PICKARD, again, was a difference maker.
...kept up with the Kings at least.
...hope 29 isn't worse than whatever problem he had before.

...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

PICKARD, again, was a difference maker.

3 solid performances in a row. .929, .909, and .931. Oilers record when we get >.900 save %: 34-1-2.

So far this year:

Pickard: 20-8-1, .901%, 2.66GA
Skinner: 24-18-4, .894%, 2.91GA

You must have not watched that 1 game in the playoffs were Skinner was good.

Great win .. Pickard stole that game.. big saves at big times..

One note, Bouchard showed well on the final offensive stats .. but the biggest problem with his play as a defenseman was front and center stage on the 2nd goal against.. he puck watches the entire time the Shark coasts right down Main street behind him for an open net goal.. just a total lack of awareness .. all he had to do was a simple shoulder check at any point during the time he approached the net.. nothing.. he didn't have a man to cover.. just stood there watching the puck in the corner.. this is simple, basic stuff.. he's 25.. still doing the same things wrong.. everyone keeps hoping he gets smarter defensively .. but it just hasn't happened .. his coaches must have gone over these things with him since his rookie year.. just hasn't sunk in.. I can't understand why.. its basic stuff.. as a contrast.. I've noticed Nurse is playing much smarter in his own end this year.. much better at picking up open men this year..

Based on this year's play, Bouchard's next contract will come with some risk IMHO.. if he asks for $10+M and he keeps giving up the grade A chances against off weak play & decisions .. it could come with some regret..

I’d love if Bowman explored moving Bouchard for a quality goalie, and using the leftover money they’d have paid googly eyes to sign a guy like RHD Pionk, and let Walman run our PP.

I’m just a guy with a dream of a better goalie. I feel like we don’t need some elite 80-dman when Walman would likely put up 60 and play better.

I think historically that chasing veteran goalies eventually burns you.. Oilers should acquire two goalie prospects every year and hope one of the chips in goal eventually pays off..

Bouchard is an enigma.. he has the offensive skills.. and you keep hoping he eventually learns to play defence.. which should be a teachable component, as its only mental awareness and decision making.. should be able to gain that knowledge through experience.. he doesn't seem to have picked it up yet.. will he? .. confused2

I agree that veteran goalies do burn out, and I’m not pretending to know who is out that they could chase and I’m not talking about a guy like Quick either. Acquiring 2 goalie prospects a year is something Edmonton should have been doing for the past decade, but here we sit with more questions than answers two weeks before the playoffs.

It’s time to get someone dependable in the crease. This window is going to close without a championship and the most glaring hole in the lineup continues to be overlooked.
