It’s nice having won the first game and knowing we get to mail this one in.

Unless this is a... must win?

You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.

Oilers game day? That means we get Musty Math!

Jets (opponent) + Eight (game number) * Road (Home/Away) + Maybe-pending OOT (Team in playoff spot with win?) * Hallebuyck (Vezina level goalie) - 2 (Game in series) + Wayne’s Bday (Significance of day?) = MUST WIN

It’s cold AF in Sask today... need the winds of Must to blow west to bring the boys home with a Jet Sweep!

Ennis put on waivers. Wonder if that means Bouchard is finally getting some game time.

Jack Michaels saying the lines are:
Nuge - McD - JP
Kahun - Leon - Yamo
Neal - Turris - Kassian
Archie - Khaira - P.Russell

Nurse - bear
K. Russell - Barrie
Jones - Larsson

That 4th line sucks. Having P. Russel AND Khaira means you are getting ZERO chance of offense. Haas can't get back fast enough.

I am OK to get Jones back in there but I am a little surprised they took out Koekkoek to do it. I thought he's been decent most games.

Don't understand this lineup.

Larsson and Jones will get caved by WPG, Larsson too slow, Jones too weak

P Russell Kharira will be a major weak link against a strong forechecking team like WPG, all we can hope for is they aren't a minus with the 6 minutes of ice time they'll get.

Yeah I'm hoping Haaaaas gets his aaaaaass back in the lineup sooner than later..

......teams aren’t making the playoffs splitting series. You need to earn a series win.

You already had 1 ineffective Russell in your lineup, now you have 2 ineffective Russell’s in your lineup.

You (as in Tippett) say you need better puck movement from the back end, so you take out your best all around dman so far this year to put Jones back in, leaving Larson, Kowboy and Barrie in? You want better puck movers, sure put Jones in but you take out someone who isn’t a puck mover. It’s deck chairs on the titanic with this team.

Unfortunate if Bouchard isn't available. I wonder what the lineup looks like if he was healthy...

I do think they have to get Jones back in there. He had a tough start to the year, but he was generally pretty good last year. He's young and you're going to want him playing.

Koekkoek definitely had his roughest games the last couple out, although being saddled with a challenged Larsson is possibly a contributing factor. I don't have a huge issue with him coming out.

I will say, with this 4th line, I expect that we're going to get a game where they'll play really limited minutes and that by the third, unless we're way out front, it'll be three lines rolling.

I am excited to see Patrick Russell get one game closer to the record for longest streak to start his career with the Oilers without scoring a goal. I do think Tippett's love for the player is baffling. He works really hard...and gets nothing done. I don't think there's a value in that kind of player.

While he's much maligned here for what he could bring and teases sometimes, I prefer Khaira to Russell greatly because you know there's a possibility at least that he chips in.

My concern with it is simple. Tippett commented on wanting better puck moving from the back end, which his fix was taking out a guy who isn’t a terrible puck moving dman leaving in the heels we’ve danced with the last 4 years who have consistently shown aren’t capable of making a clean outlet pass.

I agree with getting Jones in. Would have liked Bouch, but the back thing.

A team might make the playoffs in the Scotiabank iAdvisor North splitting against the good clubs as long as they beat up on Ottawa enough. The 7 team division is something of an advantage this year. That being said, ideally the Oilers win the split tonight with an OTL.

I do think 28-23-5 is enough to make the playoffs this year... in the Scotiabank Please Don't Foreclose on me North.

The top 3 lines I line. No issues there. The 4th line, I don't like 2 of the 3 players on it. I know P.Russell will come out and fly around which I can appreciate but he will beat the puck square. Khaira, he's sat for 5 straight games. He lost his job to a PTO guy and probably only got the start because Haas wasn't available. I have to think this is it for him. If he can't seize a spot, I think it's over. I really have my doubts for them both but I hope I am proved wrong.

The defense. I get wanting Jones in there. If he's the future, you can't have him continuously sitting. It's been 4 games in a row already. I don't agree with sitting Koekkoek but at the same time, I don't think Russell has deserved a seat. He's been fine. The guy that deserves a seat is Larsson and Jones doesn't shoot the same way. Tippett did mention Bouchard had a back thing, maybe that is Larssons stay of execution. He needs to pick it up real soon because young guys are breathing down his neck and he's faultering big time.

Mustiness needs a scale like the Richter scale or the Safir-Simpson scale to describe the intensity, for those of us too stupid to follow the complex math!

Tippetts reason for having Patrick Russell in the lineup? He’s been hard down there.

I have since renamed him Dick Pills.

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

He’s been excellent on the taxi squad... okay, so he’s had good practices against your porous Defence? You want him to play, send him to Bakersfield. 2 ineffective Russell’s does not equal 1 effective Russell. No amount of Musty Math can make that equation work.

Is shore hurt? Is koekkoek hurt?

As much as I voice my disdain for Chiasson... how is he not in over Patrick Russell?

I think Shore is because he hasn't been very good the last few games. He played just about 7.5 mins the last 2 games. I don't get the justification of P. Russell. I know the guy tries hard but you aren't getting anything from him offensively. Why not Nygard for the speed and forechecking.

Khaira I have no use for and am counting the days until Haas is back. Maybe the thinking is the PK that is 22nd right now. Well the Jets lone PP goal was off a sprawling Russel and in. The leafs the night before got a goal off a leafs skate and in. Weber put a puck off of Koskinen's ass after Shore bulled him over. Petry scored a PP goal by the puck getting shot off Koskinens chest, Petry swatted the puck with his hand, went through Koskinen's legs and he got the puck on the other side and shot it in. That's 4 fluke goals that you probably couldn't duplicate again if you tried.

Jason Gregor @JasonGregor
Bouchard has back issue and isn't available said Tippett.

Hope it's nothing serious.

Tippett commenting on how hard P.Russell has been practicing and how hungry he is on the taxi squad. I am not a fan of him being in the line up but at the same time if you want your taxi boys bringing and pushing, you have to give them a carrot once in a while I guess. Fingers crossed I am pleasantly surprised with Russell.

I want to cheer for Russell, but we all know he will never score until he finds a way to play AGAINST the Oilers, not for them.

That's a given. In an Oilers uniform he can get multiple wide open nets and miss. Once he's no longer an Oiler, I fully expect an end to end dangle, top corner where he out races both McD and Nurse.

I bet he is a scoring machine in practice, which earned him this start :)

Just like the powerplay, against a porous defence.

I was really UP for this game and now I’m super frustrated with the lineup decisions.

I guess the only thinking is Ennis played 6:12 that's with no PP or PK. Shore got a little time on the PK otherwise his time on ice wasn't much different. They barely played in the second and 3rd period. So does it matter much if the goal is to send those guys out a few shifts a period to give guys a breather? As long as they aren't a cluster F in their own zone, maybe it will be fine.

JJ will get his on the PK, but here is hoping for some discipline play.

Larsson? Let's hope for 12 minutes of ice tonight.

P.Russell? Shades of Tobey Petersen, without the offence. Will Acton'esque.

Bouchard? Looks 40 and his back is aging the same? I kid. I kid. Get better soon. I want to see what he can do.

Anyways, I called a sweep over the Jets and a .500 record. Top 6 will get us 2 points in regulation. Jesse is going to score tonight and everyone on the top two lines will record a point. McDavid with 3 points by himself. Book it. A real Musty.

I have a feeling the Oilers PP has a big night tonight, I hope I am right.

Sure sounds like Bouchard might have gotten in the line up if he didn't get whatever tweak. Tippett mentioned about players on the taxi squad being hungry to get in. I wonder if the plan was to get him in for Larsson so maybe we will see a motivated Larsson to pick it up.

I wonder if taking Barrie off the PP last game was a shot across the bow he may have needed to get going. He was brought in to be the PP QB the Oilers have been dying for, for years. If your spot gets taken away, you'd think that would wake him up a little.
