Tough loss but fun game.
I don't like Mayers tone of voice or inflection but he is the best color guy the Oilers have used in years. Lots of good insight and description of strategy changes. I hope he gets more games.

He was rough the first game (Tampa?), but tonight he was much better and more relaxed.

The losses keep piling up. Soft play at the blue line by a defenseman who should just play wing, to lose zone possession at the end. Oh well.
Otherwise, gaffes and blown coverage are still automatic goals.
I'm not sure how the club can get players to pick up loose guys in the defensive zone. Effed if I know. No one is held accountable, by the staff, the leadership group, no one.
I'm still not clear what Kane did to remove himself for 10 minutes or whatever it was.
Each loss is a little knife into the season. Time is running out..Tick tick tick.
I'm pretty close to being beyond caring, not worth it. I dont give much of a feck about any talk about superstars leaving town at this point either. Beyond my scope, dont care.

The Oilers are on what? Year 13 of this? They haven’t been close to defensively competent since the Taylor Hall rebuild.

Soft as Charmin.. consistently choosing to stick check in lieu of a body check.. which never even slows a guy down.. or impede their progress.. you don't have to crank guys.. just get in their freaking way.. clog up their cycle.. or D-zone break out.. basic.. oh.. and if the other team has the puck in your own D-zone.. and you're standing all alone by yourself.. guess what.. there is an open man somewhere you should have.. this is simple stuff.. and they know this.. but stubbornly refuse to execute..
Thought Broberg show good glimpses of what he could be.. the guy has the skating to take the carry puck out.. bad luck stepping on that stick..
Bouchard .. .. might be a better winger..
Nurse.. starting to feel he might be a better winger as well..

If we didn't have bad luck we would have no luck at all.
Ekholm tries to clear the zone, but the puck hits Hyman in the back as he was skating to the bench to replace a broken stick. Puck stays in the zone, Florida ends up scoring off a very stoppable weak wrister.
Broberg skates backwards and has his man covered, but steps on a broken stick & goes down, leading to a two on one. Florida scores.
Two goals right there that ended up being the difference in the game, and both down to fluke bad luck.

Can we have a redo? Seriously this is some painful, not even 20 games in and it feels so long… more guys need to be held responsible than Campbell.

Is management seriously going to let Holland be the guy trying to fix this mess? Just asking for more pain, years of pain.

Ironically Holland could be the only one capable of fixing this mess. The Oilers have no Cap Space, no assets, no time, and no room for error. They need a favor and Holland has been handing them out for decades. Maybe he's due?
I do remember Sather gifting the Oilers and Lowe a goalie 20 years ago (Steve Valiquent?). My we will see an angel trade come and save the season and the franchise and the cup window.

Sather gifted us Talbot too and we ran him into the ground. Funny he is back with Todd playing great, in our division.
I think the favors Holland gets back are people listening to him rambling about what he did with the red wings. That's it. Holland is square with everyone in their minds, they experienced the pain of listening to him and paid the price.

Are you thinking about Nedved (Take 1)? That was definitely a Sather gift.

I almost spat my drink out my nose seeing Spec thinks he’s been a great writer for 35 years. Someone needs an intervention.

What's the twitter side of this? I've seen the texts - amazing - but Spec is one of only two people to have me blocked so I can't see his drivel. (Damien Cox is the other to block me).

And the brigade of media coming to Spector’s defense and that it is inappropriate to share private screenshots. Seravalli, Rishaug to name a few.
Would like to know if Spector sent the first message…sure seems like it…you’re gonna go at somebody in this day in age don’t expect your conversation to remain private.

Media folks are so sensitive. It's like they're never given feedback or performance reviews. It was a dumb question. Even if he has been a 'great read' for 35 years that doesn't change the question's quality. Of course he hasn't been a great read for 35 years and that has likely led to a lot of insecurity and a repressed belief that he is an imposter. But that's just me playing amateur psychologist.

I mean, it's pretty incredible that he's been paid to write trash and ask bad questions for 35 years. That in itself is an accomplishment to be proud of for Mark Spector.
I will say, after a little more research here, I don't really agree with the Rishaug take that Peel is bound by a cone of silence. Spector appears to have been annoyed with being criticized and decided to send some harassing messages as a result. Given the time, and the fact that it's a road trip, there's a good chance this wasn't fully sober Mark Spector - explains the several typing errors too.
I'm just really curious about the texts between 11:30 and 11:32. There's a block missing!

I just remembered we are now relying on Paul Coffey, with his few years of Junior B coaching experience and a career of being purely offensive, to coach our D to be able to defend and try to make up for our bad goaltending.

.. I was previously commenting that the Oilers could use a RH shot sniper on the opposite side of Draisatl for the PP .. turns out he's in Bako.. just wish he had a couple steps more quickness and agility..
