Thatβll do!
I think/hope Woodcroft has figured out how to play the Kings, while McLellan never seems to adapt.

Smith bounced back :)
First period had some freaky moments. Puck inches from the goal line. A post. Team finally got one and didn't look back though. Hopefully this gives them confidence to keep rolling to start game 3.
Broken record, but can't say enough how nice it is to see this team not going into a shell with leads anymore. We barely give LA any chance to get back in this game, which was not the Oilers way for many years up until this February.

That 2nd period was perfect hockey.
A 5v5 goal, PP goal, SH goal, and hitting everything.
Beautiful.

When summing up game 1, I thought if we could get to Quick we'd be in with a chance and hopefully this game has put some doubts in him.
Missed the start of the 2nd as my net and cable went down, but came back to see the 2nd goal go in. Honestly from that moment to the end of the game, I saw the Oilers play good play off hockey. If we can play this way going forward we've got a chance.
The Kings comms team made note of who scored for the Oilers as well, saying that first play off goals, first of the post season for others etc could be more of a problem for the Kings than the size of the defeat. It could be the only they said all night that was of any sense.
Breakfast will taste oh so much sweeter today.. 15 more La Bamba's to go.
Take me home, country road
to the place where I belong
to Alberta, to see the Oilers
take me home, country road

How about that Bouchard kid? Offensive instincts on full display, nonstop. This kid could be a 60 point D next season if he takes over the top PP spot. Played the most of any of our D tonight.

Yep heβs been the best D of the team this playoffs. Canβt imagine where heβd be with Tippett.

Went to bed after the 5-0 goal as it was already 1:30 here. Thought that second period was perhaps the most complete period we've played all season. No passengers at all, everyone hitting everything in sight. PP & PK getting it done.
Archibald was noticeable in a good way. He can't play the games in LA, correct? Weird that that's still a rule when most of the other covid mandates have been dropped.
If we play the rest of our games like we did this one then we have the ability to beat any other team in these playoffs.
15 to go!

He can now play in the US. He received a full medical exemption so he's good to go now.

Iβm guessing some of you were able to post during the game. My phone was not on. I enjoyed every freakinβ moment tonight and did not go near social media. It was just me and the captain sitting in our seats. Captain Morgan.
I thought I saw Oscargasm at the first game when they panned the crowd in the last minute. Shirt was off and I figured the pants were being launched next.
Tomorrow will be a GREAT day. Oh, how 48hrs can make a difference in my life.
Play LaBamba!!!!!

The mustiness of vaporized underpants falling back down to earth may be perfectly timed for game 3. Will mix in nicely with the smog and surround the city.

Actually, they got stuck on the International Space Station's antennae.. one of the astronauts had to pick them off and then sent them hurling back down to earth.. vaporizing on re-entry somewhere in Siberia.. (see below) :)
|
They didnt vaporize. There stuck 20 feet up my damn tree. You going to do something about this. Squirrels are keeling over left and right.

Gonna have to talk to Oscar about that LOL!

Took my oldest son who's 11 to the game, what an amazing game to go to!
They looked a bit tentative in the first but after that put the foot down and didn't stop coming. They got in on the Kings defense early and often. EVERY Oilers brought it. Nuge got 4 hits! And hits were actually what I would call a body check. Went looking and finished his check.
I thought every big boy was good. JP looked way better. I thought Kassian had a hell of a game. He played under 9 mins but he was noticeable every time he was on the ice. Hits matter in the playoffs. Archibald looked good. Hyman is freaking relentless.
Keith was fantastic last night. He was great the night before too. Cool and calm. Nasty in the corners. Sounds defensively. Great with the puck. Laser passes right on the tape. If he didn't like what he saw, turned back started over. I see why they wanted him. He and Bouchard are a great pair. They should have been together to start the season. Bouchards game has taken off since he got put with him. Kulak and Barrie were solid again. Kulak looks like a great pick up. Nurse and Ceci looked good. Nurse looed perfectly fine, had good zip in his step when he needed it.
Overall, it's pretty clear to me that if the Oilers play well, Kings don't have a chance.

One other thing I forgot to mention: Props to the video coach. Obviously he saw a weakness in Quick's game when it game to high shots, as EVERYONE was shooting high on him, and sure enough, it worked like a dream.

He must have also seen weakness in the Kings attack out of their zone and into the neutral. I noticed the Oilers stuffing alot of rushes around our blueline. And they have realized if they keep pressuring them in their own zone, good things happen.

The Oilers should be able to do exactly the same things you described.
On paper, the Oilers have more talent. As a team they are faster than the Kings. They can be more physical than the Kings. Their top 6 players are better than the Kings. I think they are deeper than the Kings. Their defense is better and way more experienced than the Kings. They have better special teams, they score WAY more. The only thing close for the Kings is goaltending where it's probably a tie.
For the Kings to win, the Kings have to play at the absolutely tippy top of their game, Quick has to stand on his head and the Oilers have to not play well. If the Oilers play remotely well, the Oilers should be able to handle the Kings pretty easily in my opinion.

I have NEVER seen a team so apocalyptically devastated that they literally QUIT trying to break the opposing goalie's shutout. What a beatdown.

I was pretty surprised that McLellan didn't pull Quick after the 4th goal. They are not a high scoring team so when it was 4-0, it's extremely unlikely you aren't coming back in that game. The 4th goal was a bit unlucky for Quick so a pull wasn't blaming him, it would have been just a save yourself for next game.
