2 games for kick, +3 games repeat offender just got out of jail, +2 because Oilers.
I was expecting five games myself.

Totally agree.
Especially the "because Oilers" premium.
Without fail Oilers get the league max precedent, plus a few extra that no one had predicted.
Should've been 5 max.

Sigh. While it's still better than I expected it's still a kick in the nuts to every Oilers player and every Oilers fan. A little over twenty plus games left in the season and a dog fight till the very end. If the Oilers don't make post season I put the blame on Kassians shoulders. His frequent terrible on ice antics are a ridiculous distraction to a team trying to find a winning groove. True we can look back on the season in hindsight and find many non Kassian mistakes that spelled our demise but his immaturity and lack.of common sense cost us and cost us a lot more than once. Slapshot is truly one of the greatest sporting comedies of all time....but to see the antics of that movie filmed in the 70's play out in real life in 2020 and in the NHL is dispicable and damn right foolish.

Hope this doesn't drive him to drinking. Ridiculous penalty for a phantom kick. You'd think he sliced the guy wide open. Nice way to reward the team for the big contract there Kass. If it wasn't for bad luck this team would have no luck at all as the song goes. Parros is off of my Christmas card list. There is no message that needs to be sent that strongly here. Everybody knows kicking is off limits.

Turns out the guy in the biggest danger there was Archibald. As Kassian is loading up his kick, the blade of his skate hits the bottom of Archibald's helmet and Archibald pulls his head away quickly. If it went under the helmet...might have been a bit of a different outcome.
Sigh...
If Kassian wasn't a repeat offender, he probably gets 3 or 4, closer to Skinner's.

Can the Oilers use Kassian's cap hit savings towards acquiring a player before the deadline while he is suspended? or is this different than LTIR, sending players to the minors, etc...

No, he counts towards the roster and his cap hit remains throughout.

You’re welcome!
It hurts the team quite a bit, especially given our lack of NHL forward depth and the injuries were experiencing.

I fully believe in "The Code" of hockey. I was taught it young and saw coaches punish for breaking it at every level I played.
One of those things were the levels of offense. Snowing a goalie, shooting after the whistle, a late hit, etc were on the low end. Butt ending, slough footing, spearing, etc were higher.
At the very top was anything to do with using your skate.
I fully agree with a 7 game suspension and think it is exactly right for what Kassian did and who he is. The fact that in the last two weeks much was made of the code and paying for your offenses in kind you cant have it both ways.
I believe 2 was the shortest ever given for a skate based suspension, to a player (Skinner) with zero history.
For anyone that thinks there was an Oilers premium needs to consider that perhaps it was Kassian + code premium. I think he is lucky is wasnt longer given his history of both suspensions and "code enforcement)

One thing Kassian has been good at lately is getting tons of media attention, Suspension, contract, suspension, Too bad he can't stick to just playing hockey because he is a pretty effective player when he does just that. I read that Pronger had a 7 game suspension for the same thing back in the day so maybe hockey IQ ( or lack there of ) doesn't factor into it after all. Hope the team can maintain a decent level of play without all the missing players. Kassian is probably the guy they'll miss the least for what he has brought of late.

The outrage online about Kassian "only" getting 7 games is weird. I guess people can feel super superior because they can show how outraged they can be over a guy pushing his skate into a chest protector with 15 lbs of force as if it was attempted murder or something?
Kassian McSorely should be in jail right now IMO.
I don't recall this outrage when Skinner was trying to cut a guys leg off at the knee with a wild kick.

Might be a factor of the player too because I don't recall people caring that much about Skinner's temper tantrum kick to a knee. Kassian is a monster that needs to be banned from the league

Except Kassian's stick on Gagner was visibly malicious and he intended to do it. While his kick appeared to be more reflex than malice, trying to get away from being held down. My opinion.
In both cases he deserved to be suspended. A handful for the kick, but the stick should have been 20+.
The fact Kassian subsequently taunted Gagner after only reinforced it.

Malicious with intent? I was pretty pissed about that play, but felt it was dumb carelessness with his stick. He missed him with the check and I’m sure it bothered him, but I don’t think he intended to crumble the guys jaw because of it. It was a boneheaded reaction with a horrible result.
The taunting is just the game inside the game, but you already knew that.

No one seems to be able to fill the void he's leaving of terrible giveaways just inside our blue line :(
Who will step up and fill that hole that was opened when we lost Looch until Kassian is back? :)

Unfortunately, you need to actually be able to touch the puck in your own end 5v5 to be able to make a lame giveaway just inside our blueline. Guys that play like chickens with their heads cut off in their own end at even strength can't quite get over the hump.

So by my calculations Kassian is eligible to play at the end of this week at home against the Jets on the late game on HNIC. I'm guessing Kassian will at least get a sniff on the McDavid line, but expect Tippett will bump him down the lineup if he falters,

I’d make him earn it after today’s trades. He hurt the team with suspension number 2.
You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you can get a lottery pick.
