Tippett is now 0-8. Time to fire up that discussion

In fairness to Hall, I've wanted to throw a waterbottle at Eakins all season.

I love the Devils playing Glory Days as a win song, especially with the organ for the three stars.

Ummm... I have some concerns about the defense.

I have some questions about the coaching. Perhaps a timeout after that icing maybe?

This coach man…

They were sure watching for the hand passes though.

The theme of subpar goaltending continues. Smith doesn't look right, and is slotting into the mediocrity that was there in his absence. Tip should have called a timeout prior to the late GTG after icing.

Oilers gave up a ton of big chances in OT and earlier. Smith made some big stops but let in 2 or 3 that shouldn't go in.

The team doesn't look good. It's a gamble to see if they get a bump from a coaching change, but if Holland thinks he's got the horses you have to wonder how much rope Tip has. Clearly Holland doesn't have the goaltending, though, so if might be anticipated that a move comes there at some point.

I wouldn't worry. Stauffer spent the whole game talking about how great Duncan Keith was doing, so we know he's not a problem anymore.

Some odd decisions from the coaching staff tonight. Dressing seven defencemen, so that you can still play Nurse 29 minutes and Barrie 25, while Koekkoek has just 8 and Lagesson just 2 is a head scratcher for sure.

Leaving Battling' Mikey Smith in there to let in that many weak goals all night is another interesting decision. Definitely is a big contributor to the loss tonight.

How about Ryan McLeod - scores two assists including a nice feed to McDavid in the first, finishes +2 on the night, but only sees 8 minutes of game time too...

The team is in freefall, and Holland has said he's planning to sit on his hands until he sees where we're sitting at the trade deadline, sooooo I don't know what to say. If the team misses the playoffs, is this the summer where our best players start asking to go elsewhere?

NYE in NYC and a matinee on NYD.
This isn’t a scheduled loss, it’s a scheduled whoopin.

Postgame, they all sound ok with losing. This team is broken.

Fun game. Whatever.

This is the same old team, year after year. Going nowhere fast.

Later gents. I'm not going to pay attention when the bottom completely falls out on this clown show of an organization, yet again.

Uh no? We replaced Lucic’s bad Stanley Cup winner leadership with Keith’s clearly superior Stanley Cup winning leadership. All the team needs is some help up front, a top 4 dman and to sort out the goalie situation and all of a sudden they’re contenders

eh, game today?

Looks like we lost, but hopefully Smith is back soon to help the team bounce back.

We obviously miss Nurse too. Team will be great again when he is back in the lineup.

Everyone remember when we were at like 95% chance to make the playoffs? Don’t look now, but we’re only slightly over 50% at this point.

So everyone is calling for Tippet to be fired. IMO he should have called a time out. I don't always agree how he deploys the team either. I guess my question is who would you replace him with? Babcock and Torts would probably invoke a vomiting response.

I don't claim to know any answer in terms of replacement, but Tip's status would depend on where Holland thinks he's at in the win window, whether the team is assembled properly, and whether the team gets a sustainable bump from a different voice. If the team finds itself mediocre and outside a playoff position, I don't think Tip has much rope. New coach can't start games on time, and can't make those couple stops that are required in net though, so I don't imagine the coach is the only move here if Holland thinks it's time.

You have to think that where the Hart guys are at in their Edmonton careers play a hand as well. As a fan, though, I would trade fancy goals, Hart trophies, Art Rosses, and Lindsays for a team that performs, plays for each other and contends, in a heartbeat. Don't get me wrong, I don't want great players traded away, I just want a damn winning hockey team.

Hell if I know if that solves any of the issues, but it's probably the easiest move.
