Dominant for most of the game. Connor Brown the only consistently useless Oiler icon_lol Dead last tonight analytically and visually.

Team looks competent in most situations on the ice, which is not normal, but I hope it's a new normal.

Nice goal by Bedard. I felt like McDavid was trying extra hard to force things to try to get his own highlight, but didn't quite hit the mark. Oh well, 2 points anyways. And Gagner 3.0 continues to amaze.

Was 14 rows behind the bench last night. Draisaitl was visibly agitated about something after some shifts. Pissy, if you will.

Brown looks like a career AHL'er filling in due to a raft of injuries. He's starkly out of place out there.

At least he's a league minimum contract though. Nothing coming to bite us for that one.

It's kind of crazy how hard they've tried to fit that square peg in to the round hole. I always wonder with things like that how much influence the GM is using to try to make his atrocious signing (and even more atrocious decision to keep him after 9 games) look better by hopefully getting some level of production.

But between Kane's inability to make a pass and Brown's inability to do anything, it's not great for Leon.

I mean Kane is having a pretty good year offensively. Nearly half a goal per game, 40 goal pace. I’ll take that in the top 6 all day.

Or a bad goalie signing by the GM, that’s taking a ton of starts from Rodrigue and hampering his development in the minors

But that’s more to have a “possible” NHL backup for Starter Stu, than it is the GM trying to save face. I’m just not convinced that Campbell will ever be that guy. His numbers are pretty weak against AHL talent. He seems terminally broken. The Skinner/Pickard tandem doesn’t give me much comfort. Unless somehow Holland can parachute a goalie into this organization, the conversation of bringing Rodrigue up needs to start happening. He’s only had 5 AHL starts this season.

The AHL goalie handling since the demotion sure seems to suggest that the Oilers haven't given up at all on Campbell. They're sacrificing the development of the guy who's the organization's best chance as goalie of the future in order to keep running out a shattered wreck of a netminder to get lit up by AHL shooters again and again.

Probably the best game of the year for LD in terms of backcheck/without the puck though. He's a great player, and I still like to imagine what he'd be if that level appeared more frequently. Not 100% of the time, because not even McDavid does that, but with LD you can see what he has in him and it comes out sometimes, but just can't be physically sustained, I'm guessing.

If Brown could be traded, would the bonus follow him to the acquiring team?

I'm not certain - but I think it might be pro-rated.

Should most definitely be looked at. Like now. If it's pro-rated, we've played just over 30% of the season, so we could save $2.2M next year? That's worth a pick at least IMO. 1 assist and a team worst -8 in 20 games. If the bonus does follow him out the door, they really need to pay the price to flush this mistake sooner rather than later.

Looks like team bonus is hit with pays 100%

Jagr 14/15. Jagr had a 45 game 2M bonus. He was traded to Florida after 57 games played. Lucky Lou confirmed Jersey pays it all.

https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/12388464/florida-panther s-acquire-jaromir-jagr-new-jersey-devils-two-draft-picks

The Panthers will pick up the full prorated remainder of Jagr's $3.5 million salary, but the Devils are responsible for his $2 million games-played bonus, which he has already achieved, Lamoriello confirmed to ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun.

The Oilers would have had to pay it - but would the cap hit be pro-rated?

And I don't know who would take Brown now. 0-1-1 playing mostly top-6 minutes with the best players in the league? How do you convince anyone that they should trade for him? Other than packaging good assets with him.

McDavid continues his tear. Crazy that after an 8 game winning streak we’re still on the outside looking in, though we do have games in hand on the Preds and the Yotes.

And Bedard - what a shot. I know it’s crazy early to say something like this, but I think this kid wins multiple Rocket Richard trophies and barring injury he will challenge Gretzky/Ovi for all time goal mark. One of the best shooters I’ve ever seen - that he’s only 18 is mind blowing.

Still behind by a point I think. Yotes are on 28, we're on 27. We do have two games in hand over them though.

Not our prettiest game of the year by any stretch, but we did a pretty good job of really limiting Chicago's chances. Tampa will be a good test tomorrow.

That was exactly what I wanted to see. A very mature, professional win. No need to try to go showtime for the fans and take unnecessary risks. They were the better team from top to bottom. It showed. They took advantage of mistakes. Scored a timely PP goal. PK was great again and they were defensively sound. They gave up 9 shots in the last 2 period. Tough for any team to score when you get that few opportunities.

I have to give the old man crew on the 4th line a ton of credit. Ryan has 3 goals, 6pts in 26 GP, Gagner 4 goals, 7 points in14 GP, Hamblin 2g,3 pts in 16 GP. All plus players. I don't think you can ask for much more out of your 4th line. I think for the playoffs they could use some size. Gagner made the joke first time in his career he was the biggest guy on his line. But for now, they are doing a good job. For smaller guys, they get in there. I wish that would rub off a little on McLeod. He's gone quiet again the last 4 games.
