1st is conditional top 12 protection.. if top 12 Oil can change to 2027 1st
I've watched Berglund.. I doubt he ever makes the SJ line up.

A first round pick for some bum I’ve never even heard of!? This team is pathetic and will never win a cup and continues to piss away the careers of 2 superstars. First round picks should be reserved for something that actually moves the needle.

You not hearing of him doesn't make him a bum. I dont know a pile about him but have noticed him (in a good way) when seeing him play in the past.
I havent watched enough to know for sure where he fits in to our D. From my limited viewing and reading about him this morning there does seem to be a player there and I think he will be an overall upgrade and will "move the needle".

He does seem like a reliable player that can hold up playing a decent amount of minutes. I wonder if he will be tried with Nurse on the 2nd pair. Kulak/Nurse works sometimes, but I feel like Kulak really starts to fade when he gets too much ice time above the 3rd pair. If Walman can be a puck mover for Nurse on the right, and keep up playing 20 mins+ a night, we'll be in better shape. Kulak/Emberson should be a very good 3rd pair in the playoffs.

That's okay. With the way the Oilers draft and develop, you probably wouldn't hear tell of the 1st round pick either. rofl

Gotta give Grier credit on Walman. He actually produced a bit for the Wings, I have no idea why Yzerman gave San Jose a 2nd round pick AND Walman for future considerations. What kind of trade is that?

Now Grier turns Walman into a 1st round pick.

So, overall Grier gets a 2nd, 1st and Berglund for future considerations.

Just brutal giving up a first rounder for a LD. Why not just keep Broberg and save yourself the pick? Asinine pickup by the Oilers.

No need for this to be conditional 1st.

Now we don’t have our 1st round pick available to trade in 2025, 2026, and 2027 and our goaltending tandem is Stuart Skinner + Calvin Pickard.

I hope that because we have the option to change our pick to 2027 that it means we can trade the 2027 pick if we want and just lose that option.

Disappointing deadline overall. Hopefully Walman helps out, but our biggest holes were speed and goaltending and neither were addressed. I guess they are hoping for big things from Kane in the playoffs. Otherwise we’re not making it out of the second round if we can even get out of the first round. Unless for some strange reason our goaltending dynamic duo goes on a tear. Older, slower ever good formula to win.

So that’s it? No goalie? That’s disappointing.

I can understand we would be negotiating from a position of weakness right now. And there would only be a tiny amount of goalies you could even trade for at this point of the season. The goalie thing really needed to be addressed last summer or very early in this season.

TSN says Kane won’t return during the reg season. Does this mean they might be able to shop a bit? Silov would be an upgrade or even Gibson.

So they finally find a way to circumvent the cap (almost fumbled it) and then don’t use all of Kane’s space?? Classic Oilers doh

We even paid a team extra to not use more of it with the Frederic deal :)

But, hey, if Holland was still here, maybe we don't even have Walman. Baby steps.

Super disappointing that we weren't really players again here. I do like Walman, but we had cap space, went out of our way to find additional space, and then just didn't use it.

We also didn't address the team's most glaring need with even a band-aid solution (like when Vegas acquired Quick ahead of their Cup run - even though they didn't play him at all).

I'm a little concerned about the plan being laid out by Bowman to play Frederic potentially as a top-6 forward. I don't see a lot in his numbers that suggests that's a great place for him.

I'm also a little concerned about coaching. Increasingly, we're seeing risk aversity from Knoblauch that's led him to scratch Jeff Skinner repeatedly rather than trying him in the Top-6, despite the fact that Podkolzin and Arvidsson have woeful results with Draisaitl. Skinner has more points than both of them, while playing almost the whole year down-roster. Perry too has more points and he's mostly been consigned to a depth role. I'd love to see the team try to give Leon someone who can put the puck in the net occasionally.

Dallas, Colorado and Florida all got a lot better today. We'll have to go through AT LEAST one of those teams at some point. And we'll have to do it with a goalie where you're always just praying he doesn't melt down.
