Having a career best year with 43 points in 65 games. Turning 27 next week, so should be able to perform through most of the deal.
9M may start to be a baseline for a top pair D with the expected cap increases. Dobson and Bouch smiling today even with Dobson having DeAngelo pushing his way onto the PP.

Also apparently doesn't believe in lightbulbs and is now lighting his house with beeswax candles. Eats raw organs of animals saying it tastes disgusting but he's sure it's good for him. And a big fan of the nutty no-vaxx Kennedy.

Chychrun has lost a lot of games to injury so far in his career.. that contract has possibility to not age well.. but it works for Capitals.. they don't have any young D coming up.. good to solidify one piece.
Bouchard is not $9M value IMHO.. but someone will pay him that.. so Oilers will probably be forced to give him D. Nurse money. Bouchard's defensive ability.. and over all hockey IQ is not that high.. that contract could easily become a boat anchor.. whatever he gets is not based on this year's play.. its based on the hope he learns to play defense and stops making game losing defensive blunders.
Rather have a 23 year old Holloway and Broberg right now..

4 point night for Broberg last night. 2 for Holloway to take him to 60 on the season with an outside shot at hitting 30 goals this year.

It really is the gift that keeps on giving. But they had to have flexibility to spend the same money + assets on worse players six months later. Who could have seen that coming?

Again - Broberg supposedly didn't want to be here. Fine - move him at the draft or whatever.
But Holloway? He wanted to stay, and they could have signed him earlier for a lot less than the $2.29M he signed for, but even at $2.29, that was never going to be a gross overpay.

I dunno man. Bouch was playing amazing defense last playoffs, and the one before. Not just offense, but defensively too. He and Ek were playing some of the best defense we have ever seen on this team. I think Bouch is just forcing plays way too much this year. He knows what the safe option is, he just doesn't want to accept it this season. We see that with our other elite guys too, especially McDavid this season. Maybe overconfidence has lead him into stubbornness and frustration with his play, with the pressure of his contract layered on top. There is still a very elite player between those ears and we just have to hope it comes out again once the real pressure is on again.

Just out of curiosity, was wondering how Chychrun's last 2 years compare
HDCA/60 went from 11.68 top 11.63 (this is quite a bit worse than Bouch just to note)
xGF from 47.4% to 48.53%
Offensive zone starts 53.34% to 57.57%
This is almost exactly the same player, but one year he was -30 and the other +24.
What's the big dif? PDO from 0.969 to 1.036. Suddenly when he's on the ice his linemates can aim shots (his own sh% almost doubled too), and his goalie can make saves.
Still a guy getting favorable zone starts but also giving up a lot of quality chances, almost identical analytics both years. He just ended up with the stars aligning for him right when he had his contract year.

Sounds like this will age poorly and puck luck has made him bank.
