Apparently OilersNation was suggesting it's not that far-fetched yesterday too.
Seems a little challenging on how you'd make the numbers work. I'm pretty sure he'd want max years and close to max dollars, so basically could only afford him if the team decides that they're not re-signing McDavid or Bouchard...

If the Oilers look at their lineup and think scoring is going to be a problem, sure, go after Rantanen. He's really good at scoring. But if they look at the lineup and notice some problems with defense, depth forwards, and maybe even goaltending... well let's spend the new found 14 million in cap space they have on those problems.

Unless he is signing for $1M for 1 year to try and win like the Avs got Kariya and Selanne to do in 2003-04 I don't think this happens. And the chances of a guy who already won a cup of doing that just 3 years later when he is about to be a UFA for the first time is zero. Just silly for anyone to even think this would happen.
