Quote: | Brian Wiseman enters his eighth season as an assistant coach for the University of Michigan ice hockey team in 2019-20; being named to the position in the summer of 2011. His duties include evaluating and recruiting future players, developing on-ice practice plans and implementing in-game strategies.
Wiseman was a standout center for the Wolverines from 1990-91 to 1993-94. Wiseman returned to Michigan in June 2011 after spending the 2010-11 season as an assistant coach for the American Hockey League's Houston Aeros, a Minnesota Wild affiliate. He also served as an assistant coach at Princeton University in 2003-04 under head coach Leonard Quesnelle. Wiseman was a video coach for the Dallas Stars in 2002-03 with head coach Dave Tippett and served as the Michigan ice hockey team's administrative assistant in 2000-01 and '01-02.
The Wiseman File
» Helped lead Michigan to a 22-15-3 record and an NCAA Frozen Four Berth during his first season behind the bench in 2017-18. The Wolverines advanced to a record 25th Frozen Four on the heels of an NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, where they defeated Northeastern and Boston University.
» In 2015-16, Wiseman coached Michigan's nation-leading power play unit, as the Wolverines finished the season 48/150 (32.0%) on the man advantage
» In 2010-11 was an assistant coach for the American Hockey League's Houston Aeros, a Minnesota Wild affiliate. Wiseman helped the Aeros reach the Calder Cup final after a second-place division finish.
» Wiseman also served as an assistant coach at Princeton University in 2003-04 under head coach Leonard Quesnelle. Wiseman was a video coach for the Dallas Stars in 2002-03 with head coach Dave Tippett and served as the Michigan ice hockey team's administrative assistant in 2000-01 and '01-02.
» In 166 career games for the Maize and Blue, Wiseman racked up 348 points, which rank third all-time for the program. His 164 assists are second best in U-M annals. A member of the U-M Deker Blue Line Club Hall of Fame, he is one of just seven U-M players to notch 50 assists in one season (1993-94).
» Was a member of U-M's first CCHA regular-season championship team (1991-92) and its first CCHA Tournament winner (1994), and won a second CCHA regular-season crown in 1993-94. His four years at Michigan started the school's streak of 21 consecutive NCAA Tournament berths, a national record. His teams reached the 1992 and 1993 Frozen Four.
» As a senior captain in 1993-94, he led U-M in scoring (19-50-69), was voted a Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist, earned All-America first team, and picked up All-CCHA first team recognition.
» A selection of the New York Rangers in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft (12th round, 257th overall), Wiseman appeared in three NHL games, all with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1996-97.
» He had six strong seasons between the International Hockey League and the American Hockey League. In 446 career minor league games, he totaled 515 points on 145 goals and 370 assists. In 1998-99, he was the IHL's leading scorer and Most Valuable Player while leading the Aeros to the Turner Cup. He also captained the Aeros in 1999-2000.
A native of Chatham, Ontario, Wiseman and his wife, Brandee, reside in Ann Arbor with their two daughters Chloe and Cameron.

Matheson is going to be completely baffled by this. Where's the connection to the Oilers of old? He did have a short stint with Tippett in the past though, so he can at least cling to that. God forbid you ever hire anyone you don't already know...

We can fix it by inviting his kid to camp.

No, first he must be initiated into the hallowed ranks of the OBC. He will be made to assume the position and receive the Paddle of Honor while uttering, "Thank you, sir. May I please have another?" several times.

It's worse than that. I believe it's the first time in over 15 years we've hired a wiseman into an Oilers management position.

That's "gold"
I think he was reluctant to sign, because he heard that he had to help Lucic get to 10 goals. After the trade, he agreed to sign on immediately.

You'd think he comes from the College ranks, he might have some new ideas and be good with young players.

He's Tippett's old video coach.
|
So I assume that means he's bad in your eyes?

Didn't I say the Oiler video coach's days were numbered!

Who now?
Ah well looks like a Tippett contact in the fraternal NHL boys club. I mean it's fine but no one has anything on the Oilers OG club.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.
