Somebody show some energy. Just somebody. Don't care who.

And they get scored on with shot #1.

This is insane. This allowing the first shot is just incredible. It defies the laws of averages. It defies statistics. It has been happening since before Eakins. The goalies the players the coaches have all changed over. This would be like flipping a coin 100 times and getting 95 tails. A shooter tutor wouldn't be this bad. There is no way Kevin Slowe sitting in an office could affect this.

Sorry to say NHL needs regulating of the bad teams like English premier league.

There's something in the water. I joke, but I think the Burger Chef is correct... assuming he was using water as a metaphor for organizational culture.

I turned the game on at 2-1 with 8 minutes left and was not worried at all they would tie it up. A month or two ago they were dangerous until the end. Now, they're just listless.

I gotta say, it at least looks like Brad Malone cares and is willing to work. Maybe he just hasn't been briefed on the Oilers 'culture' yet.

Oilers were the better team for the last 15 mins of that period, but the first 5 killed them badly. Seems to be the narrative with this team.

I'd love to see what this team would do without McDavid and Drai for a couple weeks. That drops us to a icing a payroll a little under the Hurricanes.

That's the crazy thing, the Oilers have been relatively healthy this year. Among the good players, only Klefbom has been hurt for any length of time. Russell was hurt too for a while, buuuuuuuuuut

One of the most embarrassing things about the last dozen years is that we've been this bad while spending to the cap almost every single year. You look at those teams in the late 90s, competing against guys paying 4 and 5X the payroll and still taking them to the limit and even winning occasionally, and then you look at what this crew has built in comparison and it's just awful.

I know people say that Katz is just all about the money, but if that were true, why spend so much to still be awful? Or why is he not livid to have missed out on a decades worth of playoff revenue since he bought the team!?

Klefbom takes a brutal hit from behind. Does the ref do his job and call it 5 and a game? Hell no, this is the Oilers were talking about. Nino will get to run around and do the same thing later.

How about that Rask-Nino trade? Fenton was hyped for being under Yzerman and pulled the trigger on that deal. Basically traded Nino for another Spooner.

Sucks when our rare good games happen against a goalie playing well. Only solution is to keep pushing and getting chances. Guess that's the dif between good and bad teams, good ones keep rolling and can deal with hitting a hot goalie now and then and losing when they may have deserved a win.

Looking at the shot quality. Ended up with the oilers getting 13 high danger chances vs 12 for the canes. So, shot clock definitely misleading. Probably lots of easy junk being tossed by us (admittedly I only watched 5-6 minutes of the actual game, which is around my average lately).

So, this "good effort" only gave us a ~50/50 shot at a win, and it went the other way. Just a mediocre to poor team doing mediocre to poor stuff.

You often hear that good teams find ways to win.

Bad teams find ways to lose. So far tonight is an example of that. Even while playing good, odds are high the Oilers will lose this one.

Positive note, extremely unlikely we see a third period collapse tonight!

Powerplay needs to score.

This team isn’t deep, but McDavid and Draisaitl is a pretty good nucleus for a solid power play. Figure it out.

Both the Pens announcers last game and now the Canes announcers tonight commenting on Skills Coach Paul Coffey at the game and usually travels with the team.

First I have heard of him in that role for a while, maybe even since last season?
Was he brought back post Chia or always there just never mentioned?
