Hopefully this game shuts up some of the Chicken Littles. Getting annoying around here.

A lot of players had their best game of the year tonight. Oddly, Skinner had a pretty bad game, when he has been one of the few consistent bright spots in the season thus far.
Some teams crumble when a star gets hurt, others get their act together and come out stronger. Hopefully this team has remembered who they are and start playing some strong hockey.

sorry, but this team had 59 minutes of the last game to show how they would play without 97 so what would lead anyone to expect anything different? Adding Philp and Caggulia should not have turned the needle.
...that said, the early goal helped and more than that PICKARD finally gave this team a fighting chance to win. Philp won a couple of key faceoffs.

...so, I'm off the ledge after this one. But lose to the Flames and it's back to the window. Ha.

...this time, it's for real (isn't it?).

Yikes.. Didn't see that comin' !
I take back what I posted about them not being able to dig in.. good game all around..

Philp looks good.. great at face offs (10/14).. gets a solid assist on the game winner.. kid has some hands.. and a shot! I think Mr. Ryan just lost a spot.. very solid performance.. 👍🏻 I like Philp with Perry .. very complimentary together.. Perry would be an awesome NHL mentor for the kid.

Next step is to get Philp trained on the PK.

Pickard played like the #1 .. some amazing saves..

Leon taking the team over.. best game of the year.

Two fights.. two decisions.. Emberson takes on their tough guy.. win.. and Podkolzin almost KO's poor Lauzon.. who is a solid dude.. yikes..

Almost all the guys guys stepped up tonight.. great to see.

Couldn’t watch this one. See that Drai still refuses to not destroy Nashville. Arvidsson AND Hyman goal??? Insanity. Another fight and podz with the KO weights

Beating the lames to get over .500 would be sweet.

So - they go with Pickard next game? 3 wins in a row. .938% and 1.67GAA over those games.

Yeah but Skinner played a good playoff game once against Dallas!

I don't understand the commitment to the guy. I was a very early Skinner booster, and I still think he makes a great backup., but I just don't have much confidence in him as a #1.

Even after being on the team that went to game 7 of the finals, no goalie with as many GP this century has a worse save %. He is dead last at .894 (2nd worst is Emery with .902). GAA is 5th worst. I know those are just cherry picked stats, but they mirror what I see. Someone who will have a great game now and then, but more often than not needs his team to outscore his play.

.. upon time to reflect.. Nashville are a struggling team.. so I think all my positivity from last night should be factored vs. the opposition.. the true test will come vs. the Southerners on Sunday

The one guy that seems to be playing sub par that I've noticed this year is RNH.. 11 games only 1G + 3A .. but ignoring stats he's looked pedestrian .. uninvolved.. especially at center. Negligible threat to score on the PP.. thought it could be just me but
Lowetide mentioned he's worried about RNH as well.

Of all the obvious unforced errors the Oilers have made in the McDavd era, goaltending is the worst. Just rolling with Smith / Koskinen for 3 years then betting the farm on Campbell / Skinner for 1 before going Skinner / Pickard for 2 is a parade of trying to only be good enough. Box checking at its finest.

It is really an incredible blindspot. I mean, you could say that you thought that the team owed it to Skinner to give him another year as the starter given that he backstopped us to game 7 of the Cup Finals, but I mean, he got benched in the 2nd round after bombing several games. You'd think that at least you'd have looked to see if there was a better back-up than Picard.

Picard's played some of his best hockey of his entire career as an Oiler - but when you're a 33-year old journeyman, that's not usually the time when people come in to their own. It's not clear that it's sustainable and so it wouldn't have been the the horse I bet on as the right back-up. Reality is that he's one injury away from being our starter and his track record doesn't suggest that he would excel in the role. We've made it Skinner or bust here, which seems a really dangerous bet.

Maybe the team thinks they can add a 1A goalie at the deadline as well as a RHD?
