No details on dollars yet.

This is honestly too much fun. I can only just laugh. I like the player on the ice. People around the league are gonna be so mad at the Oilers which is equally hilarious.

Just good fun

I guess it's time to embrace the role of heel, like in the WWE.

Love it. Perfect player and low cost/risk acquisition for a deep playoff run. Something something Lowe, Comrie..

I agree. I think he is extremely slow at this point but as long as it is within an acceptable range and he is ok in a support role I like the signing.

It will take me some time to embrace him fully given the time I have spent hating him. Vegas is the team where he can endear himself to the fan base. A quick cheap shot on Pietrangelo could go a long way.

As Suoma mentioned, we need to go full heel as a fanbase. Anyone who didn't already hate the Oilers is much more likely to now.

Not sure how I feel about it yet, haven't seen him play for a couple of years.. he's not a PK'er so on bottom 6 his role will be limited.. guy has a snipe shot, and knows how to put the puck in the net from anywhere, good passer, and always competes and likes to play physical..

It will all depend on what he has left for wheels..

Who drops out of the bottom 6? The guy that does probably plays a key role on the PK which has been pretty solid..

I hated him during the 2006 run but always liked the way he played (against other teams)

Sounds like they will be sacrificing next years cap again. I can see why Holland doesn't GAF, but it will hurt the team not having that money to spend.

Other than the obvious issues around signing a player who 6 weeks ago had his contract terminated for inappropriate behaviour of some kind, I’m pretty concerned by the reports that we are looking to pay him mostly on performance bonuses, sacrificing more yet of next year’s cap.

I guess we will see when we find out the terms of the deal, but I’m concerned about having a GM who has no horizon beyond this year doing dumb things that hurt the team beyond his tenure.

As for the character issues - I’m sure the 6 weeks off taught Perry a valuable lesson and he’s not a creepy douchebag any more.

I will say, if the team is willing to look the other way on Kane’s transgressions and even worse on Virtanen’s, then Perry, basically a Boy Scout next to the others, makes sense to forgive. I sure hope they don’t take the next step and hire that dirtbag who harassed the handicapped kid next though.

What are the chances that they win it all? And even more so, what are the chances that 38-year old Corey Perry is the difference between them winning it all or not?

He'll still be dirt cheap for a player with something to prove and a lot of playoff experience. Those chips are going all in. No half measures. Cup or bust. Corey Perry is more of a plus to this year than he is a negative to next.

Well, we don't know that. We haven't heard what the contract is. Certainly there were lots here who thought Connor Brown was a big win when his deal was announced. If we have a similar contract for Perry, that would be problematic. We will see.

Ugh, we seriously are letting Holland screw up another negotiation? Perry gets his contract killed after the league agrees he crossed the line with a Blackhawks employee, and we would give him more than a near league min cap hit as he tries to redeem himself, plus a chance at the cup? Crazy, but so very Holland. Holland in another bidding war against himself.

I think it's a great addition. For the playoffs, the Oilers bottom 6 needs some size, physical play, grit, a little nasty, not to mention some depth scoring. His playoff/cup experience is icing on the cake for me.

The Oilers have added both Holloway and Perry to their line up that was already setting NHL records for wins in a row. I am pretty happy about that.

I am just curious to know if the Oilers delay registering the contract for a little bit. They will have to make a roster most as soon as he is official and I would assume he will need to practice a little bit with the team before he plays. It's a good time for the signing because they are at home for the next 3 games, no back to back and then after Saturday, they have the all star break. So a good chance to get a bunch of skates in with the team.

There will be performance bonuses but can’t see what those are yet. He will wear number 90, so Derek Ryan’s number is safe.

Here are the bonuses per cap friendly:

Quote:

Corey Perry can earn up to $325,000 in performance bonuses:

1. $225k for 10 games played

2. $50k if EDM wins the 2nd RD of the playoffs and Perry: a) plays in 50% of RD 2 games, or b) 50% of the total of RD 1 & 2 games

3. $50k if EDM wins the 3rd RD of the playoffs and Perry: a) plays in 50% of RD 3 games, or b) 50% of the total RD 1, 2 & 3 games

Didn’t learn much from the low 10GP bar with Brown. Wonder if his agent asked for it because Brown got it. Say hello to 4M extra cap next year. They better win.

Anyone that doubted Perry would be the game changer for us in playoffs silenced by those bonuses. He is the man

Holland is hilarious

Anyways hopefully he is an annoying pain in the butt and we get lots of entertainment out of him

They HAVE to go for the Cup.

I'm not sure he's the missing ingredient, and if I had to choose between him and a goalie, well, I know which I think is more important. Maybe the team doesn't need to make that choice.

I'm glad the bonuses weren't ugly, and I'm glad that whatever Perry did isn't Virtanen level of douchebaggery. I don't like the Oilers approach though that they don't care at all what you did off-ice. That attitude will catch up to us eventually, although maybe it isn't all that surprising given Bob Nicholson is the Team Canada Slush Fund guy, and Darryl Katz has had a couple gross moments that we know of himself.

Hopefully Perry is a big contributor here and we can take the next step. Without it, I think we're in trouble relative to McDavid and Draisaitl, so we really need to keep winning.

I thought the Oilers bottom 6 had way too much of the same. Too many low scoring, undersized guys who didn't have any physicality in their games. That tends to now work that well in the playoffs. Adding in Holloway plus Perry really helps change the make up of the bottom 6 for the better.

It will be interesting to see just how different the Oilers media is around Corey Perry, who got fired 6 weeks ago for unbecoming behaviour as opposed to say, Ilya Bryzgalov who made a joke that he was scared of bears once. If you’ll remember, when Bryzgalov arrived, he was grilled by Inspector McGruff…errr…Ryan Rishaug. There wasn’t really any reason other than Bryzgalov could be goofy sometimes and Rishaug was there to make sure he knew that Edmonton reporters were all business. I’m going to bet that this time the kid gloves will be on and the questions will be incredibly gentle. We will see!

Rishaug's gonna wake up with his lunch stolen and a third degree wedgie if he tries anything on Perry.

I find Rishaug, Spec and to a lesser degree Gregor all very full of themselves.

Rishaug did ask the Perry to expand on what happened, and the Worm skirted around the question which is understandable. Reading in between the lines it sounds like this matter is not over from the Corey Perry party.

I did chuckle when he defended the game tying goal where Kesler had a death grip on Talbot's leg. Even when he is on our team he is a little unlikeable. Perfect.

I would bet the Oilers know exactly what happened and as much as fans don't like to hear this, it's none of the fans business. The guy didn't do anything illegal so hopefully fans just move on.

In case you missed it, Rishaug already asked Perry point blank what happened in Chicago in yesterdays presser... I thought it smelled like Rishaug trying to be the edgy reporter.. he asked the question knowing he wouldn't get a detailed answer.. just wanted to have his question recorded ..

I am no media lover but in the case of Rishaug, if he asks the question then people come at him for asking him. If he doesn't ask the question then different people come at him saying the media is too soft on the Oilers. Either way, he makes someone mad.

I found it to be the softest way to ask that question and not at all point blank.

Rather than prefacing the question with “I certainly want to respect your privacy in these matters but I do have to ask…can you shed more light on what happened”

Why not:

“The report is that there was an incident involving alcohol and comments made to a team employee. Care to tell your side of the story?”

I will tell you why he didn’t ask it that way…because now Ryan gets to say he did his journalistic duty AND he did it without so much as even lightly swaying the boat #JournalisticIntegrity

I don't think anyone was mad he asked the question, just thought it came off like he asked it not for an answer but the industry credit for being the guy to ask it.

Sounds like Rishaug!

And the criticism for Rishaug (as with many Edmonton reporters) is that they tend to punch down. When it's a young Russian who's agent asked for a trade, they'll grill him like cops in a crime movie. And bad as the Yakupov interview was, the Bryzgalov one was worse. He had just signed here so there was really no good reason for their venom. When it's a veteran Canadian player who did something more newsworthy, they pull their punches.

Rishaug doesn't want to risk the organization's rage here so yeah, he asked but in a wimpy way. He knew he wasn't going to get a real answer, and he wasn't going to push. This isn't Yakupov after all.

Perry doesn't have to tell anyone anything. He didn't do anything illegal. So the only people he needs to explain things too are the people involved and his family. So like it or not, the self righteous fans who think they should know everything about everyone's personal business so they can pass judgement don't need to know squat.

It is the world we live in and it has been that way forever. For as long as there has been newspapers there has been a desire for gossip. Every coffee shop has a row of people talking about their neighbor, their co-worker, someone's spouse, their job, politics, etc ....

Put me in the self-righteous line. I want to know what happened. I want to know about the U18 SA controversy. Give me the dirt on Phanuef/Avery. Cutter Gauthier? Tell me more. What happened to those kids with the Moose Jaw Warriors that were suspended last year? I want it all.

Like you said earlier. The Oilers and most of the league likely know most of the story already, but all these teasers do is spark gossiping and click bait articles that fuels public interest.
