If Hillary Duff was my (ex) sister in law, I too, could develop the skill to stop guys from scoring.

Comrie going full John Quick was annoying. Passing up golden opportunities with lame passes too. Buffalo still sucks. Should have had that one. Couple awful plays to gift them 2 goals

I am beyond sick of watching Nurse be out of position and take stupid pens..he has been deserving of a night in press box for 2 years.

Our only hope for him missing a game would be if his debit card is stuck in a machine while he’s trying to withdraw his millions of dollars

I get that it's early in the season and that you can't jump to conclusions... however just by watching this team play and seeing the lack of commitment to the finer details, this is not a contending team. They don't have it. They might think they do, but they really don't.

You either play like a winning franchise, and look like you're ready... or you look like this. A middling team that can get hot at times, or look like utter dog sludge at others.

Still dirty.. he should've got filled regardless.. same plug almost put Leon on the LTIR as well.. only guy that is a threat to retaliate sufficiently is Kane.. and he's on the top line.. we need 3rd and 4th liners, and/or D-men that can provide out that kind of response.

A win gets even tougher with Hurricanes coming up..

Oiler defensemen, as feared.. haven't progressed.. same warts.

I wish the Oilers were as consistent and as focused as your vitriol towards Nurse. For some people, Nurse could lead the entire league in defensman scoring and play with an edge and it would it still would not be enough.

I can think of 10 reasons the Oilers lost last night. but I cannot point a finger at one player no matter how hard I try. Congrats on finding a scapegoat.

It sure would be nice if some of forwards weren't handling the puck like a live hand grenade. Kane was the most obvious around the net, but Bouchard, Nuge, Hyman, Yamamoto and even McDavid looked uncomfortable with the puck for the first two periods.

Ye. Some fancy plays just past the blue line where we immediately turned over the puck and it came back fast into our own end. Laziness, brain fart or just underestimating the opponent? Get the puck deep.

Agreed. Terrible suicide pass just sets Holloway up to get destroyed.

I agree with the posters earlier in the thread on Nurse's game. It was...uneven at best. He made some atrocious plays.

That said, anyone who looks at the Edmonton Oilers' defence depth chart and says we should healthy scratch Darnell Nurse is kidding themselves. First of all, not playing doesn't actually help make players better, and secondly, our defence looks challenged to say the least. The only one who seems to have his game together this far in to the season is Ceci. Everyone else seems intent on making a few glaring mistakes a game. We badly outplayed Buffalo last night, but when we did give them a chance, it was generally a great one. Three breakaways, plus a handful of times where they were able to walk out of the corner almost unchallenged.

Tage Thompson is a stupid name, but a pretty good hockey player. That goal he scored was a thing of beauty.

And Eric Comrie had a great night. The Oilers finishers could have done better, but it's hard to take anything from Comrie. We had double the shots they had and he stood tall.

Use the wall they said, it will be safe they said. Holloway took his buddy pass with a side of shoulder pad to the head. Maybe 37 can scan the ice a little better ? Just a thought.

How many times has Eric Comrie been on waivers? I always thought he could have been a good add, especially in the past few seasons where the Oilers have picked up or signed goalies like Stalock, Stolarz and Pickard for goaltending depth. You would think with his potential upside and being a hometown boy that he could have been brought in.

I guess with everything Sports, hindsight is 20/20.

How did he receive the cut on his nose then? That hard hit his head took on the ice you were claiming? 🙄

Without re-watching the hit, IIRC, the shoulder appeared to come up on the follow through. The chest was the initial and intended point of contact. I lean towards a clean hit via a suicide pass.

I thought the hit was a thing of a beauty, with an unfortunate end result for Holloway.

Other than it being hard, why do we think the hit was dirty? Holloway's head hit the blue shoulder yoke on top of Lyubushkin's shoulder after contact was made on hit chest. Foegele should know not to send hand grenades up ice, but young Dylan needs to learn to look around.

maybe.. but the definition of "clean" seems to vary by a super wide margin.. regardless.. you know an Oiler would have got a 3 game suspension from DOPeS for that hit.

.. back to the hit on Holloway.. the bigger problem is that they let Lyubushkin run around like a donkey taking runs at their Hart trophy winner in LD, almost putting him on IR (in fact I think was hurt on the play.. we'll see how he is in upcoming games..), then emboldened by that hit.. no retaliation or even a discouraging word from an Oiler.. he goes and tees off on their best rookie prospect, almost ruining his career with a concussion..

No other team puts up with that s**t.

<<Update:>>

I take back what said I about lacking retribution for Holloway's hit, on Lyubushkin at least, appears the donkey put himself on IR with that hit, left the game and never returned. Karma she is sweet.

Someone still should've gotten his attention after he tried to cripple Leon..

Yeah, originally I thought it was an elbow, but your summation is more accurate. I can I agree the head contact (which there certainly was) came as the result of an intended clean hit.

The cut on his nose came from his visor, which is attached to his helmet. The hit wasn’t a head shot. It’s pretty darn clear. But differing views are why we have some ppl in this province extremely happy that Danielle Smith is our premier.

Differing views can be valuable. It can sometimes open eyes. I did come around and say I felt it was not an intentional contact to the head. You know? Upon further review? Like claims about a players head taking a good whack on the ice when it didn’t even come within a foot of the ice? Go ahead and stand firm 😉
