Blowhard Craig Button goes on TV and proclaims this Canadian team might be the best World Junior team ever, then they promptly faceplate against the Czechs.

TC turned into a team full individuals when they hit down 5-2. Felt like watching an Oilers game. They need a much better team effort going into game 2.
The recent scandals have taken a lot of the shine out of this tournament for me as a fan. I found myself switching back and forth from the 2021 World Strongman championship during the 2nd period.

That's the fun of a short tournament. It creates chaos and panic in the player and coaches. Media and fans are always mid-panic, so that part doesn't really change.

Watched R. Shaeffer for the few minutes he was on the ice.. (Bobby Mac was calling him something else on the broadcast.. like "Neil" lol)
Hope I'm wrong.. but so far he looks a few steps behind speed-wise at this peer level.. hard to tell though with so little ice time to view though.. Hopefully his speed picks up in the next couple years or he won't be doing much in the NHL other than a 3rd or 4th line roll player duty.. I know .. its early.
TC had an injury with Dach going down.. so he might be playing a regular shift tomorrow..
https://www.tsn.ca/hockey-canada/owen-beck-added-to-team-can ada-colton-dach-done-for-world-juniors-with-injury-1.1900243
A truer test to evaluate will be when he plays in the WHL playoffs and/or the Memorial Cup πΊ

Milic and the Canadian D aren't inspiring a lot of confidence in this game...
Canada soundly outshooting the Slovaks, but they are still hanging around. Canada is too goal-hungry and they lose assignments in an effort to get on the scoresheet.

Good game from the Slovaks, however I won't lie that it was nice karma to see Nemec crying his eyes out at the end there after blowing kisses to the crowd earlier in the game.
Sorry bud, but you looked like a jerk during your goal... and your prize is to look like a baby at the end.

Agree, blowin' the kisses sealed his fate.. karma she's a b***h .. looked good on him..
Bedard's slalom stick handle through all four Slovak players was perfection.. what a way to end it!
Canada owned that game.. 57 shots .. so many posts.. Bedard alone could have had about 6 goals, so many AAA chances he typically connects on.. good scare for TC.. I noticed a few of the guys getting into the bad habit of blowin' the zone early and looking for offensive breaks.. left overs habits from the blow out games.. need to tighten that crap up vs. other teams that have better offense..
Next one up .. USA
Go CANADA!!
Oh YEAH!

Oh man GREAT win.. Milic just got himself a NHL try-out!
Funny how they out play the Slovaks, struggle to score, and need OT magic to win.. and then win 6-2 over a good US team.
Roy played well.. his PK work was excellent.. he said in the TSN interview that he never plays PK on his CHL team.. great puck IQ.
But is was Bedard that got the train back on the tracks with that first goal.. the game was getting away from them and that turned a switch on Team Canada..
I hate losing to the US above all others.. especially when they have dual citizen players on it who are sons of Canadian NHL players.
Czechs have good snipers.. but I think their D is weaker than USA.. should be a good match up.. need to keep out of the box..
GO CANADA!!
Schaeffer wasn't even playing.. they opted for Oweb Beck instead.. who didn't make through the TC training camp.. sign that coaches think they made a mistake in Schaeffer .. Beck is a do over.
Schaeffer needs a lot of work with his skating in order to make it in the pro's

I think Hockey Canada and the IIHF should learn that this tournament is better played in smaller cities like Halifax. The atmosphere has sounded awesome all tournament.

I don't think they did a great job selling seats in Edmonton - but the prices were extortionary. Who would pay that much to watch kids play?

I just think there are other things stealing focus in NHL cities. Paying NHL prices to watch Canada in the final, sure. I think everyone enjoyed that game last year. I just didn't see or feel a lot of interest in the tournament as a whole. Especially now that the tournament has been through every major Canadian city in the last ~15ish years because of the two year (Canada / not Canada) rotation. I hope they stay away from Canada and the northern US cities for a few years.

Not sure what they did about Edmonton, but when they had it in Vancouver, the 1st thing they did was mandate that all season ticket holders of the WHL Giants had first chance to buy tickets (they announced this a year in advance so that they could sell more Giants seasons tickets.. kinda smart), but had some conditions on them, something like you had to buy a "tournament pass" which included other nations games.. after Giants ticket holders were done, then there was a "lottery" system for the public .. I tried it .. not even a sniff. Regardless, even if you got a ticket, the prices being charged were astronomical.
I tried the lottery for Edmonton's hosting .. zero chance.
What they should really do is charge regular prices for TC games and lower the prices for the other country's games.. just to fill the seats.. instead they tie those games to Team Canada but the people only want to see TC.. and don't even bother going to the other games.. empty seats. I remember getting free tickets to a Czech vs Germany (?) game in Vancouver and the place was empty.
I've given up trying to see TC games in Canada, the WJHC are too big here, best chance is to go see them overseas, where the tournament doesn't have the same following, I remember looking at TC game tickets in Czech that were like in the $30 range a few years ago.. you got to pay for a plane ticket, and an Airbnb.. but you can make a longer vacation out of it!
I think going to a tournament in Latvia.. Czechia.. or any of the Norwegian countries would be awesome!

Latvia is the place I'd want to go. I hear they're an absolute blast at Euro events.
I think Edmonton did something similar. I didn't try because I didn't see value in the packages. I entirely agree with your point about the lesser games. There's not reason to make money off of an Austria game. Just get people into the building. I'd watch them and Sweden for 10 bucks. At $50? No thanks.

I saw that too. Wear a red shirt if you donβt have any team Canada apparel. Not as bad, but I saw a red Sens jersey there too. Irks me for some reason.
