Holy crap, Darnell. Good saves by Jacky-Boy in OT too.

Nah man - Kr55 for first star. You were on fire in the GDT.
I don't trust going into the playoffs with Campbell as our backup. That was his 7th game in a row below .900. .856 overall during that stretch. He's given up 4 or more 6 times in a row ("only" 3 7 games ago). Gives him a 4.62 AA over his last 7 games. .850% and 4.9GAA over his last 6. Overall, amongst goalies who've played 20 or more games, he's 53rd (of 57) in save % (.882) and 51st in GAA with 3.57. All the guys below him? All on non playoffs teams (CHI, BUF, ANA, SJS, VAN, CBJ). Any decent guys in Bakersfield we could bring up? Are we allowed to sign FAs? With Campbell it's not just the numbers - he just really does not look comfortable back there at all, and he's looking awfully small back there for someone who is 6'3".
Anyway - we got 2 points, so yay! Not thrilled to see the Kings win, but always fun to see the Flames get thrashed.

Fun fact, you can actually sign a free agent after the trade deadline, but he would not be allowed to play in the playoffs. Biggest example I can think of was when Marty Turco signed with the Bruins after the deadline in 2012. Rask was injured for a few weeks and Tim Thomas, as good as he was, was not the kind of goalie that could play a lot of games in a row unless it was playoffs. So Turco was brought in as a stop gap (but if you look at the stats, they probably should have just let Khudobin play more that season instead).

I'm counting it! Because only 1/2 the times he was beat counting sounds so much more amazing :)
Reviews and Ceci saving the day were all part of the plan leading up to the key saves to close out the win.

I checked Oilers schedule.. you are correct .. 8:30 MTN Wednesday.. and 8:00 MTN Saturday vs. Vegas.
NHL couldn't care less about the Oiler fan base.
When is the last time a USA team has played at 8:30 PM on home ice?

That's the Wednesday night national tv broadcast start time fir the second game. All season it's been like this. It is silly because the ESPN / TNT between game show is awful, but it's nothing new.

Updating this because research is best done on my "lunch hour". The normal start time for the second game of the Wednesday TNT doubleheader is 7:30 or 8 pm mountain (why the NHL doesn't pick one and forces their fans to find games is beyond me). This week's second games seems to have a later start because the first game is in Denver at 6 local time. Which is a ridiculous premise on its own.
There have been a couple 8:30 (8:52) starts this year because of the Wednesday national broadcast. St. Louis got one. Minny and Dallas got 2. I think it's safe to say the NHL hates fans, but not one set of fans in particular.

Dear God that was some kind of 3rd period and OT.
Oilers had to have had maybe 10 huge chances in the final frame and how many in half an OT. Shouldnt have gotten to OT, but oh well.
They won in spite of Jack Campbell and some abysmal coverage in their zone. Jack maybe gets 2 more starts imo. He let 7 in. The staff absolutely has to crack down on the coverage, because a garbage team just exposed them.
Ekholm is a godsend. Nurse I thought didnt play very well until the GWG.
Calgary just soiling the sheets against LA on the one night I want a w.

Same problem all year.. I've never seen a team's defensemen both converge on to one side of the ice so many times on a rush.. leaving a free guy wide open going down the middle behind them.. its like they have zero peripheral vision..
Happened on the E65 goal where both % and 25 converge on 2 SJ forwards and the puck is slid out to a wide open E65.. same thing happened with Broberg and Kulak.. except I think Broberg was on the his correct side, where he was supposed to be, and Kulak had come all the way across from the his side to the opposite boards.. SJ player goes behind both of them.. scores.

One day Bouch will shoot when there is a golden opportunity. Still some confidence left to build in his offensive game at the NHL level.

Ekholm is unreal. A great interviewer too.
Campbell still sucks and this team can play sloppy Junior hockey at the bat of an eyelash. “We played some goo….playoff teams lately and I think we treated this game like an exhale” ~ EK14

He's a stud. Any doubt he's our #1? 10P, 9 points, +15 - not a single game in the minuses so far. Let's hope it continues for the length of his deal.
And how good is Karlsson? Even in his "down" years in San Jose where he was sharing the minutes with Burns, he was almost a 55 point Dman (paces of 70, 59, 35, and 57). And then this year? Just wow. I would have no problem seeing the Oilers add him if they could find a way to make it happen. I think his defensive deficiencies are overblown - his zone exits are probably the best of his generation, both skating it out and moving it up with control to his forwards. And the guy has a chance to hit 100 points this year. As a Dman!

Ekholm ties it up twice.
Nurse puts it away.
Ceci with a goal line save.
Dmen winning the most exciting game of the year.

It wasn't pretty but they won. Style points mean nothing to me, just win the game.
Holy man Ekholm is good. I knew he was a good player but I had no idea he was this good.
Bjugstad looks like he fits in seamlessly.
The Oilers need to double their video review guys salary and make sure he never leaves.

All we needed was a hail mary pass to Nurse... between the red line and their blue line... Why was our D-man there??? I mean... he scored... so good. but why was he an option for that play?

3v3 - people are going to be fluid as to where they are on the ice.
It's funny, people always seem surprised about activating defence still. Too many people who still think back to the very structured view of systems that they learned in minor hockey, but it's a little more advanced at the pro level, and more advanced now than it's ever been.
The Oilers in the 1980s were pioneers in this - they tried to turn every situation in to an out-man chance, which involves taking some risk, but creates opportunities too. It's come a long way from there too - especially with great skating defencemen. They are going to jump up regularly, and then race to get back. You're just not going to see NHL teams where the two defencemen just stay back passively and prepare to defend all the time.

I'm not surprised about activating defense. I'm surprised that they had possession in our zone and Nurse was already behind them looking for a pass. They lost possession and we retrieved. It was lucky, not expected.

I assumed he'd just come on the ice on a line change, but I'd have to re-watch to see for sure.
Why we'd be on a line change when the opposition had the puck deep in our zone is beyond me though, but then our decision making in certain situations also boggles my mind, so there's that.

Just re-watched the highlights. Nurse was in our end defending the shark that flubbed the puck into the corner from the opposite side faceoff circle. As soon as the shark let it go, he took off towards center ice with no certainty we'd gain control.

Bizarre game...stopped watching at the first intermission so that I could take somebody to the airport.....
90 minutes pass...and I get back on time to watch the last 15 minutes of the third. Interesting how waived off goals will cause those delays.
Sharks PK along with Reimer performed very well last night...no wonder they're ranked 6th at killing those penalties.
-I don't think 97 and 29 were as sharp as they wanted to be all night
-Crazy to see how depth scoring/Dmen chipping in with goals still resulted in a OT win opposed to a more convincing victory
-Really don't know what it is with Campbell...he played quite well in January till about mid-Feb and has managed to implode yet again. So I guess this is what the pundits meant when referring to him as a career streaky goaltender
