lol, at one point Nurse just skated right into Emberson for no reason. 2nd RHD spot is gonna be very interesting this year for sure. I would guess the orgs current dream is we can get to the deadline in a comfy position with what we have. Gut feel is that is a big gamble, if we have any interest in home ice advantage in any series in the playoffs.

and if they get to that point to they find someone that can help them for this year more than 86 could have? I'm not sure. Holland clearly burned that bridge before he left but I still think they would have been better to go into LTIR and have a defenceman in hand for at least a couple of years. Oh well - we'll see what they can do with the cap space in the spring.

I personally don't think Borberg on his off side was going to be a solution. But ... they should have done something. Even just not trading Ceci as some insurance. Maybe Grier would have taken something else for Emberson.

Ha! Yeah I saw that.. poor Emberson standing there looking puzzled as to what Nurse was trying to do.. in the end just tried to get out of Nurse's way as he skates into him..
I watched some of the St. louis v Kraken yesterday.. watched Broberg.. guy is lights out better than Nurse.. skates like the wind.. actually has some hockey IQ.. <sigh>
That Nurse contract has cost the Oilers .. lost some good players..

Kind of crazy that if we just kept Campbell and kept supporting him with his mental health struggles, we could have 1.1M of extra space, plus 5M of extra LTIR. 10M to find a goalie and RHD.

He needs to just be a hard nose defender. Nothing more. Being one of the hardest defenders in his division would be huge props. When he starts thinking, he always stubs his dick on something.
Just rough up forwards, move bodies, block shots and get the puck out. You’re not Hedman.

Just let him be a free spirit. Just need a super reliable RHD that can do 80% of the passing for him!
We have a 9.25M D that needs to be heavily elevated by his D partner. It's a disaster really.

I think the plan is to bandaid this until Jan/Feb and then to use the extra cap space to get someone for the playoff run. Given where we're at, I'm not sure that isn't the best path left available to us.

Not a ton of great UFAs-to-be, so may have to be creative and look beyond that. Neal Pionk or David Savard are maybe the best available on teams who might not be contenders. After that it's not great so may need to find a way to get someone with term if those guys aren't the ones.

Not going to win anything with that type of effort.
The team looked a lot slower, by a lot. Concerning. I saw the lethargy in preseason, but thought it was because it was preseason, but that same energy was present in that game.
It's only one game, but there is a trend if you are looking at the sum of games with preseason included.
The very definition of insanity is doing the exact same thing expecting different results.
Generally Disappointed.

I would hate to think the org actually thought Stecher or Dermott could survive with Nurse. At least Emberson had some mystery around him with an apparent ability to survive the SJ Sharks disaster in a small sample size.
