actively root against former players and rejoice any time they don’t succeed. Just seems like needless hate and really petty.

I think it’s a terrible look on the fan base when people do jackass stuff like that.

Is Matthew Tkachuk now the best player from the 2016 draft? Auston is obviously the best goal scorer, and according to Leafs fans pretty good defensively, but Tkachuk now has back to back 40g/100pt seasons, and well over 1PPG for these playoffs - and not just phantom secondary assists. Absolutely clutch too. 3G and 6 points in the 3 elimination games against the Bruins including the OT winner in game 5 and an assist on the OT series winner in game 7. 3 game winning goals to help sweep the Canes. And he is really annoying to play against. Like a Marchand with size and probably a bit more skill.

I am not rooting against the player. I got no ill will towards the guy and I truly hope he does well in whatever league he ends up in. He seems like a nice guy. My comment was directed towards the people who repeatedly told me how wrong I was, how I didn't have a clue what I was saying and borderline called me stupid that I did not think he was an impact player like others did based on whatever numbers they supposedly had. The JP debate got nasty and the people who believed he was more than he is was the cause. Just because a fan doesn't 100% believe advanced numbers are the end all be all and there is nothing else involved in a players performance, doesn't make a fan stupid when it comes to hockey Adam.

So my comment was a feeling of vindication for all the crap I took over the years for saying that regardless of what the supposed advanced stats said, the actual on ice results when you look past the spreadsheet didn't match what he was doing. I didn't feel hurt or angry or have my self confidence damaged because people repeatedly told me I was clueless, I just found it baffling how so many people could dig in their heels about this player and continually double down on the advanced numbers for so long and not step back and say hmmm, maybe I need to rethink this some because the on ice results continually don't match up to what these numbers say.

For the majority of the time, I felt he was a bottom 6 guy who wouldn't score enough or do enough in the offensive zone to warrant playing him every night. My opinion softened when he came back from Finland and looked like he could be more and was man enough to admit I might be wrong about the guy. But that quickly disappeared 1.5 yrs later and from Jan 2022 he's looked like the player I thought he was and after evaluation from a different team, looks like I was correct. He didn't score a single goal in 24 games with the Canes. (17 regular, 7 in the playoffs). For an offensively challenged team in the playoffs you don't sit a guy 6 straight games and 9 out of your 15 playoff games if you think he can help you score and win. Like it or not, that's a fact especially considering some of the injuries they had.

We won't be qualified by the Canes so he will be a free agent. I could totally see him signing over in Europe because he might be able to get better paying contract and be able to play in a more feature role in a lesser league. NHL wise, maybe he gets a contract but I don't think that is a lock. In 75 games, he had 5 goals, 16 pts and was healthy scratched 9 times by the Canes who were riddled with injuries. Lots of guys with way better numbers will struggle to get contracts next season and some will have to do PTO's. So if he gets one, it will probably me a league min, maybe even a 2 way. But I am not going to talk about the guy anymore. I feel vindicated and don't need to say anything about him anymore.

umm... you do know the Oilers are already out right? Maybe if we had a player with solid advanced stats like JP we could have gone further! Not sure how his team's elimination vindicates you of anything.
The only player I ever remember being mad at after leaving was Pronger.

Hopefully Vegas ends it tonight so the finals can get going asap and get these playoffs over with.

Pretty surprised Benn, the Stars captain would come out after his suspension and try to defend what he did saying he was falling. You pumped your arms into the guys neck, it wasn't because you fell. I don't know how a captain can come out and try to defend his actions. He made a really bad mistake, it really hurt your team, own it. That to me says something about the guy.

I was upset Comrie left, but mainly because I have Comrie jersey... There were a few players that we discovered well after the fact that the player was actually in the right and the Edm media was the real villain. Comrie, Souray, Patrick O'Sullivan.

Look at the wins thought. Even Ottawa has more wins than the Flames. Flames got propped up by all those OT loser points. If you can't win at least 50% of your games, you shouldn't be making the playoffs regardless of being able to get it to OT. You still lost the game.

They weren't propped up by the OTL point, they were held back by their inability to win in overtime. I have to imagine a cardboard cutout would have been able to get more 3 on 3 offense out of that team than the dinosaur they had behind the bench. I think Calgary is a good bet to get 10 extra points next year. The Pacific division might be a lot tougher.

I said the Flames points were boosted up because they got a bunch of points by losing in OT. Which is true. They lost 17 games in OT and got 17 points for those losses. I also said they didn't make the playoffs because they didn't win enough games, which is also true. If they had of won a few of those OT losses, they would have made the playoffs. So then you respond to me and tell me I am wrong and if the Flames won more games, they would have made the playoffs which is what I said.

I'm telling you you're wrong because you are wrong.

The OTL is not a point earned, it's a point lost. I understand that sounds similar but it is a very important difference. The Flames did not get propped up by their 17 OTL points. Those OTLs held them back. It's important to the conversation because it shows the Flames likely under performed.

Of course none of that is material since I was trying to expand the conversation beyond the Flames headline record and project for next year. I'll mention to everyone else in the thread that the Flames were 31-27 in regulation with a terrible (but hilariously miscast) coach.

That's why I literally said in both posts, if they won more games, they would have made the playoffs. So I'm saying the same thing as you.

But whatever. If it makes you feel like the man, then we will go with whatever way you want to word it.

Hey Oettinger bounced back. But, Hill sporting a casual 0.947 too. The man just can't miss a beat.

At least Dallas got to OT :)
