A old man is the primary starter? How is that helping development?

You're talking about Pickard?
I think they want him sharp in case they ever have to bring up a goalie due to injury..
Noticed Fanti is on the ECHL Fort Wayne team.. guess they want him getting reps.. I think he's better than Rodrigue..

Would it make sense to take a look at Broberg or Kesselring in place of Bouchard right now?
Evan's missing assignments a lot right now and might need a sit down for a few games to settle himself.
It's nice that we have some organizational depth at the developmental level for defensemen not though. Those two and Niemelainen waiting in the wings is a nice situation.

I am likely on my 4th or 5th thread mentioning this but I really don't think Bouchard is the issue. I have said that I think him and Nurse are the Oilers best D in almost every game.
Even if I back off that, Bouchard has been better overall than all the other 4 non-Nurse D except Ceci from time to time. Even when he has a bad game he is better than Kulak and Barrie.
For the few of you that think he is terrible enough to scratch for a few games, you are going to have a stroke when you see his next contract...

Some just incredible takes from folks. Sit Bouchard for a farmhand??? My god.
I mean, we played Ryan Murray last night, and people think we can afford to sit Bouchard or Nurse???

6 games, 4 points for Broberg. It sounded like he was nicked up a little early in camp which hampered him. I am hoping he is rounding his game because it's pretty clear the Oilers expected Broberg to be full time on the team and Murray was a spot duty guy.

Part of me hopes they do for three straight games. While small, that should be enough sample size to quiet the idiots, both in media and fans.
Everyone would see just how valuable those two are if the 6 dressed were;
Ceci
Barrie
Kulak
Murray
Nemo
Broberg
That's a last place group if I have ever seen one

The Buzzards beat the Wankers in Calgary 5-1 tonight.. Lavoie with another goal.. guy is getting consistent.. watch him on the ice.. almost forgot he's 6'-4" .. pretty imposing physically.. using his size now.. he's starting to figure it out down there.. progression. If he gets a call up it'll be interesting to see if his quickness is enough to survive in the NHL but hard to verify watching AHL .. If this guy can skate in the NHL.. he'll be good.. great shot and quick release.. plus he's just a plain ornery dude..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVR1LwSnhHI
Oh.. and Kesserling.. man.. kid is leading the AHL in goals for defensemen.. great skater.. 6'-5" .. he's acquired some real swagger down there... and a RIGHT shot.. if he clicks .. it will open up the Oiler Defense (and cap) options dramatically.
Good Times!

Haven't seen the games.. just listened on Condor Radio.. the part I'm not sure on is Lavoie's speed and quickness, he's got a snipe shot and release, and size at 6"4", just not sure if his speed is adequate for NHL right now, LD's was not up to NHL speed his first year, but worked on it and improved dramatically.. Lavoie could do it too.. it'll be fun to follow him and find out. :)

Condors start their playoffs on Wednesday with a best-of-five against the Canucks feeder team from Abbotsford.
I'm never too sad if we lose out early in the AHL playoffs when there's a NHL playoff drive because then we can bring up the taxi squad. I suppose it's not that bad for them if they get a long playoffs too - so long as their top guys (the ones most likely to get call-ups) don't get hurt.

I was planning of heading to Abby for the games but they play same nights as Oilers.. bummer.
I think if the Buzzards go on a run that it might be better NHL preparation for the Black Aces to be getting into playoff games at the AHL level than hanging around the Oilers for practice only.

I just worry about people getting hurt in games that I don't give a fig about. Would be good to have Holloway and Niemelainen available if we need them, and both have been hurt in the minors at some point this year. It's a rough league, and I can't imagine that improves in the post-season.
So I won't shed any tears if they just survive a series without major injuries and get knocked out of Calder Cup contention.
