I don’t like the thirds.
Please do not feed the bears. Feeding the bears creates a dependent population unable to survive on their own. Bears.

The designer heard "third jersey" and put exactly a third the design work in to it.

Finally, a goal, and of course it's the man with the hands....

They don’t look good in TV, but undefeated in them 😁.

That first Oiler PP illustrates why Chiasson had such a jump in points last year. Anybody with McD, Drai, and Nuge will score on that PP. Neal will be way over 20 goals.
I fear that the $2+ million each of the next years that Chiasson makes is going to look bad real quick if he isn't getting the choice assignment.

Maybe it’s the rhum, but I thought Chaisson looked good tonight.

2nd line looked like good 2nd line with Nuge, Neal and Chaisson. Chaisson was doing his part just fine I thought as well. A 2nd line that can do stuff 5v5 is still an upgrade on last year. Nuge never had any consistent help when he was on the 2nd line alone.
Bottom 6 guys are starting to look cursed. Lots of good chances, flubbing every time.

There's a little while were you pass that up as just luck. At some point though, they need to start scoring, or that's really what they are.
I remember Reddox getting the MacT bump to play with Hemsky and Horcoff when he first came up to Edmonton...he seemed to find good spots on the ice, and those other two found him with the puck, but the guy had no hands at all. The first couple times you were wondering how he didn't score there...then after a while you didn't even get that excited. He ended his NHL career with 6 goals in 100 games.

The guy that I'm ready to pass along now is Jujhar. Dude just does nothing out there.
I had high hopes for him but he just continually underwhelms. Time to move on from him and to make room for Benson or Marody.

Not minding P. Russell either.

With Neal in place. Is secondary scoring possibly, partially fixed?
2015/2016 - This Kool-Aid tastes like McDavid flavoured Drain-O.
2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

Enh, they could use scoring from other sources than just Neal unless he can sustain the pace he's currently on which of course is completely insane.
On a related note: I'm still not a fan of the third jersey colors.

I'm really happy to see Bear getting those goals. Once Bouchard fully develops, the Oil will really have some bonafide firepower from their blueline for the first time in a VERY long time...

Looks like Nurse is gonna earn himself a big raise too. Wonder if we can afford him.

If Nurse continues this trend and Bear follows suit, with Bouchard and Broberg developing we can cool our jets on acquiring Hall. I’d rather have 3 stacked D pairings than two stacked lines.

Can either play defence against top players? Can they play the minutes needed to be top guys?
Those are the kinds of questions I have. Otherwise you've just got Schultz/Poti/Petry, who can be more problem than they are worth.
I still think Nurse will be the top guy for many years going forward.

The top pairings could look like this if defense is a concern for the kids:
Klefbom-Bear
Nurse-Bouchard
Those have the potential to be the backbone pairings for this team for a long time to come...

Where does Broberg fit?
There may come a time where the Oilers are going to have to make Chicago-style decisions. Do you stick with an aging Seabrook and Keith, or do you make room for a younger stud?
Although I think a Left side with all three of Klefbom, Nurse and Broberg would be fun to see for a while...I won't miss Russell...
