LOL

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

I hope the team walks by the Isle’s dressing room on the way out and notice how hard the other team had to work in a win.

So has Babcock been spotted in Edmonton yet?

Babcock would beat the lazy out of this group, but I’m still a hard no on that prick.

Well, pretty easy to tell which team wanted this more in that 3rd.

OT was a clear demonstration of why you manage LD's minutes in regulation. Honestly, with LD obviously gassed the coach may have recognized and had a less skilled but still more effective option.

Can't complain about goaltending with rare glimpses of sustained effort in front of him. This team has maybe had 2 games that you might label as complete efforts all year.

Not sure where they go from here, it's another skid.

You would think that a coach might recognize that there may be some correlation between a team that boasts McDavid and Draisaitl getting outshot 16-2 in the 3rd period and OT after playing those two 28 and 24+ minutes the day before. But I'm not holding my breath on that one.

18/19: 232 GF / 274 GA (-42)
19/20 (82 game pace): 257 GF / 254 GA (+3) in 64 games
2021 (82 game pace):269 GF / 235 GA (+34) after 38 games

Maybe we would have won if we played NUrse 35 minutes instead of just 30.

I mean, heck, he played 60 min in the 3OT game in the playoffs, including a shift of nearly 5 min. Why not just leave him out there for a full game and see what happens.

When Shore finishes with higher ice time than Puljujarvi and Hyman you deserve to lose the game.

Shore was a like playing LD and Yamo a man short.. brutal choice.

I feel so bad for David, guy is working his ass off every shift and he's playing with plugs all around him, no skill, no finish.. this team is so far away.

Shore had the 5th most minutes among forwards (4th most 5x5, more than Hyman & Puljujarvi). It's just not a recipe for success. Tippett is just completely out of ideas. Ryan Mcleod has had a good couple of games and he's playing 9 minutes a night. Played the fewest 5x5 minutes of anyone against the Islanders.

Seems like Tippett's only strategy is to play McDavid and Drai 25 minutes a night and Nurse 30min and then bump Shore up the lineup because he's a good soldier, or whatever.

I get that the lack of PP is frustrating, but the Oilers are now -10 in 5x5 goal differential. That's awful.

Yeah that makes no sense.. Shore playing 2nd line minutes is just dumb, you're playing LD's line a man short for the entire game. "Balancing the lines" is a failed plan. You need your most talented players to have talent to play with otherwise you are negating their talent. Of all the guys to replace RNH.. one of the last choices should have been D. Shore.. guy can barely keep up.

Like you said, McLeod would have been effective, but I'd even add in Foogler as an option.

Actually;

Mcleod McDavid JP

Hyman LD Yamo

Would have been preferred.. then just play the hell out of those 2 lines. Make the bottom 6 dump and chase all night.

Yeah I wouldn't mind Shore playing 4th line center and McLeod up on either of the top 2 lines. I'd like to see McLeod with McDavid for the hellery of it.

As far as playing the hell out of guys, I'd like a 20-21 minute ceiling on Leon Draisaitl. Especially when there are no PP minutes to speak of. The returns diminish significantly late in the 3rd and in OT if his tank is empty. We've seen it time and time again.

I’d get on the “fire Tippett” train but as Pi said in the other thread it won’t fix things. Team needs a miracle trade to offload salary and bring in talent. Holland doesn’t have the skill to fleece somebody so that means mortgaging the future.

The counter point is that they're going to give Holland a coaching change at some point as a free pass. If we get that over with now, then it's one less bullet left in his gun. The problem is that the Oilers aren't going to do wholesale changes at season's end - it's not in the franchise's DNA to actually address problems - so get the obvious first move out of the way.

It's likely to be Babcock, because all of them (Holland, Lowe, Nicholson) have lots of history with him, they probably think an old school guy like that needs a second chance and got a raw deal in Toronto, and they almost always defer to big name that happens to be available. They'll rightly get roasted for doing it but they'll think it's making the tough choices and all the Edmonton sports guys who currently are working double time defending Holland and Tippett will jump on board immediately. They'll talk up how much he's a "proven winner" and he'll "hold the players accountable."

That feels inevitable, so why wait for summer to hire him?

Because if they wait till summer they don’t have to fire Tippett as his contract expires at the end of this season.

I’d rather see a return of MacT.

Bring in Maurice. Which I can actually see as helping. The roster is weak. So is Vancouver’s, but they have significantly improved following a coaching change. Tippett was never going to be the answer. He’s not a good fit for the modern day game.

I see the Canucks as having a much deeper roster than the Oil, and we're seeing it now.

I thought Van was going to have a good season prior to the start, was shocked when they started the way they did... and now we see what they are capable of.

The Oil look like gaaaaarrrrbbbaggeeee right now.

No PPs again. That makes it one PP in 11 periods, and that was for using your hand on a face-off. Opponents sure playing the Oilers clean. No in-play infractions in 225+ minutes. Thats some serious discipline across 4 teams and 14 days.

To be fair, they haven’t worked hard enough to draw penalties.

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

That's the biggest issue. If you're just going for a leisurely skate, you're not playing hard enough to get them.

What? This was on in the afternoon?

Guess I didn't have to watch because I already predicted the exact score anyways.

When Nurse/Smith/Pulju are back we will be good again.

Funny how they won with Tippett gone and the lineup a mess. Just sayin'.

I agree. Tippett is the real problem here.
The Oilers are a good team. They have talent and are built for offense.
He is just brutal. Gulutzan or Woodcroft taking over would be so much better IMO.
