Askarov wants out of Nashville.

https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/nashville-predators/latest-new s/askarov-requests-trade-nashville-predators-have-small-wind ow-to-make-a-deal

I think a Skinner-Askarov tandem would have the potential to be awesome. Run a tandem and have injury/brain fart protection in the playoffs.

I believe having a tandem is and will be the way to go. I think the days of 70+GP goalies are over. Last one was Talbot in 16-17 with 73. Since then the high has been 67.

From 2000-2012, there was an average of 4 goalies every year with over 70GP. Average of 9 every year with 65+GP, 13 with 60+GP

In the last 5 full years, 0 with 70GP, an average if less than 2 per year with 65+, and 7 with 60+.

The Philadelphia Flyers have placed forward Ryan Johansen on unconditional waivers today for the purpose of terminating his contract due to a material breach.

Local boy (here in Port Moody BC).

Wonder if the Oilers redemption bus shows up to collect him.

Likely to grieve this too apparently. I imagine this is another one where they quietly settle it and he's off Philly's books at some point with some additional amount paid to him at some point.

It is interesting to me that other teams don't complain about these terminations too though.

Hm, interesting. I assume Nashville gets off the hook for the 4M they retained too. Lucky.

Wonder what he did. Odds usually some substance abuse type of thing.

Twitter rumours .... saying that he was playing for the Avs, was traded to the Flyers, but then out of nowehre had a hip injury when he reported and never played a game. Then video was posted to social media of him dancing at his wedding, lifting his wife up in the air.

Man, that would be harsh. Hip injury that keeps you from playing at NHL level probably could still let you enjoy your wedding and do a wife lift. Unless his wife is like 300 lbs, then I'd ask way more questions.

Nice summer drama. Hope we get more details :)

Conditions are that if Vegas' pick is a top-ten, then they can swap with the SJ pick if they so choose. Will never happen.

This seems like a really risky deal for Grier & San Jose:

Edstrom was 32nd pick in 2023 and has okay Swedish league stats in first year post-draft. Second time he's been traded already. Sharks got him as the only player involved in the Hertl deal. Chrona has a great name but woeful stats in his first year of pro (albeit with the worst team in the league)

Nolan Burke is a 21 year old ECHLer. Looks like just a throw-in. Askarov (#11 in 2020) has decent AHL stats over two seasons and has played in 3 nhl games so far (6 less than Chrona). Too small a sample size to really draw any conclusions from (6 less than Chrona). I don't know that that is a track record I pay a first round pick for...even if it's Vegas' pick. Also Grier seems in a hurry to dump all the assets he got for Hertl to muddy the waters as to whether that trade was a massive loss as they pay for Hertl to light them up the next several years.

Replying to @reporterchris
San Jose is sending the #VGK 2025 first-rounder in this deal, but will have the option to flip it to their own first-round pick if it falls in the top-10.
