Oilers have #2, #5, #6, #7 .. maybe trade the 2nd for 2 x #3's

Craig Button has a new list up..
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/craig-s-list-adam-fantilli-leo-carlss on-jostle-for-2nd-behind-connor-bedard-in-nhl-draft-ranking- 1.1937531

I was looking at some of the names lower down where the Oil will likely pick.... there is a guy in the BCHL on Penticton V's.. Adar Suniev has 45G 45A (6'-2" 205#) on a stacked Vee's team (50-3-0) noticed they have some interesting names on the team..

Beanie Richter.. Mike Richter's kid..
Jackson Nieuwendyk .. Joe's kid
Josh Niedermayer .. Scott's kid
Callum Arnott .. uncle Jason

.. and a kid named "Ryan Hopkins"

We need to draft Ryan Hopkins... He'll be ready for NHL action just about the time RNH hangs em up.

Been tracking the Saskatoon Blades a bit because of Jake Chaisson, and there is this guy Egor Sidarov (Belorussian) that has some skill.. good season.. might be one to watch later rounds..
40G + 36A = 76 pts in 53 games.. +25
Currently ranked 81st in CS

He was passed over in last years draft (3 months older than 2023 draft eligible cutoff).. he'll be 19 on June 18th.

Apparently the lottery is today at 8pm Eastern. Haven't cared about one of these in a while. Would be nice if the ducks didn't get him. Go to Columbus Bedard

I am really hoping he goes to Columbus. The Blue Jackets have never had much going for them in their history, but they have a solid fanbase that could have a lot of growth if they could put together a contending team. Plus with them being in the eastern conference now it makes it even easier for me to like them.

I hope he goes to Phoenix. Because they never have anything nice and he wouldn't be a threat to the Oil down there for the next 5 years.

This is the big thing for me. I want the best players in the league to be furthest away from threatening our chances of success.

If I was a team who won the lottery here, I might be strongly considering a big offer to Kyle Dubas and then a strong play to get Auston Matthews if he doesn't re-sign with the Leafs.

At least he's with a team with a cool jersey! .. and he's not in the Pacific!

Man.. some sour looking GM's during the big lotto.. Arizona's Armstrong didn't even look up to the camera .. Grier looked really sour.. but really shouldn't be.. all those guys in the top 5 will still get really great players..

Best part was Flames staying at 16

Was it Ryan Whitney who called this back in January or so?

Oilers have #2, #5, #6, #7 ..

Now down to just #2, #6 and #7.

1st went for Ekholm, 3rd for Bjugstad, 4th for Brassard, and 5th for Grubbe. This draft might not be must-see TV for Oilers fans!

What a spectacular use of an asset that Brassard deal was.

Regular Season - 15GP 1-2-3
Playoffs - 1GP 0-0-0

Holland does one of these deals every year for a depth guy who barely moves the needle.

2020 - 5th round pick for Tyler Ennis
2022 - 4th round pick (2023) for Derrick Brassard
2023 - 3rd round pick (2023) and Mike Kesselring for Nick Bjugstad

All depth guys who were UFA-to-be, all of whom made limited impact. The funny thing is that he's vocally not willing to pay for an impact player on an expiring deal - all his "big" trades are for guys who are still under team control like Ekholm and Athanasiou, but he's more excited about a rental for someone less impactful.

I will say, while it's a higher price point, I expected more from the Bjugstad acquisition. 3 goals in 12 games in the post-season - so unlike Brassard, at least he got to play, but he just wasn't much of a factor. I suppose, to be fair that while he scored a decent amount of goals this year, the last few years he's about .25 ppg, so maybe that's just what we should have expected from him. Given that, maybe we shouldn't have had to throw in the prospect to make the deal.

In similar time on ice Bjugstad doubled Mcleod's shots on goal (scoring 17 to Mcleod's 11), +13 to Mcleod's +4, doubled Mcleod's hits in the playoffs and quadrupled them in the regular season. Despite playing 25 more games a slightly more TOI per game, had 10 fewer giveaways than Mcleod.

I think Mcleod can become a real player and could grow into the 3rd line center we want him to be, but Bjugstad is just plain better at this point in their careers. I liked that trade and thought it brought more of what we needed.

Interesting story on Michkov. It'll be interesting to see where he lands. My favourite part of the story is this:

Quote:

The Columbus Blue Jackets have indicated that they haven't met with Michkov, and are focused on taking a center at No. 3 overall.

Finland IS right next to Russia, so what does Kekelainen know that the rest of us don't!??!

Nah. They've already got Karelia (which is a damn crime). Consuming the Baltics is enough to establish warm water ports and neuter Finland politically.

How great would have it been for us to draft Quentin ‘Musty’?
