You called it. We own these suckers.

Would be wonderful if we could follow it up with another 2+ period effort.

Perlini looked way more effective, taking shots, more consistent hustle, hey I even saw him rub a guy out! He seems like a guy that gets comfortable once he thinks he's made the NHL rotation very forgetful about how tenuous his spot is. Hope this version sticks a round for a few games.

Bison looking like a King again.. taking shots.. hustle, hanging on to the puck more, carrying it, he was getting the nick name "hot potato" for his tendency to pass it right back to McD as soon as the puck hit his stick, a positive trend. He could have had 5 goals tonight.

Yamo still snake bit.. no shots on net again. They say his last shot was 7 games ago, but it was a tipped goal.. not sure if it even qualifies as a "shot", his streak might be even longer than 7.. wow!

Foegel looks good up on the top 6 he can force opposition D-men to engage him to try and break the cycle, opens up 97 and 13 to move around and get open, does a bit what Hyman does.. but with less finish.

Skinner robbed of a shutout by his teammates.. both goals he made the initials stop(s) and the rebound was put in by an uncovered CBJ forward.. deserved the SO on home ice, in his home town.

RNH with some deft puck steals.. witchery.

This win was a happy surprise.

Kassian had a pretty good game. Some shots and some hits.

Ceci was -2, but this is a case where +/- is misleading. His partner, who shall remain nameless, was the lesser of the pairing, and was only -1.

Skinner did a great job. Lots of shots to handle, and he stayed strong until the boys in front of him built up a nice cushion. Beats the daylights out of those games where the Oilers fall behind early and spend the rest of the game struggling to catch up.

Big, much needed win for the Oilers. I didn't get to watch the first 10 mins but it sounds like they played extremely tight and were pressing which leads to mistakes when you press but I guess when you have lost 6 in a row and nothing is going right, I could see that. BUT they got a few big saves and a break which they haven't been getting, got a goal, settled down and took it to the Jackets.

I thought Skinner played well. He came up with some big saves but most importantly, big saves at key times.

JP was very good.
McD seemed to have a little more juice than he's had in a long time.
I am digging Foegele in the top 6. The guy just works. got speed, a little size. Throws the odd hit, gets shots. I'd give him a longer look there. He got the empty netter which maybe lets him relax a little as he was snake bitten.

I thought thought the Ryan line was excellent. A couple of guys who needed goals, scored. I thought Kassian had a good game.

Perlini was excellent. He looked like a guy who left the NHL to play in Europe, came back this year, maybe subconsciously took it for granted a little, got sent down to the AHL which maybe was a wake up call that this could be it, got an opportunity thanks to covid and made good at least for 1 game. Goal, assist, 7 shots, 2 hits in just over 10 min. That's exactly how a bottom 6 guy should play and I have been harping on other guys to do. You can't going to get a ton of mins, so when you do, you have to play like your life depended on it and do something. He bought himself another game.

I thought the Turris line was meh. Didn't accomplish much. Turris, Benson need to take what Perlini did and do the same. You aren't going to get a ton of minutes so when you do get on, make it count.

The Leon line didn't do much again. Leon was just OK. Nuge was just OK. Yamo invisible again. The line was on for both goals. Yamo playing a big role in the second goal against.

Yamo needs to take a LONG look in the mirror and look what Perlini did. No shots in 7 games and he got 15 mins of ice time. That's pathetic. Perlini proved that you do not need to be with the current league leader in points, scoring champ and MVP to generate any kind of offensive chance. I get it's 1 game but I would give Perlini a look on Leon's line. For 5 reasons.

First, enough is enough with Yamo. Playing in the Oilers top 6 with one of the best players in the world is not a right, its a privilege. He needs a wake up call. He's been on that line for 2 seasons now doing nothing. A demotion is in order, maybe a seat in the pressbox. If they want to be a good team, you can't have guys doing nothing in the line up game after game. There has to be a consequence.
Second. When you are in the top 6 of a team, especially when you are playing with a guy as good as Leon, you have to produce. He's not even getting shots on goal.

Third. Leon could use a shooter on that line. Nuge is not a natural shooter, Yamo doesn't have a shot. When you have maybe the best passer in the NHL on your team, he needs someone who can shoot.

Fourth. Putting someone who's hungry on a line can bring energy to other guys. Yamo is not hungry what so ever. Time for a change.

People (read Jim Matheson) are too focused on Yamamoto. He's not close to the biggest problem the team has, and obsessing over his shots is silly. He still has more shots on the year than Kassian.

Not to say he doesn't need to be better - he does - but the guy is dirt cheap and he's been doing well on the forecheck, puck retrieval and penalty kill. He's an easy target for Edmonton media guys who are doing backflips trying to avoid criticizing roster construction, coaching or management.

Nuge in Covid protocol. Yikes.

Gotta think the NHL is gonna pause this.

That's one of two options they have to be considering. An extended Christmas break from the 19th to 29th would be enough to save my fantasy teams. This plan has the downside of the next inevitable outbreak having the same impact. Fortunately the Olympic window is likely wide open for replacement games.

The other option is probably unthinkable, but would actually work.

Those are the two options I see. The middle ground everyone is following now clearly isn't working.

The problem with the fully open stategy is that if people are sick, they can't play. Given the number of cases of heart damage for athletes who push through COVID, it's just not a good idea to dress them if they're sick. I mean, teams shut down players over the flu too normally.

The spread here is so fast, I think it's really bad news for the league - all the sports leagues for that matter. I think we're going to get shut down again for at least a couple weeks after Christmas. SIGH.

I'd keep going. I think there is 1 player who isn't vaccinated. So far it sounds like every player that has gotten covid lately, I haven't heard of any player being really sick since being vaccinated. Most guys don't even know they have it. The point of the vaccine is so people don't get really sick and clog up the hospitals. So the vaccine is doing its job. You can't keep shutting things down forever. Covid is here to stay and there will probably be more variants to come just like the flu.

I'm somewhere in the middle - I agree he's not the biggest problem on the team, and I do like a lot of what he brings. But you can't be going into that kind of a black hole playing with Draistaitl for that long.

Foegele looked good with McDavid. Is there some way to rearrange the lines that would give a boost to the 3rd line without hurting the top 2 too much? Something like

Foegele - McDavid - JP
Hyman - Draisaitl - Yamo
RNH- McLeod - Kassian

Here's something crazy I haven't seen elsewhere - what about converting Barrie to a winger?

When I mention it's time for a change when it comes to Yamo, I am not blaming him for all the woes of the team but anytime someone complains about the Oilers lack of depth scoring, he's part of the players who are supposed to provide depth scoring.

Turning pucks over is great, drawing penalties is nice. The fact he's alright on the PK is nice because at least he's providing something but if he was a UFA signing and when signed management said he was signed to play in the top 6 and provide depth scoring, some segment of the fans would be all over management right now saying it's another bust signing. Part of his job is to provide offense and he's not even creating chances so he's not doing his job. If he was creating chances, hitting posts and crossbars and just getting some bad luck, then you could excuse it. He's not. ZERO shots in 7 games for a guy who's supposed to score, is not good enough. Turning over the occasional puck does not justify continually playing him in the top 6. Time to try someone else for a bit.
