Oh hey, a 10pm start! I may actually be able to watch the entire game.

This game feels even mustier than the one vs Vegas. Scoring first is key, else LA will go full trap mode, which we seem to have trouble dealing with.

Just win.

I don't think we're quite there yet. A win would ensure Calgary (can get at most 97 points) can't catch us, but we could still (mathematically) be caught by Nashville (max 100pts) and Winnipeg (max 99pts).

Each of those teams has a game against each other, so what does that do to the odds? I guess not much since only one plus Seattle would have to pass us. I think the magic number is 6 points to qualify, since both Winnipeg and Nashville would be ahead of us on regulation wins if they won out and we stopped at 99 or 100 points.

If the Preds drop tonight's game against the Penguins, we're down to 4. If we also win, then we're down to 3. The odds start to look pretty good for us now.

...

Oilers would clinch a playoff spot tomorrow with a Jets loss of any kind.

*If the Jets lose in OT, they and the Preds both can get a max of 98 pts. But they play each other on April 8 and someone will lose at least 1 point. Oilers, at 97 pts, have the tiebreaker on both teams.

I'm pretty sure Iwanyk is wrong, because we'd only need to be passed by the Jets and Kraken to be out of the playoffs, and the Jets can still get to 99 points if they run the table.

On top of that, were they to win all their games and the Oilers to tie them, the Jets would have 48 wins to the Oilers 44 or 45, which means the Jets have the tiebreaker, I think. We currently have more ROW than they do (44-40) but chances are good they'd be ahead of us there too if they ran the table and we had one or no more ROWs.

So by my math, our magic number is still 3. If the Jets lose tomorrow, then it's down to 2.

I stand corrected!

Would be nice to finish off the season with a couple wins against LA.

I really want the Oilers to play well and defend against the Kings. I don't need a wild spasm of goal scoring in the first period again. I can't be convinced that scoring at this rate is sustainable in the playoffs (until I see it, obviously) but I sure think the bad defense will continue. They're running out of opportunities to prove they can play tight against real teams.

While I get what you're saying, I'd also still love to see them put 8 or 9 on the board and get closer to several big milestones for all our top players...

8-1 or 9-1 would definitely be acceptable.
