The Oilers need to bring the effort from the drop of the puck. If they come out slow again, there is no one to blame but the players.

Leon sounded sick in his post game presser. I hope they had him in whatever chamber or bath steam or whatever the hell there is and pump him full of whatever drugs exist if he needs it.

The Oilers need Nuge to step up. Year after year, I have heard him after the season talk about the disappoint, wanting to win, tired of losing, blah, blah, blah. Look in the mirror and bring your freaking A game for a change. Other than the 3rd period in the 8-2 blow out, Nuge hasn't done much. He's the longest standing Oiler. He's 29, playoffs are made for guys of his age and experience. SHOW UP!

Kane needs to stay composed. Be a nasty SOB but don't take penalties. I know he took some cheap shots that didn't get called, turn the other cheek. Pound the puck.

Hyman keep doing what he's been doing. Shoot the puck, hit the damn net.

As good as Yamo has been in a lot of areas, they need a 5 on 5 goal. Shoot the damn puck. Shoot it early and often.

JP needs to figure this out. I get it, you aren't confident and it's becoming clear to me that he can be a head case because when it's not going and he's not confident, he can barely skate, let alone handle the puck what so ever. Go see a therapist before the game. Call your mom, dad, old coach, friend, Laine, whoever to make yourself feel better. They need him to get over whatever it is. They need him driving the net, mucking it up and doing whatever he does best. The falling down at the blueline, unable to take a pass JP needs to stay away tonight.

McLeod. Calm down, used your feet, drive the damn net. With your size and speed, you should be able to get to the net on the small Kings defense. Shoot the damn puck!! I get you have some skill but you aren't McD or Leon. Stop trying to thread passes for tap in and shoot the damn puck.

I was stunned that both Leon and McD had played barely over 12 mins to start the 3rd. McD ended up with under 20 mins, Leon barely over 20. Get them out there. The Kings PP is a gong show, throw them on in the last 30 for every PK.

The entire defense core. Keep it simple. Keep the guys to the outside, don't take unnecessary chances with moving the puck. The Kings sit back. clog up the middle waiting for the Oilers to try to do homerun passes and then intercept them. It cost them a few goals. STOP IT. Be patient, move the puck smartly, you have the better forward talent.

Smith, don't do anything stupid. You owe your team a couple from last game. Make the stops you should make.

Shoot the puck! No more show time. Show time doesn't work. When you get into a decent shooting position, take the shot, look for rebounds. Quick isn't unbeatable but he's a pretty damn good goalie when you only put 5 shots on goal a period. Backdoor tap ins look great on the highlights, they don't happen as much in the playoffs. Shoot the puck.

That’s not all that’s congealed! Bah-dum-tss!

Ready for a pant launching experience like no other tonight. Woke up this morning not to my alarm, but to my entire wardrobe of pants chattering back and forth about being selected as the lucky pair to be launched tonight. They feel the Must. They understand the Must. They know the Must required to start. C’mon Oilers. Be like my pants!

Every empty pair of sweatpants on TSN 1260 is demanding McDavid and Draisaitl be reunited for the first period tonight. Generally speaking, when the media says something in unison (especially the sports media) I assume they're wrong. McDrai is a very nice tool to use when the team needs it, but this isn't basketball. The Oilers can't win by shortening the bench to two players.

Moreover why is everyone forgetting how they started overtime last game? The expectation that doing the same thing that failed in overtime will work in the first period tonight is... well, it's dumb.

I'm interested to see if they go 11-7 or 12-6. I would probably go 11-7 just to keep some of the minutes down for the whole d core with Nurse out. I am not entirely sure who I would take out to make that happen.

One thing that some Oilers media guys that are big JP fans is injury. What injury does JP potentially have? He got hurt Feb 17 and missed a month. After he came back, I don't remember seeing him go down or look like he was banged or favoring something up in the season. He missed a couple of games because he got sick but other than that, what injury could he have?

Exactly, you can go to it in the 3rd if you need that push. What strikes me is after game 2, after game 3, there was all this talk of ‘Connor and Leon have figured it out, they’re playing the body, they’re taking the lead of playoff hockey and it amps everyone else up and gets them doing the same’. Look how dominant those games were for the Oil. Last 2 games there’s been next to none of that game from them and here we are, on the brink. They had their pant launching moment, but they sure as heck didn’t capture it.

That said, I can absolutely see them starting that duo. Clown college level media covering a clown college of an organization.

But we’re winning this one boys. LFGOILERS!

Koskinens KHL playoff numbers:

Gp- 77
W-L- 50-24
GAA- 1.64
SV%- .938
SO- 14

So I take it Smith is starting once again.

Yakupov plays pretty good in the KHL....

.....this is the NHL. I would argue that Smith is more consistent than Koskinen. When Koskinen melts down, the team melts down. At least Smith has compete.

I’m finding difficult to go on social media or even talk to people about hockey today. It’s so weird to get this emotionally invested into something we have zero control over.

That being said. It’s a best of 7. The Kings have succeeded with some of their top players missing, so why can’t we overcome adversity?

LFG. I am not even bothering with wearing pants tonight.

If the Oilers go 11-7, I would probably take Foegele out. He has really struggled big time the entire series.

It is crazy that every coach reverts back to that when we know the long term outcomes.

I guess they don’t need to keep that line together all game. Maybe it’s a plan to build a lead, revert back to 97 and 29 on their own lines.

Using the nuclear deterrent early. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I will disagree with a few people in here about the potential lines. The Oilers CAN NOT have a slow start this game. It's killing them. They can not start the game being shelled by the Kings and being down. Balance is out the window at this point. It's win or your done, period. The Oilers scored 3 goals, almost scored 4 goals in the 3rd going nuclear. If going nuclear gives you a chance to get off to a good start and hopefully get a lead, I think you do it. Then hopefully when you get up and force the Kings not to just sit back and line up 3-4 at the blueline, you can worry about balanced lines.

We’ve seen this pony show before. For short stints, this nuclear weapon can work. We've also recently seen, OT last game as most recent example, that they can get absolutely caved in their own zone. For that reason, if you want to go Nuclear, they are better served with JP on their right side as someone who POSITIVELY affects zone time.

JP can't handle the puck at the moment so until he gets that sorted out and I think it's all mental for him, he shouldn't be in the top 6. They need guys who are going and he is not one of them at the moment.

Draisaitl and McDavid started overtime, didn’t touch the puck once.

I agree with Pi, use it as a tool but not as a whole game plan. We’ll see what Woodcroft chooses.

Draisaitl and McDavid started overtime, didn’t touch the puck once.

I agree with Pi, use it as a tool but not as a whole game plan. We’ll see what Woodcroft chooses.

Yup, they sure did in OT but they also almost scored 4 goals in the 3rd period to tie it up as well. Like I said, I would go nuclear to hopefully get off to a good start and maybe get up a few, then go back and roll lines. As soon as the Kings can't sit back and actually have to play forward hockey, they get exposed badly.

Now that I think about it there has not been a single lead change in a game this entire series. Wonder if that was somewhat typical of how the Kings played this year.

I just. Can’t.

Rishaug: McDavid and Draisaitl with Yamamoto

Jack:
Draisaitl-McDavid-Yamamoto
Kane-RNH-Hyman
Archibald-McLeod-Puljujarvi
Foegele-Ryan-Kassian

Kulak-Ceci
Keith-Bouchard
Russell-Barrie

It is crazy that every coach reverts back to that when we know the long term outcomes.

Man, we have good wingers now. I'd have tried Nuge back on a wing with Drai and Hyman probably before the loaded top line.

Drai has struggled bad the last couple games though 5v5. Maybe something is up with him, and he just needs to be able to coast a bit more in wing mode.

Hope it works, obviously.

He sounded pretty sick in his post game presser.

after the last two games, sure, why not. We'll know after 10-20 minutes what this game will be like anyway.

I hope the coaching staff set up a team alarm or meeting reminder to let the entire team know what time the game starts. Maybe even set the alarm for an hour early because they seem to be showing up well over an hour late. Needs to change tonight.

I can see what he's thinking.. all the guys in the top 6 are the only ones driving right now with a hope of scoring... 4th line I think will work out to be McLeods line.
Defense is the worry.. Oilers can't expect to outscore their usual defensive mistakes.

McDAVID! Oh YEAH Baby!!
Tic-Tac-Tao!
Keep on Rockin' in the Free World
P. Chiarelli math.. T. Hall = A. Larsson, Yak= bag o'pucks (OK he got one right...) K. Russell = $4.1 M+NMC, G. Reinhart= M. Barzal + A. Beauvillier, J. Eberle = R. Spooner,

now.... I did say I thought Kane Nuge and Hyman should be considered for a line... I was hoping that could be line 3...

Play McD and Leon every second shift if you have too. Just win the freaking game.

Call me being optimistic but I am hoping that even though they didn't win game 5, the fact that when they try, the Oilers showed they can overwhelm the Kings, will give them some confidence. Game 5 was exactly how the Kings would want it I am sure. Dominated the first came out with the lead. They were able to limit the Oilers chances for 2 periods, frustrated the Oilers into taking bad penalties and were winning 3-1. When called upon, Quick was solid. The Kings were playing their system to a T and it was working, they were winning so I doubt they just abandoned it in the 3rd. Then the Oilers came out, TRIED and damn near won the game.

So if the Oilers try and play how they can, the Kings can't compete. So I hope they come in with confidence knowing if they turn it on from the start of the game, it's pretty unlikely the Kings can stay with them.

It was a mistake to play 29/97 together in the OT. 5 on 5 OT is a completely different animal than 3 on 3 regular season overtime.
It will be a bigger mistake to play 29/97 together in this game.

Not sure what the Forward/Defense number will be... but it will also be a mistake not to use 11 forwards and 7 defense.

Using 11F allows extra shifts for 29 and or 97... not requiring them to be on the same line all of the time.

...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

I haven’t did it once this year. I’m getting in on the score prediction.
