Last Draisaitl call might be the weakest call I’ve ever seen.

They were cool last game letting Vegas run around until it got totally out of hand.
They are just being super proactive now to keep us from doing a thing to finish this one off.

Looking like it might be a long series.
Hoping we have the goaltending advantage.
We have the goaltending advantage, right?

This game was very reminiscent of Game 1. Lazy coverage, grade A opportunities galore, sloppy skating and passing... just an absolute dud.
Looks like the Oilers found out tonight, instead of cementing a lead. What an absolute garbage game.
Throw this one in the nearest garbage and light it on fire.

Stupid penalties usually come back to bite you as they did tonight. And whatever happened to the player formerly known as Nuge.

Jay has had a few days to do that. I'm sure a stretch pass or flipping the puck high to the neutral zone will eventually work.

I blame all of you who were basking in the schadenfreude of the Leafs falling to 0-3.
Disappointing. Oilers need a better effort in game 4. Not much more to say than that.

Oilers started the gaming buzzing at 5v5...then Vegas just REALLY tightened things up in all areas of the ice with their backup goalie coming in relief....
Due to the awkward scheduling of that Kings series inserting a 3 day break between games 5 & 6, it's been about 2 full weeks since the Oilers had a home game (I get LA had to prioritize their arena for 3 professional teams).
^Not trying to make dumb excuses or anything but that first home game after a long trip is always tough.
Game 4 = 0-0. Can't worry about the series as we gotta find a way to win all the little battles next game.
Not taking anything away from Vegas but I don't see them repeating that type of effort at 5v5 next game. I also don't see the Oilers crapping the bed next game after the underwhelming nonsense we witnessed tonight either. As ESPN said, Aidan Hill has 48 hours to process that he's the starter now so the pressure will be on for him too.
Btw, I blame St. Louis for bringing in Justin Faulk and committing to Colton Parayko when Pietrangelo wanted to stay there...ugh

#NHL GameScore Impact Card for Edmonton Oilers on 2023-05-08:
If Ceci isn't injured, as the reason for his play this year, he needs to be replaced. Nurse needs a solid guy with him that can back him up with his chasing guys all over the ice and gambling on zone exits.

Just did it 48 hours prior.
I truly believe if Draisaitl scored on either of those two first period chances we’d be up in the series.
Keep pounding the rock. Don’t change anything. Bad luck and a Power Nap killed us.

Campbell let in two of the first three shots he faced (although one came back due to goalie interference.). He JUST made it to .900 on a very late save. He was no better than anyone else tonight...that's to say, not good at all.

Hard disagree.
Game 2 we won handily, but at 5v5 it was 1-1.
Vegas is outscoring us 10-4 at 5v5. Never going to win a series that way.
Woodcroft has a lot of adjustments to make.

2 wasn't the same from the moment he got hit from behind (no call). Maybe it was just a coincidence that his game did a complete 180 from that exact moment but I doubt it.

First time in a very long time in an effort to control myself, I made the decision to not watch the 3rd period.
I am pretty shocked and baffled by that effort. I have said all along I thought if the Oilers play well, they will win. I think they are the better team but man did they lay an egg. I thought things were looking good after the first 10 mins. They were flying, got a goal from the bottom 6, hit a post, missed a few other chances. Then BOOM, they stopped completely.
I thought the whole forward group was bad after the first 10 mins, expect maybe Foegele. Most looked disinterested for whatever reason. None of them seemed to have any jump. I thought Vegas played pretty dirty and it got to the Oilers big time and they came unglued. The second line with Nuge was horrific. I keep singling out Nuge but he's a critical player to the Oilers secondary scoring and he's been the worst forward on the Oilers all playoffs in my opinion especially when you consider the amount of ice time he gets and how they rely on him. Just when I thought he couldn't get worse, he was worse last night. He keeps saying he needs to pick up his game, needs to shoot more. THEN DO IT!! Shoot the bloody puck. Go after the damn puck, get in there. He looks scared to get near anyone.
Same with McLeod. You are 6'2, almost 210 and skate like the wind. You should be flying around being an absolute menace with your size and speed. My god you are soft. Go after the freaking puck and get in there and my god, SHOOT!
Yamo, what the hell do you do? Seriously. What do you do to contribute to the team. These 3 have been absolutely brutal, no shows and when you play a 11 forwards, that's over 1/4 of your forwards that literally do nothing.
The offense in general. Brossoit goes down, you have a cold goalie coming in. You'd think you'd want to pepper the guy. NAH. Show time. The amount of overpassing and trying for the perfect goal was ridiculous. Good lord, GO TO THE NET. I really wish the Oilers would have a forum with the fans and the players in the room and ask the fans what we want. This playoffs, do we want to see unreal, highlight reel goals and risk not scoring and losing or do we want the team to win? I would bet pretty much every fan would gladly sacrifice not seeing highlight reel chances and goals for a win.
The defense. Bad. All of them were bad.
Goaltending. My leash for Skinner is getting really, really, really short. The amount of times he got beat clean is concerning. Whiteclouds and Eichel's goals I didn't love. He got just beat clean. No screen, no one timer. Just beat him.
They need to split up McD and Leon. Nuge is useless right now, his line is getting destroyed. Pairing McD and Leon to go nuclear only works if Nuge can keep his head above water and he's drowning.
I expect the Oilers to come out in game 4 flying and beat the Knights. I still think the Oilers should win but my good, be better.

That's the thing - as much fun as it is to watch 97 and 29 together, it just completely neuters the 2nd line. IMO, the lift to the 2nd line >>> the drop off on line 1 when you replace one of them with Nuge or Hyman or Kane.
What are the stats GF vs GA with 97 and 29 on the same line? It seems like they dominate and create tons of high danger chances, but my eyes don't always tell me the truth

I agree. When you put McD and Leon together, you are almost guaranteeing yourself to score 1-2 goals a game when they are playing well. First 10 mins of the game, they were unreal and probably unlucky not to get at least 1 goal. But it only works if Nuge can play as a passable second line center. He doesn't have to be great, just passable and this playoffs, it's not even close. He's been awful. He's playing as a mediocre at best 3rd line center. I like Bjugstad but he's a 3rd line center. So they have 2 guys trying to be a second line center who aren't capable and they are getting destroyed.

Yeah I don't understand why seemingly 29/97 have to play together every game in the playoffs. The entire stretch run where they were the best team in the league they were apart. And the first few games of the playoffs they dominated the play (if not the score) with them apart. Unless there are injury based reasons that we don't know about then I don't see any excuse to continue playing them together at even strength.
I don't see how they can continue to roll Skinner out there.

I think they were put together in the LA series because McDavid's linemates couldn't get anything going with him.. (91 +56 ?) LA's system had him stifled.. LD's line was doing some damage but not enough.. the change worked.. at least one line (97 + 29 + ?) got something done.. and it was enough
Lot more problems now.. 18 was likely hurt before but even worse now after the leg shot by Hague last night .. 93 looks like 65% .. 91 is clearly not 100% probably still ribs broken and he pulled something (goin?) in an earlier game.. 56.. he's struggling to be effective .. so maybe 29 + 97 is the bandaid for now..
.. but as ineffective as some of the forwards have been the real killer has been mistakes and weak play in D-zone coverage, + consistently committing unforced turnovers.. they seem to do this more at home.. maybe trying to do too much, a riskier play, in front of a home crowd?
Not sure of the answer, but it starts with keeping the puck out of your end

I don't really understand the need to rip in to half the team every time we lose. They didn't become bad players overnight, it's not that they 'can't handle the pressure of the playoffs.' It isn't that they're too small or too slight or anything else like that.
I think it's fair to rationally critique, and to spend time contemplating what is working and what is not, but you have to look at the total picture, not focus on a couple mistakes over the course of a single game.
I have been consistently questioning the use of Desharnais (who looked much better at home - in part because the coach has more control over matchups) and I think Holland's decision to not get a real goalie is once again exposed and subjecting the team to way more risk than we should see. We're lucky that Skinner emerged this year, because I can say with absolute certainty it was never imagined that he would be the playoff starter when they were looking at options last summer.
Still, you can't get too high after a single win or too low after a single loss. I believe Skinner can bounce back. I believe the team is capable of lighting up a team's 4th or 5th string goalie and he just got a little lucky last night. I think the coaching staff can tweak the gameplan to perform better against what the Knights are giving us. I don't believe our players are lazy or stupid or don't understand what they're playing for. And I believe the Oilers will win the series.

This is how the world is now Adam. We get raw emotion, instant reaction, and feelings masquerading as facts. Absolutely no allowance can be made for the possibility the other team being could be good at hockey and also trying to win hockey games. Everything has to be focused inward because nothing can be valued more than the self now. This is why people blame the refs for being biased or somehow think NHL players simply aren't trying enough in the playoffs. LA was a good hockey team and they could have won that series. Frankly they were unlucky not to be up 3-1. Vegas is also a very good hockey team and they're certainly going to try to go up 3-1 tonight and they might be able to do it despite the best efforts of the Oilers.
We live in a world where we all know Steve Dangle's name, Marc Spector still has a job, and Ryan Rishaug is blasted for reporting news instead of all the valid reasons we have to ignore his work. I don't think this is about to get any better.
