No Cups

So uhh... with McD calling out coaching, Draisaitl calling out coaching, team playing like crap..

You know I would be okay if the team sat these playoffs out, because a lot has to fixed with the team focusing on team defensive prowess as well as it's offensive edge.

Utah should be a win but I'm thinking maybe not.

The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.

Generally Disappointed.

IMHO coach is only part of the problem.. the biggest problem is the roster.. after 97, 29, .... maybe 2, 93, 18, 14, 92, who is driving the play .. at all?
Bulk of roster not NHL championship caliber.. too slow, non-physical, lack of top end skill and worse.. unengaged

However, I'd say skating is the biggest differential.. without McDavid the team has average speed.. we do well against slow teams but the ice gets tilted playing the faster teams.. if we didn't have McDavid's speed, and the time on ice he provides, we'd be bottom 5

McTavish kinda called it on Stauffer yesterday.. he says "half a dozen" players aren't good enough.. but I'd say there is a few more than that.

.. and if the roster is the biggest problem.. then I'd say the cause of the problem lies with the GM, scouting.. and team president.

McT used a good perspective.. who on the Oilers would Tampa want to acquire to replace what they have? .. I'd argue its a very short list

Transcribed from Staples article.
Quote:

Said MacTavish: “There’s probably half a dozen or more players on that Edmonton lineup Saturday night that Tampa would have no interest in in helping their team, or they’d have no ability to help Tampa.”

MacT continued: “And, you know, they’re all good players. You don’t get to the NHL without being a good player.
But there’s a standard there if you want to have success and want to consistently win games in the NHL that you have to have… On a fundamental level, every player has to be able to make at minimum plays that can continue the play. And you have to make plays with the puck. And we have a lot of guys in our lineup that really struggle to do that currently.
And if your intent is to evaluate this team as a Stanley Cup potential team, you better have players that can do it in traffic under high pressure in the playoffs against the league’s best defenders. And I just really don’t see it.
And I haven’t seen it pretty much most of the year. It gets masked, of course, because of the brilliance of the big guys. Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl, Evan Bouchard, (Ryan) Nugent-Hopkins at times, Zach Hyman.
I mean, we have some high, high level skill, but down our lineup they’re not NHL championship caliber players. And that’s gonna make it tough for us going forward, in my opinion.”
