It's here, game 1 and time to get back down to business. Every game is a must win in the finals, but let's keep home advantage please.
This team has it's bad games, but we've come back every time in these play-offs. Lots of "experts" wrote us off in each round and we've proved them wrong. So even if the nightmare start returns, let's not get to down hearted or full of gloom this team has time and time again shown they are fighters and winners and they'll get the job done this year.

Man - this has taken forever. Hope the boys come out firing on all cylinders and crush their spirit (and their bodies) right from the get go. Start on time and play a 60 minute game and I like our chances. As long as good Stu shows up.

Finally hockey is back! LFG boys!
I suspect Skinner draws out to make room for Brown, even though he was solid last game.

Don’t let Florida get the jump on us. Got healthy Drai and Kane this time around. Both guys should be huge in this series.

Why did I think straight away you were suggesting Brown to go in goal.... Full on panic mode thinking why the ... then realised my utter foolishness. I'll go get my dunce hat on

I know nothing about hockey as the Oilers have proven me wrong at every turn.
I have never been so pleased to be not as right as I usually am.
The Oilers need to add more grease for grease and grit for grit to win this.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

Question for you - how do you watch from the UK? Is it broadcast or do you stream it from somewhere?
Turns out I will be in Paris for games 6 and 7 if necessary. Naturally, work will be secondary - most important thing is to make sure I have a way to watch if I need to.

We have done a great job lately of not letting any goalies intimidate us. Bob definitely got in our heads early in the last finals. Let's light this guy up ASAP

I have a funny story related to Game 1. Earlier today, the Globe and Mail had a story out about the McDavid's and the finals. In it, it said, Quote: | Kelly McDavid and her husband, Brian, will head to Edmonton from Toronto on Tuesday. When they arrive they will stay with their son, daughter-in-law and dog-in-law, Lenard, a Bernedoodle.
|
My wife wrote them to let them know that Lenard is not the "dog-in-law" but the "granddog" of the Kelly and Brian. AND, they actually corrected the article.
Go Lenny!
What happened to all of my messages? lol (I guess it's been awhile) BlueSky: StefBarnes

Here in the UK, the NHL is shown on a really obscure sports channel called Premier Sports, so I take that via my cable. Were I to go online sub, I could watch every game, but when the Oilers aren't on (which they are in play-offs as all games covered), I'll stream
A quick look on the NHL website shows that in France beIN sports are the rights holder as is NHL tv.

Just comparing to last years finals
Here was game 4 last year when we started to recover:
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins -- Connor McDavid -- Zach Hyman
Ryan McLeod -- Leon Draisaitl -- Corey Perry
Mattias Janmark -- Adam Henrique -- Connor Brown
Warren Foegele -- Derek Ryan -- Dylan Holloway
Mattias Ekholm -- Evan Bouchard
Darnell Nurse -- Philip Broberg
Brett Kulak -- Cody Ceci
Stuart Skinner
Calvin Pickard
This year:
Nugent-Hopkins - McDavid - Perry - Similar, Hyman was broken in the finals last year, Nuge struggled with Florida's checking. McDavid had to solo almost the entire series. Maybe Nuge has another level in him this time and it will be a better line. Perry may be able to do more than the beat up Hyman did last finals.
Kane - Draisaitl - Kapanen - Much better. Drai was physically destroyed by the finals, Kane was just done.
Frederic - Henrique - Brown - Similar, but Henrique was injured last year. Maybe Frederic can bring some physical play. I think Henrique and Brown are playing much better 5v5 right now than they did last playoffs
Podkolzin - Janmark - Arvidsson - Better IMO as an energy line.
Ekholm - Bouchard - Similar, need to see how Ekholm holds up. I think Bouch has taken his overall game to another level
Nurse - Kulak - Better in terms of analytics. The Nurse/Broberg pair were blessed by the hockey gods last series though. No matter how many quality chances they gave up, they were never punished. It's hard to reproduce that.
Walman - Klingberg - Infinitely better.
Skinner - Same dudes. Can only hope Skinner has a better start to these finals
Pickard
All that said. Florida added Marchand and Jones with their LTIR scamming, so they improved a bit too. Rodrigues is having a rough playoffs at least. He was probably the guy that killed us the most last finals.

Glad it's finally starting, though I wish I could fast-forward until the end and either be happy or sad.
I just don't know if I have the energy to get through another series against these fools, however.
I think I'll start with the pbp gamecast and not watch, like I did for the LA and Vegas comeback streak (until game 3).

I know we’ve come back in series before, but I don’t want a comeback. I want us to win.
In our 5 Cup wins, we won game 1 4 times.
In the 3 losses (83, 06, 24) - we lost game 1.
If we lose we will have to say “it’s only 1 game” but the reality is, game 1 winner has won the Cup 76.5% of the time. That goes up to 83.9% when the home team wins game 1.
Anyway - all that to say: LFG!!!!!!!!

I’d bet you’d find the team that won the series has won more of every game.
That being said, the Oilers should win this game. They’re the better team. So they should win the series too.
