What can you say, I mean, Chicago came in to the game well-rested and the Oilers played last night. They were tired. Exhausted. Even so, a couple of those early posts find the twine and maybe this is a totally different game. It's hard to blame the Oilers for this loss, I mean, they took 37 shots at the opposite net. They just ran in to a hot goalie.
Can't really blame Tippett or Smith either. Smith's a battler, he wants back in the goal and then the coach has to go with his gut. His gut said Schmiddy. The last time Skinner played an NHL game he got blown out too, so it was really a coin toss between them. You just gotta trust experience, and Smith said he wanted this one, so what else could the team have done?

So what you're saying is: This was a moral victory.

How many years into Connor and Leon are we?
Lottery team.
In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

And the Stars up on Nashville.
The thought of Starting Smith on a back to back at any time this year would have been silly. To do it after that long of a layoff due to injury after putting up a stinker like he did last night? Not sure what to call that.

4-0 now. Markstrom has faced 7 shots so far. It’s almost like defense matters too. Shrug.

Tip probably shouldn't coach this team anymore. Pull the trigger Kenny, and by rights you should pack your bags when the regular season is over, because there is zero indication this group will play beyond that.
Curious whether Holland thinks he's assembled a playoff team or not. If he does, then Tippett should be gone. If not, then he should resign.
McDavid 18 points in his last 20, which is about half production. I'd say he's got something going on physically but he played in the Allstar game and the fastest skater competition. He's been way more dominant playing with worse players. PP is colder than a whore's heart but WT F, not a good sign.

I'm becoming convinced more and more each day that McDavid is done here. End of the season, he's requesting a trade.

I thought they'd score 4, and somehow I didnt think they'd allow 4 on 25 or whatever shots. What's not broken or held together with gum and a bit of thread on this team right now? Anything?

Foegele had one of his better games tonight.
Tippett coming up on 1260. This should be the same.

No way. I’m stuck with the Oilers because of 35 years of history with the team and deep geographical roots. I don’t think I’m the smartest hockey fan in the room and that there are no alternatives to what I think about being a hockey fan.

Not defending the decision to play Smith in B2Bs by any means, but if it hadn't been for him that score would have been a whole lot uglier. I wouldn't mind seeing the high danger chances for stat for the Hawks that game. I suspect it would have been stupid high, as we were giving up 10 bell opportunities galore in the 1st & 3rd periods.
Tough to win games when you only score one goal over the past two games. Especially given that we seem to give up a minimum or 2-3 goals against each & every game. Do we even have a shutout this year? I can't remember one.

For whatever reason this team seems to gauge early its goaltending and sag because 'down early, loss' is a the narrative that's obviously crept in to their mindset as the prophecy continues to self fulfill.
Starts with the goaltenders sometimes its grade a chances given up in the defensive zone, but it starts there. The rest of the team sees that once again they're in a hole.
The team isn't as bad as their record. Aside from personnel needs that have been identified ad nauseum, they need to try a different voice in the room and behind the bench. When the Hart trophy guys are frankly diminishing and visibly sagging whether they want to or not, I think you do what you can to salvage the season....to me looking at McDavid, that's like beacons and sirens going off. I think the team benefits from a change at HC and possible an assistant, the goaltending coach. The benefits are systemic tweaks and quite frankly a wake up call from a voice or voices that sound different, simple as that.

Just want to remind everyone that you can never blame a goalie for losing a b2b game. It's a lot to ask of a goalie to play both of a b2b.

A regular goalie maybe. This is the legendary Mike Smith. An ageless wonder only behind Tom Brady.

On a serious note. I don't really blame Smith for those first 2 goals. Debrincat wide open shot after a cross ice pass that we just cluelessly allow to happen. Lots of net to shoot at since Smith has to come all the way across. That's a good goal. Next one is a typical rush goal, guy makes a good shot after Smith has to move. That goal happens all the time. We suck defensively. Don't play until we're down, it's the Oilers way. Then we can celebrate how everyone gets their head out of their butt after being down 0-2 and the other team starts to relax a bit. Been watching this on repeat for over a decade.

"We gotta get Smitty going... He wants to be a big part of the team going forward"
One team looked like an NHL team out there. It wasn't the OIL. Clean, quick breakouts. Short passes to a teammate supporting the puck. Zero 2-zone hail-mary passes to no one in particular.
High from the nose-bleed section you could see the ease of entering the OZONE almost every time. Our D certainly like to back into the goalie. No resistance at the blue line. No back checking forwards... On the OIL PK the Hawks made countless cross passes to open attackers seemingly for fun.
TIPPETT's message (if there is one) hasn't been getting through for a long time now. Even with HOLLAND failing to solve the goaltending problem (remember "goaltending is 100% of the problem if you don't have it".) this team should be better.
'Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a change... TIPP's post game summary has been on repeat for too long.
'
...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

Luckily I taped this.. only wasted 25 minutes.. as soon as it hit 3-1 it was FF by 5 min skip intervals..
Need a head on a plate.. start with Nicholson.. no particular reason.. just because.
I don't think you bring in Woody.. if you do, then decide on someone else at the end of the season, then he isn't going back to Bako.. so you lose 2 coaches.. I'd let Gully take it over.. I want to turf Playfair but don't want to bring up Manson for same reasons..
Golatending and defence still useless.. but then again scoring 1 goal isn't going to win any NHL games.
