I blame Columbus. Oilers were expecting an easy night. Columbus was rude and did not oblige. Just classless.
Almost lost Perry to an awkward hit, and Hyman had to take a full slapper off his leg as we chased the game all night after slacking off to start.

...apparently 30 minutes of hockey isn't enough.
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

Whatever... it's one loss. They'll lose more before the end of the season.
That said, anyone that thinks this team is a contender or an SC favourite is kidding themself. Efforts like that show people how disjointed the Oilers can become and stay for prolonged periods of time. Against a team that brings the heat, hard and fast... the Oilers are going to get turnstiled.

In 2006 after the Oilers got Roloson and Samsonov they immediately lost to Columbus. I'll take this as a sign.

It’s one less. Move on oilers. Shouldn’t have lost it, but it is what it is

P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks (OK he got one right...) K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier, J. Eberle = R. Spooner,

Dopey hockey, too much high risk puck handling.. Leon (getting some bad habits), Foegle Bouchard, Ceci, Nurse..
Leon especially lately, he takes off with the puck, gains the zone .. everyone else moving up with him skating forward.. he gets tracked down.. stops moving his legs.. then tries a low chance pass through legs and sticks that too often creates a turn over and goes the other way for an odd man chance against.. guy needs to keep moving.. he thinks he can post up during 5v5 like he does on the powerplay .. goes badly.

I thought that was one of the worst games I have seen puck handling wise from guys who are usually pretty good.
McD, Leon, Bouch, all struggled to handle the puck. Put it behind you, move on.
They looked like a team that wasn't focused last night but more focused on new lines with 2 new players and wondering if one or 2 of their buddies will be there tomorrow.

Horrible game. Move on.
One thing that caught my attention: after McDavid got his 100th point of the season, the broadcasters talked about how it was his 7th 100 point campaign and he likely would have had eight in a row if the 19-20 season hadn't been stopped by COVID (he had 97 points when play was suspended).
By the NHLs logic shouldn't McDavid be considered to have gotten 100 points that year? If they can say that Neal got 20 goals for the purpose of awarding Calgary our third round pick, obviously McDavid's season easily pro-rated to well over 100 points.
So I think we should officially declare that McDavid in fact HAS gotten 8 straight 100 point seasons.

There's an argument that the play-in round should have counted as regular season stats, rather than playoff stats given that it's a weird fifth round and there's a bunch of extra teams competing in it...McDavid had 9 points in those four games against Chicago.
