Great game, Bad result.
D let Smith down but letting guys score from 2 feet twice. Oh and by scoring on him.

...still, it was a pretty weak shot by SHORE.
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

Yeah, double deflections and your own players skate are indefensible.

I could defend the goalies like i have on this goal or that goal saying this was tipped or 2 on one etc. But tending is I believe the worst in the league. Only so many excuses can be made. We need a new goalie. Smith and Koski need to go. We need a #1 and Skinner as the back up IMO. Holland will probably go get Korpisalo who is Koski 2.0 or maybe slightly worse.

Now that he’s had his two game warm up you have to start the Battler again vs. Florida
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Precisely. You just can't tromp those old carbureted big blocks to the floor off the start. They will sputter and pop. You need to feather the throttle a bit when you spring the clutch.
Schmiddy can't just turn the battle dial to 11 off the hop. Last night was 6.7. Stay patient Oilfans. This is a process. A part of the process of "Schmiddy Rising". The answers are in that room, just like Dutchie stated.
Step in line you fickle effers.

Smith didn't sign here just to see what would happen in year 1. He was so excited about what we were building he was happy to accept our offer of a 2nd year, and maybe even beyond!

By a lot. It's not even close IMO.
Holland should pay whatever it costs to get someone like Varlamov from the Isles for Koskinen plus whoever. He's the right age, has been great everywhere he has played and has a year left after this one, so not just a rental. Then "retire" Smith.
I would be comfortable going in to the playoffs (assuming we make it) with a Varlamov/Skinner tandem.
I just don't see many other solid options from teams out of the playoff picture.

Half those goals going past Smith last night ar eones you might give a pass to in th eoccasional game.. but goals like that are becoming routine.. demoralizes a team the longer it goes on.. since his return from injury there is nothing in Smith's game that inspires confidence... collapses into his net as a default.

Yeah, in a vacuum, a lot of those goals weren't terrible, but the fact is in 13 starts he has 7 in which he let in 4 or more and finished under .900 (including .429 and .818 in the last 2). It's not the exception at this point. We are going nowhere with those 2.

I don't think Koskinen should be dismissed because Smith has underperformed this year. Koskinen has been pretty good when utilized as a back up with an appropriate amount of playing time.

Koskinen has won games because we can outscore opponents. Not because he has been good.

Eye test man. Of course I could be wrong because I haven't bothered to look at his game log. But I felt he played pretty well for the first half dozen games after Smith got hurt the first time. Then the coach overplayed him and Koskinen went into a steep decline. Everyone in the organization seemed to get made at Koskinen for not being a full time starter with no backup so Tippett put him on the shelf and didn't play him for, ah hell, I'm going to look up games.

To me that shows a strong start and a steep decline around his 11th(!) consecutive game. Then when Smith came back (plus covid) and he played two games in 5 weeks, one in relief. He struggled in limited action. Starting Jan 20, he started to play more, but not all the time, and has been pretty good. I'm not saying he should start or be re-signed, but he should have been used better and hasn't been awful.
I'd let Skinnnnnnner season in Bako, he's there if we need him. Koskinen should be able to perform as a 40% backup behind a healthy starter.

It’s funny, on a hypothetical well-run team where he’s paid back up money and playing behind a starter, Koski could have been a really good second option for back to back games or the odd night off for the number one guy. Even an attractive trade piece. Unfortunately we live in Edmonton.

Imagine a Markstrom / Markstrom / Koskinen / Markstrom / Koskinen rotation.
Kuemper? Fluery? Ulmark? Driedger? Anderson? Reimer? The were options.
