Hey, we tried!
Pretty damn rude that they didn't let Marky play us. Jake Allen had our number with the Blues many times. We probably win this with Markstrom in net.
Ah well, on to the next.

I'm just sorry tardigrade's A&W streak got broken.
Annoying loss. Double them in shots, and somehow both find ways not to score all night and also have the .812 sv% from Pickard. Similar to a lot of games when we struggled last year, while none of the goals against were awful, at some point you need a big save. Closest we came to that tonight was when Hischier's stick blocked a sure goal.
Of course, hard to complain too much about the goaltending when you don't score. Seemed to stay to the outside a lot of the game but I mean, they did have some golden opportunities and just nothing was going in. Maybe deserved better.
Oh well, on to the next one.

The Oilers didn’t look good.
But they did look good in 4K, thanks Amazon!

2 NB born (Moncton and Fredericton) goalies going head to head in the NHL. That had to be a first.

This is actually the 7th time they have played each other head to head (beginning in 2024, remember Pickard has been around a while and was the Avs starter one year). Pickard is now 1-5-1 when playing Allen.

Are there any good New Brunswick goalies?

Our power kill is horrendous. Almost a guarantee if a team gets a PP they will score

According to hockey reference there have been six NHL goalies from NB:
Jake Allen 434 GP 198 Wins
Roland Melanson 291 - 129
Calvin Pickard 145-50
Rick Knickle (amazing name) 14-7
Cedrick Desjardins 6-2
Bill Dickie 1-1
Roland Melanson might be the answer for best NB goaltender. He was Billy Smith's back up in the early 80s (even played more games in 1982-83 when they won the Jennings). Got his name engraved on the Cup 3 times. After leaving the island he played for the North Stars, Kings, Devils, and Habs before retiring after the 92 season.
Interestingly, out of his 23 playoffs games 10 of them were against the Oilers. He went 2-5 (the other three games were Billy Smith losses) in those games during the '81, '84, '87, and '88 playoffs.

First game in-person of the season and it looked like a rec league game with 5 hits recorded by the Oilers. They looked physically engaged against the Flames the night before and came out flat on the boards and in front of both nets.
I’m expecting a much more physical presence against the Knights tonight. This team continually seems to match the opponents level of intensity, night in and night out over the McDavid era. It’s time to dictate the level of play and get the opponents to match. Vegas will be aggressive. Looking forward to seeing 97 in the new season. Hoping to see a big night from Davo.
