Another touch pass from him just like the one he made to set up the GWG in game 2 vs VGK…

Yup have to give Skinner credit. He was rock solid and didn't fold after that 3-1 lead by Florida. He was fantastic the rest of the way.

Awesome comeback win. Lots of huge hits on Florida D too. Welcome to the west fellas.
Skinner looks dialled in still. Optimistic he lasts the series like that.
Healthy Drai is a beautiful thing. Not sure the media remembers Drai had broken ribs last year. Just doing a straight comparison of his past years performance when he could barely move.

Whew. 3 more.
Nice to be ahead. Keep home ice on Friday.
Just looking at the boxscore, and other than 97 & 2 playing 31 minutes, it's pretty balanced for us. Florida had their top 4 D men over 31 min and bottom 4 forwards in the single digits.
THey've played more hockey than anyone the past three years, so tire them out.
97.

Skinner looked solid all night, without looking special. He did his job and yeah we got 3 goals against, but with the exception of say the PP goal, which Weeks suggested he could have got across a bit quicker he can't be blamed..
Brown looked a little rusty, but he'll get back up to speed quickly enough.
We won the game, but please can we move away from McDrai as a regular shift. I could see it at times, but to stick with it even though tied and in OT. It would have posed them more problems. They did win us the game that being said...

Ended Florida’s streak of 30 straight playoff wins when leading after 2. Quite a statement.
Might need to start watching for Bennett high elbow flybys on skinner. Next game.

Skinner played the kind of game we need. He didn’t stand on his head, but he stopped what he should. But dear god - someone get him a leash. Stay in the damned net!
As for the Panthers, Tkurtle looks like Drai did last year. Willing to bet he has a fairly serious injury. Their most annoying and easily most dangerous player was Bennett. We need to put extra oomph in when finishing checks on him.

As long as Kane stays healthy Bennett is going to start to fade away. The Oilers have one of the few players in the league that can and will intimidate him. Just like Tkatchuk in Calgary

Drai/Kane/Kapanen line beat up Ekblad's pair the most. Ekblad was getting nailed all night. Was beautiful to watch.
Nurse/Kulak had the most trouble against Florida's 3rd line but didn't get scored on 5v5. Kind of a continuation for Nurse against Florida :) Bending all night, but never broke, largely thanks to Skinner.
Schmidt's pair really beat down our 3rd line. Henrique, Frederic and Brown really struggled all night, caught a couple times against the middle 6 forward group on Florida. Brown did not look like himself. Hope it's just an illness about to resolve and not a lingering concussion thing.

I never put in the time to understand these stats?
Fancy numbers. Did they have us being puck luck team? McDavid appeared to dominate visually, did that translate?
Also, Skinner was great. I am so happy for the guy and he seems like a great dude. Hope it continues! LFG!!!!

Think a pretty even game overall. Neither team ran away with possession or chances.
Honestly think the Oilers have a better game in them than they played today. Friday would be a great time to have one of our super dominant performances :)

Love that we start by stomping on their big claim to fame. So much for the streak.
Kapanen's best game as an Oiler. Lots to like, although second left a lot to be desired. Henrique's line looked challenged, Kane was AWFUL at breaking the puck out of his zone and Klingberg had a brutal night. I could see Stecher drawing in, given that performance out of #36, although with a win they may not be in a hurry to make lineup changes. I'd probably put Skinner in ahead of Frederic too... #21 is looking like he's not right again. A little slow getting in, so not much hits and after that, he's invisible.
McDavid and Draisaitl are a treat to watch though and it was fantastic to see them decide to just tilt the ice after 40 mins. Now let's do that again on Friday!

And it was one of the seldom-used guys in Nosek that sent the puck over the boards and lost them the game. Punishing them for playing those players is only going to make them play them less, which tires out the top guys, especially in a series as physical as this one looks like it's going to be.

Great game.
Great win.
And.
The Oil can play better.
Henrique was a weak link.. falling down.. slow.. weak on pucks..
Defensemen had a few yips in their end .. I expect they'll iron that out.
Perry.. poor guy had a some tough penalties in the 1st.. when Florida scored on the PP.. I remember thinking he's going to make sure he scores the GWG .. not quite.. but major factor in setting up the OT winner..
Plays so smart.
Kept challenging roid boy Ekblad to scrap but he wouldn't go..
The guy is an absolute beaut.
Podz had a great game.. wrecking ball..got his body on a lot Florida D-men.. tilted the ice towards the Florida net.. he challenged Ekblad as well.. the guy looked pumped.
The much criticized Arvidsson (usually me) pumped home the game breaker.. the game was on the cusp before that went in.. lots of hustle and running around trying get his body on guys.
Keep it rollin' !

Ya want a good omen?
As the game was going to OT last night, I had a wild premonition. I had a feeling that the GWG was going to be scored on the 46th shot of the game. Why the 46th? Well, if the Oilers are gonna win the Cup, they're gonna have to exorcise some ghosts. One of the biggest Oilers "ghosts" came in Game 1 of the 2006 finals when MAB fell on our number 1 goalie. What number did MAB wear? 46.

Big surprise for me is that there was one stinker let in last night, and it wasn't by Skinner. 1st goal Bennett fell into him and it was deflected and then off the post. 2nd was Marchand by himself on the PP. And the 3rd Bennett on a breakaway. Hasek may have stopped one or all of those, but I don't fault him for any of them.
Bobrovsky however - that Arvidsson goal was pretty leaky. It wasn't the worst goal ever or anything, but certainly not something we've seen go in on Bob very often. Hopefully he beats himself up over it for the next 2 days.

For reasons unbeknown to myself, Premier Sports always carry the NHL world feed for the finals, every round up to the finals they take the feed of the home team. So we had Weeks as the colour guy, and as I said earlier, he was trying to claim that Skinner was a bit slow across the crease for the second goal. Now as an ex-NHL goalie, I want to give him some scope in terms of his knowledge, but the I've heard nothing from any other goalie turned tv analyst.
They've been selling the Skinner story since the start, I know he didn't help himself in the first two games and we know what he's like, but it's still sell the Skinner story by the media is now getting as boring as the Oilers can't defend.

Fantastic win. I'm still pissed about that Bennett goal. What an absolute farce of a call that was.
Skinner was rock solid in the 2nd and 3rd when he needed to be.
Really hoping for Kane or someone to lay the smack down on Bennett.

Is Aaron Ekblad the biggest coward in the league?
He's 6'3 in the prime of his career and on roids but still ducks 40 year old Corey Perry face to face.
But has no issue sneaking up behind Evan bouchard at the end of his shift and choking him out.

I agree. There were people on here in the gdt saying it was a bad challenge. Honestly it was pretty obvious if you watch the replay there was no trip. He just 'fell'. Terrible call and momentum swing that could have cost the oilers everything.

I’ve still never forgiven him for that, as it likely cost them the Cup that year. Please also note that MAB never won a Cup with any other team he was a member of after that run.

I felt another version of this was that we had Pickard, who was playing really well, got his leg fallen on, which ended up being an injury, but not only did we still win the game but our next goalie in ended up being able to play extremely well and pick up where Pickard left off.
Someone pointed out MAB wore 47, but maybe scoring before we got to MAB counts as good omen too. Can aspire to not be like MAB lol

I still think it was a terrible challenge. We've seen much more egregious plays not get overturned. Sure Bennett staggered back into Skinner, but there was enough there to say that he tripped over Kulak's skate. I do 100% believe it was intentional on Bennett's part, but at no point did I think that was getting overturned.

If that's Bennett making a reasonable effort to avoid contact then I have an oceanfront property in Alberta to sell the NHL

Well, if the Oilers are gonna win the Cup, they're gonna have to exorcise some ghosts. One of the biggest Oilers "ghosts" came in Game 1 of the 2006 finals when MAB fell on our number 1 goalie. What number did MAB wear? 46.

47. Right. Damn it. The ol' memory is not what it was.
What happened to all of my messages? lol (I guess it's been awhile) BlueSky: StefBarnes
