When's Kane back? We need to outscore these goal tending issues.

Errors cost this team again. That last goal doesn't happen if the trip on Nurse is called, but that's just the final insult.
Treading water still.
Oilers just aren't dealing with the rush. The blue line is given easily, the neutral zone is available. I'm not sure why the staff isn't getting these guys to stop bleeding chances off the rush. If you can't handle quick play and the other guys moving the puck with impunity into your zone, then play systemically in a way that takes the neutral zone and your blue line away from the other team. It has to be done.

Well, at least we had the last half and that playoff run last year. They can’t take those 4 straight playoff wins v Calgary away from us no matter how bad they are this year.

Outclassed pretty well. Which is kinda lame because the Devils depend on lots of young guys.
It wasn't a total loss though. Spector has a nice celebratory moment

Goal officially awarded to Draisaitl, his 11th. Puljujarvi never touched it.

You'd think the Oilers would be "damn good" by now, but nope... still haven't figured out glaring holes in their game. Year after year.
Ah, who cares. The Oilers can underachieve and I'll just watch the World Cup.

beat a 14-4 team on Saturday.
lost to a 15-3 team Monday.

"However, goalie partner Stuart Skinner said Campbell had a bloody nose but was joking around with him. He said Campbell is OK."
Maybe now Campbell will go on a tear now that a rogue puck made it personal and gave him a wakeup call.

Not that it matters. He hasnr been good. Entire team just hasn’t looked good. Officially on the outside looking in now.

It is quite frustrating. Even with 15 years of "rebuilding" and armed with arguably the 2 best players in the world, one of the best in the history of the NHL, here we sit at the end of November outside of a playoff position looking up at, amongst others, 2 teams that didn't even exist when we drafted McDavid.
Is Seattle doing this year what Vegas did their first year? Their goalies have been OK - around middle of the pack. Their PP is a little better than average (12th with 22.6%), PK is not very good (25th with 74.6%). So how are they 3 points up on us with a game in hand? Well, only thing I can see is even though they don't have a McDavid or a Draisaitl, they have 13 guys with 8+ points so far. We have 7. It's a problem we've harped about for years, yet the results never seem to change - we are getting nothing from our bottom 6.

I love Seattle's defense, but I think they've been riding a goalie heater. They're the bizarro world Oilers: no stars, a lot of depth, good D, and hot goaltending.

I knew it would be a tough game as the Devils are rolling but I thought Skinner would have a bounce back game. He did the opposite, I thought he was awful. Second goalie he decided to do his Smith impression with the puck. I felt that was a back breaker. 3rd goal he loses an edge and can't make a save. 4th goal doesn't handle the shot well then loses track of the puck. It's a goalies job to track pucks and he didn't. 5th goal goes through him. It would have been a tough save but that's your job.
I thought the defense as a whole was lousy. Actually the only guy I thought was OK was Neimo but he didn't play much.
McLeod played over 19 mins, 2:31 of that was special teams. So that's over 16 mins 5 on 5. WHY? He had the one chance where me missed a wide open net. Other than that, I don't notice him a ton. Just because your parents are in the stand, doesn't mean you play a guy to the determent of the team. I am hopeful for the guy but like I said in another thread, when he is on the ice, not a lot good happens. Thankfully he's not a train wreck but usually it's a whole lot of meh when he is on the ice. They need him to bring more.
Ryan and Holloway just are out there for giving the big guys a break it seems. Ryan can win a faceoff but other than that not much happens. Holloway is just not ready which is fine. I assume once Benson is ready to go, they will send Holloway down and give him a look.
Hat tip to JP because I thought he was good last night. No shots but he was a key contributor on both goals. MORE PLEASE!! He makes 3 mill, they need him to be a factor most nights.

The biggest difference I saw was the PK of either team, and it seems like year after year it's the same issue.
Oilers players skate up close-ish to an attacker, without actually pressuring him, then swing our stick back and forth trying to disrupt a pass.
Devils constant, and quick, pressure on the puck carrier all the time. Puck pops loose, two devils are chasing it immediately. It's a ton of effort to defend that way on the PK, but it's been effective against us for years. We did it for a while last year and had one of the best PK's in the league. This year we stopped again.

Well that's what I suspected so I went to see and at first glance it didn't look like that - Grubauer has been terrible and Martin Jones' numbers are around middle of the pack with 2.30GAA/.913 Sv %. But looking at the game logs, seems you might be right - he has over .900 in each of his last 8 games, .931 or better in 7 of his last 8. .947% and 1.49GAA over his last 8. Yeah - I guess that's not bad

Maybe that will be a turning point for Campbell. Things haven't gone well for him. A couple of goals may or may not have physically when through loose webbing in his glove. Now he takes a puck in the face just sitting on the bench. Maybe that is fates last kick in the nuts for him and they will move on. I feel for the guy. I am sure he was probably thinking whatelse can go wrong at this point.

Okay, Skinner had a flub. He is still playing miles better than Campbell at this stage of the game.
The concern for this team is our defense and how easily they give up chances at that net. I know we cannot blame Nurse making 9M but he isn't playing even half of his salary, he needs to be more. Ceci unfortunately is regressing back to where he was and Barrie is too busy jumping up in the play and making bad passes. Niemelainen is taking a step back (perhaps the bigs is getting too much for him).
What of Kulak? Poor coverage and a 180 from his game of last year. W
What is going on?

Kulak may have been re-signed based on a small sample size. I was surprised at well he played in the playoffs last year, now his stats look pretty normal to me.

Yup. A bad game here and there will happen. He’s still our goalie. I feel comfortable with him starting. Campbell has yet to show me he’s good outside of one solid game

I said it in the speculation thread. Yes they could use better dmen but that only goes so far. The forward group does not play good team defense. Yes Nurse can be better. Yes a few other guys on defense could be better but time and time the forwards do not come back like they need to, they do not pick up the men like they are supposed too. They fly the zone wanting that break out pass before their guy actually gets the puck rather than making sure he actually gets it. Way too often we see vet guys, from the stars down throwing their heads back after their man scores because they know they screwed up AGAIN! This isn't a team full of rookies. All the main guys have been in the league long enough to know you have to backcheck hard. You have to pick up your men all the time. I am not letting the dmen totally off the hook but way too many times the defenders are engaged and the winger or center just watches the opponents cruise right up the middle untouched to fire it in. They all know better, they are just choosing not to defend.

Fair play. It appears they are all waiting for McD to wind up or Draisaitl to get set up in his zone in the circles. I think JP has been getting into the dirty areas of the game and he's improved but even Hyman has trouble taking his man. Absolutely team defensive and the commitment to do it is glaringly obvious.

I am not giving a pass to the dmen as some haven't played well and they need to add a better defender but if the Oilers players expect the 2 dmen on the ice to do all the defending while the forwards wait to get fed pucks so they can go in on a rush, it's never going to work. Championship teams play TEAM defense. The Tatar goal is a good example. Barrie made a mistake so he needs to be better but Tatar should NEVER be allowed to cruise down the middle unmarked. For this goal it was JP standing there not picking him up watching a guy score but on other goals all year, it's other guys. PICK HIM UP!

Kinda like how The Skipped got amnesia when a pole hit his head, and his memory would only return when Gilligan hit him again with a rock?
Unconventional, but at this point I’d try anything.
