Daniel Nugent-Bowman @DNBsports
With McDavid’s non-LTIR injury, the Oilers are carrying the bare minimum 18 skaters and two goaltenders. They have no cap space to call up anyone from the minors.
Mark Spector @SportsnetSpec
Oilers announce, 97 will miss Heritage Classic:
Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid suffered an upper body injury during last night’s game versus the Winnipeg Jets.
McDavid is expected to be out of the line-up one to two weeks.
Wow, full on cap hell right now.
Edit: Thread title updated as McJesus has Risen

Do we know what happened? I was out of town this weekend and only saw the barest of highlight packs. Was there and obvious cause of this back (?) injury or was it really just him skating up the ice looking like me tweaking my back because I sneezed.

If you made a list of all the absolute worst things that could happen to the Oilers to start a year, I think just about all have happened.

We could still get a Draisaitl trade! I mean injury.

It's been rough, looks bad in the standings, but could be much, much worse on the injury front.

Kane fell very awkwardly into his left leg and knocked him over 2 games ago. Look his leg out and McDavid's upper body whipped to the left. Then, looks like he got tied up with Morrisey in the Jets game and fell on the left as well and started to grab at his side. Tried another shift and grabbed his left side again and was done. 1-2 weeks, hopefully just a little muscle pull that can quickly heal up.

Let's look on the positive side of the ledger. Yes, the first six games of the season haven't gone well, but we knew this team was flawed and have known for years. If they want to be a serious hockey organization this could be the kick in the pants needed to fix a few problems. Yes, it's harder to this in the season, but it's not impossible to make big moves.
I don't think GM Dithers has it in him, but he might not have the choice. There's a lot of pressure on a bad GM to fix the team when the owner was dreaming of 4 rounds of playoff revenue and ring design.

This is demonstrably false. We could be 0-6-0!
