Two points out of the playoffs, Colorado and Anaheim have fallen off of cliffs, every team who isn't in the top five in the west isn't good at hockey. Those are good odds. Optimism!

The best we can hope for is a fluky playoff run. So here's hoping!
2015/2016 - This Kool-Aid tastes like McDavid flavoured Drain-O.
2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

this is one of those teams that you should probably beat if you're a playoff team - even a crummy bubble team. Is Petterson still out too?

Local radio in Van is saying there's a chance he plays. You just know he'll light us up too, it's the Vancouver way.
The radio guys were also yapping about how the Canucks routinely shut down McDavid, even though on paper he still has 18 pts in 15 games against them. Their "shutting down" is like everyone else's: water skiing off of him and getting the benefit of the doubt from the refs.
Hope Koskinen can show up on the road for once. If Pettersson is not playing, there is no excuse to lose this game... the only mandate in that case should be to avoid the penalty box.
Lucic or Kassian should go right after Roussel to discourage any shenanigans.

The Canucks have been able to "shut down" McDavid by employing the time tested water skiing or tackling defensive structure that the refs seem cool to allow.
I don't really remember a game against the Canucks where Lucic looked overly good. It would be a great time for him to have a real good game, impose his will and maybe pop a goal.

I like Stauffer's idea he keeps saying on his radio show, get these guys to go after their star guys. Every other team does it to McDavid, the Oilers should play the same game.
Like that game in Calgary earlier this season where Tkachuk and even that idiot Backlund were taking clear shots at McDavid. Retaliate on Gaudreau, what's the point going after Tkachuk who won't fight. McDavid could handle his own, Johnny is a little puke. Why am I so angry right now.

Petterson not playing helps. The Oilers need to come out hard and not let the Canucks out work them. They pissed away a game against the Coyotes. If they are serious about making the playoffs, this is a game they have to have. A regulation win.

If given the choice between no win and an overtime win, I take overtime win. Getting two points in more games than you don't get two points solves a lot of problems.

True. Though ROW comes in as the tiebreaker amongst a glut of teams fighting for the 2 wildcard spots.

How many games was it that Yammamoto could play this year at the NHL and have still have his ELC slide to next year? Nine, I believe? Well if that's the case he's already passed that. So stupid to burn a year of his ELC for what about 25 games he might play and not really producing. It's not like we couldn't use a guy who chip 3 years down the road on a value contract. Plus couldn't this affect requirments for the expansion draft?

If you're engaged in some sort of long term planning, I'll see you to the door good sir. The goal is playoffs this year and this year only. Good day.
Especially since Yamamoto is lighting it up offensively. How can you not keep <checks stats> 13 games, 1 goal, and 1 assist in the line up? What the hell, Oilers?

I think because Yamamoto is now a pro and too old for junior, this year is burned off the ELC no matter what the Oilers did. I was surprised he was AHL eligible in his draft+2 season. We don't normally see that, but he turned 20 on Sept. 29th last year.
Edit: This is incorrect.
https://oilersnation.com/2018/07/16/kailer-yamamoto-and-the- nhl-contract-slide-rule/
Since Yamamoto has played 10 NHL games we have burned a year off of the ELC. AHL games don't matter. Brutal asset management again by a team that needs high end players on cheap deals.

It's interesting how much opportunity Yams has got, under McLellan and Hitch. He looked OK his rookie year, got chances but no luck. This year, pretty invisible in almost every game he's played, but the top 6 chances just keep on coming. His AHL time was not great either. weak 5v5 production, a bit better on the PP. He really should be down there for another year or 2.

Completely agree he should be playing in the A. Unless, of course, the ‘young developing forward’ that was mentioned refers to Yams and not JP so they want to ‘showcase’ Yams?

The question is, does Sportnet pony up for two announce crews, or do we have to listen to somewhat competent John Shorthouse and wildly homeriffic John Garrett?

I'm of the mindset that both Yamamoto and Puljujarvi should be in the AHL right now.
Cave probably is more 4C than 3C.
But I guess somebody has to play.
Anyways, I don't think Yamamoto or Puljujarvi are brining more than Spooner or Rattie, and so you really have to ask what is best for their development. I tend to think Bakersfield probably is.

I think Pulju is at least playing a reliable defensive game. He's getting good at poking pucks away and cutting off passes. For sure though, the offensive side is not really happening. Opportunity it too sparse. Hitch is actually starting him in the defensive zone a lot. I think the majority of his games he is getting more defensive than offensive zone starts. He went on a run of multiple games in a row with next to 0% offensive zone starts. Not ideal if you're trying to build the kids offensive game up, but I think Hitch may be focusing on just making him reliable enough that he can stay permanently in the lineup.
Yams is kinda lost in all 3 zones IMO, similar to Spooner. Rattie probably brings more than the other 3.
