Love watching them win the games they should be against such weak opponents.

Please lose, Vegas.

This was the complete game I was hoping for in the Detroit game. That was a full 60 minute effort. That game would be easy to replicate. It never felt like they were in desperation mode where they needed a flurry of punches to win a fight late in the 12th round.

Was this the first complete effort game in years?

Man so many chances, could've easily been 12 -1. Kane, Hyman, even Shore, with so many glorious chances.. its a good sign when they generate can such a high volume of Grade A's ..

Smith was OK.

JP makes such a difference out there, both ends of the rink, him with Kane and LD are a LOAD.

Going to be even more fun when Rodney-Nugent-Hopkins gets back in the line up. icon_nod

I don't want Smith to play anymore games but this was a good one to play in for him. A motivated team, they played extremely well. They didn't give up a ton of high end chances from what I thought. A good game for Smith to be in and he played alright. So that's a positive.

I would go the opposite. I would play Koskinen tomorrow, then Smith on Monday and Koskinen on Tuesday. My reasoning is, you have a good chance tat beating the Devils. You don't have a very good chance at beating the Avs on Monday but a good chance to beat Dallas on Tuesday. I don't want to drive the confidence down of Koskinen if you get shelled by the Avs. The Oilers need Koskinen to be good and there is way more of a chance Koskinen can put together more good games than Smith.

They need to win against the Devils and win against the Stars. So play Koskinen against those 2 teams because he can win and his record says that.

Or does playing Koskinen against the better of the two teams boost his confidence? If he gets the Avs game, it is a huge statement.

Still wish we had an upgrade grade on Mikko where he could be a backup and Smith would be a non-story.

In all serious, what games do you think the Oilers have a realistic chance of winning? Devils and Dallas? So it would make sense to play who you deem your starter in the games you think you can win and need to win.

Could Mikko stand on his head against the Avs? Sure, anything is possible. Would you bet on the Oilers winning against the Avs? I sure wouldn't. Plus Dallas is a team you are fighting for potentially for a wild card, so you need to win that game. So does it not make sense to play the goalie you think will probably give you the best chance to win? I would think so.

It sounds like the Oilers agree with me because Koskinen is supposedly playing tomorrow.

2-1 in the next 3. Lose to Dallas with Smith in night after Koskinen plays the first two.

Connor with 9 points in the three games.

The Oilers have the best player in the game and another who is in that conversation. If we're betting against them being able to beat the Colorado Avalanche, then we have a major issue. We need to be competitive with everyone in order to make any noise in the playoffs.

I'm not starting a goalie in a game because I think it's a lost cause anyhow, and I am sure not planning to play Smith because a game is basically a guaranteed L and I don't want to hurt Koskinen's confidence by getting him lit up.

Besides that, any game you start Smith has a pretty good chance of needing to play Koskinen in anyhow, so hard to plan on it being restful, especially against a good team.

So Colorado is the de facto Stanley Cup winner? Concede the playoffs? Concede that we cannot beat, the Avs and hope by chance someone else beats them?

The Oilers need to make sure they make the playoffs first. So they need to win games. They are more likely to win against the Devils and win against Dallas plus winning against Dallas is more important for them to make it in because they are competing with Dallas for a spot then Colorado.

With the Colorado and Dallas games being back to back, both guys have to play. So I am simply playing my best goalie in a game that I have the best chance of winning.

We’ve seen first hand that both guys in fact do not have to play in a back to back situation.

Sure won’t be down in Bakersfield. Did you know to start for the Condors he would have to eat a full avocado; flesh, pit and all? That’s the tradition down there and he’s simply unable to perform said task bc of a life threatening avocado nut allergy.

I get your point but 100% you start your good goalie against the better teams, otherwise why are they the starter? I know it's a valid question here anyways, but if Koskinen is "Good Koski" these days then I'm starting him against the Avs. Playing 3 goals down in the first period with Smith in net doesn't seem like the best way to squeeze a point out of the game.

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Going to be even more fun when Rodney-Nugent-Hopkins gets back in the line up. icon_nod
