The "El Capitan" intro with McDavid and Ovi highlights had a playoff opener vibe to it. SN not risking saving the the big vid packages for a non-existent playoff run.

Also worth noting that that SN/NHL has no issue with featuring Ovi when some fans are ready to hang him in the town square.

SN knows what we all know. Jockeying for draft position? This is our playoffs.

Gotta get one here or the caps will regroup and come out hard in the second.

Opponent tender stoning the Oilers, mine you he's being hit on the Crest most of these looks. The caps will score a goal on a play similar to all the Oilers flying the zone, turning over at the blue line, and somehow OV is behind everyone on a breakaway blue line in. That play was so Oilers.

Draisatl has no answer on zone entries other than to skate into the RW corner, get surrounded, and turn over the puck. PP still crummy, LD still not venturing at all from his piece of ice on the PP, not at all.

Ya they’ve run into a brick wall in Samsonov, so far. Gotta find ways to get some goals... getting Jesse back will insert some much needed Finnish 😏

Drai is fighting it. Crumbling to all that recent Drai v Matthews talk which has now gone back to Matthew v Connor talk.

That one was just bad luck. He took his man, made a play on the puck and Backstrom snuck one in.

I notice you didn't comment on the 4 times in the first that Bouchard either broke up a play with his stick or took his man preventing a scoring chance.

He is having a good game so far.

Bouchard shadows Backstrom all the way to the net. Even if you dont think he played the puck intentionally he def took away a passing lane.

Honest question, what would Bouchard do to not have you consider him dumb as a stump? I think he made the right read and right play it just didnt work out. Outside of taking a penalty I am not sure. A body check isn't an option in that situation. Can't tie him up going stride for stride.

I agree. Through the lens of less than a full season he is doing great.
Without that caveat he has still been passable, at worst, most nights.

Most important of all he is a better player now than he was in Oct.

This is not the Oilers way. He's a defenceman, he's talented, and he rarely destroys people with hits. We must hate him and focus only on specific plays that confirm our bias.

Same guys who have hated Petry, Schultz, Poti, Gilbert, called Klefbom stupid (10 cent brain or some such comment) and even booed Coffey and will tell you that he was a huge liability despite the fact he was a +262 in his seven seasons as an Oiler.

Why is your smallest forward the net presence on the PP?

I could be wrong but I think Kane was the intended net front with Yamo moving between behind the net and back door.
Kane went high leaving Yamo alone in front.

I do agree that if the preset play is to have Yamo be the net front guy it would be an odd choice but whatever the plan was I guess it worked this time.

Nice to see the PP put one in the net. Doesn't happen enough lately.

Nice seeing a guy like Malone taking advantage of an opportunity and contributing. 2 pts tonight. Goal and assist in 4 games. He should have had a goal against Calgary by Markstom made an unbelievable save. A fringe player like him never know when they will get another shot to shine. Good for him.

What. It’s. Not tied? How in heck did that not go in?!? REPLAY DANGIT

Even on replay it was tough to tell. Ceci get a piece of it maybe?

He very well may have.

Regardless, I have to say I’ve enjoyed Ceci’s game this season.

Might be Ceci's best game as an Oiler. Moving well, feeling it. He's much better when he's decisive.

Someone has to take Nurse aside and get him to pick his spots on shots. His shooting bias must be at 90%. It's not like they're Al MacInnis blasts either. Wrist shot, unscreened, from the point with no one in front while we have firm possession and good players on the ice. It's getting to be a real pet peeve of mine.

Couple it with his shying away from playing a physical game and welcome to my views on nurse

I will give him a pass on not taking extra shots. He's getting overplayed. 4th in the league in TOI/game. I remember Chris Pronger talking about how he couldn't waste any energy when he was playing in the high 20s and above. Said that you had to really pick spots for hits and battles because you just can't run around when you're playing that much.

I think you're probably right that Nurse isn't as physical right now, but I blame that on the lack of good defencemen and over-reliance on him.

It's actually similar to Bouchard. At this stage in his career, ideally he's maybe playing 2nd or 3rd pairing minutes with some PP time, but because the defence is weak, he's overplayed too.

You're right he routinely gives away possession for no reason.
