3 Cups

Bouch with a monster game

Had loss written all over it, but wow.

What a win. Ugly. But we got it

Ugly? What did you find ugly?

I thought the team played really good for the most part. Not a perfect game by any stretch but it was far from "ugly". Caps got lucky to get a point.

Stastney nice deflection goal now. But past Ingram.

Now someone else on our team almost kicked one in on Jarry. This team is in disarray.

Stastney seems to have stuff like that happen to him a lot. I dont know if it is bad timing and angles by him or simple bad luck but he has a lot of pucks bounce off of him and towards the net.

Our bottom 4 D and bottom 6 forward group might collectively be the crappiest looking I’ve seen in years.

I disagree on the bottom 4 side. I dont think Nurse is as bad as some believe. If he was being paid a couple million less I maintain that a lot of fans would love him. Walman has had a rough time since coming back from injury but I still think he is a good enough second pairing guy.
Bottom 2 is a concern.
They dont even need good play from the bottom half of the roster. The top half is good enough to win with acceptable play by the supporting cast, including goalies.

No Cups

What was that???

Neither side at it's best, Oilers with an goalie pull yet it's the Caps goalie who lets at least 3 through him. No one wanted to keep a lead for very long. Both teams PP were below average and yet that was a hell of a fun game to watch and a game that if you didn't watch hockey and were watching for some reason would grab your attention and may make you give hockey a chance.

Bouch with a hell of a game, that pass at the end for McDavid whilst being whacked at, was excellent.

IMO Nurse is having a rough season. His xGF is his lowest in over half a decade. Lots of our D have had abysmal stats with him, and it even got Stecher traded to went on to be perfectly fine with Toronto (and he was fine here too in his time away from Nurse, but we decided to just ignore that).

Also really strangely he seems to have lost trust to be on the first PK unit. Maybe rightfully so. His xGA/60 on the PK is his highest of his entire career while getting his PK time against 2nd units instead of first units. No idea what happened there, but this has lead to his overall use dropping ~1:30 per game. Not even taking advantage of that elite athletic pedigree anymore. Lowest ice time/game since his 3rd NHL season.
