Per Gregor, Nurse is set to miss a few weeks.

I never saw anything. Not a suspect play or him wincing. He played OT and almost scored the winner. What the hell happened?
Any Nurse haters are going to get their wish and see what it's like without him.

Good lord. Is Duncan Keith a first pairing defenceman for the Edmonton Oilers now???
I suppose that means an extra call-up to go with Broberg?

Per puck pedia there needs to be a body put on LTIR to make room for the broberg call up as is... so either Nurse, Smith, Shore or Ryan will need to be put on LTIR for cap reasons.
4K is day to day apparently, so the Broberg call up is to replace Doc, not 4K

So next game the LHD is Keith, Russell, Broberg. That's...not good. Here's hoping Broberg is a stud.

Not ideal. Does Broberg get paired with Barrie? Do they shuffle the entire deck?
Keith-Ceci
Broberg-Barrie
Russ-Bouch
Broberg-Ceci
Keith-Bouch

However this is cut, it ain’t pretty.

I suspect they'll elevate Keith/Ceci to the top pair to start, but I don't think it's sustainable to be playing Keith 24+min a night for an extended period.
If I had to bet, I would think Tippett goes:
Keith/Ceci
Russ/Bouch
Broberg/Barrie
God forbid Broberg is on the ice for a couple of goals early. We might see the Oilers be the first team to only dress 5 defencemen for a game.

Thankfully, the schedule is pretty easy the next few weeks.
Chi, @Dal, @Ari, @VGK, Pit, @Sea, LAK
Most teams will struggle missing their starter and #1 Defence. Hopefully we can outscore any issues.

Smith to LTIR, eh? I guess he's not coming back any time soon! Maybe Stuart Skinner should start house shopping.

This injury simply does not happen to a player who takes proper care of his immune system.

If Nurse broke his finger, he's not playing for a couple weeks at minimum. Why is he not on LTIR

Well, LTIR means he couldn't come back in a couple of weeks. LTIR is a minimum of 24 days and 10 games.

One for sure. The other... could probably be managed with forward depth if the first was still ok. The D depth though...

Yeah. That’s why I said almost. I would have him as 2A most important player. McDavid is in a league of his own. Draisaitl is a better player than Nurse, but considering our lack of depth on D, I think they are equally important to the club, maybe even a slight edge to Nurse.
Any way you slice it, this is really not good.

LTIR can be done retroactively to the time of injury, so if Nurse ends up out 10 games, I would expect that they would move him. No point doing it before that just in case he's healthy before then.

Because we have both McDavid and Draisaitl, the loss of either would be somewhat mitigated. Nugent-Hopkins is a pretty good fill-in player for #2C - not many teams could put someone of his level in if one of they best two centers went down.
This isn't dissimilar to people believing Klefbom was the most tragic loss in McDavid's rookie year. With no depth, it can be a bigger hole, even if he's not a better player (although we still had Sekera back then, who I might STILL pick over Keith or Russel).

He better not make any mistakes in that first game...
Actually, seeing that Lagesson also got called out, it will be interesting to see if Broberg actually gets to play. I could see Tippett going with the older guy who he knows better and who has a low risk, low reward game...

Semi-related, but I feel like we've not really spent enough time talking about how devastating the loss of Klefbom has been this time around. If Klefbom doesn't get hurt, Nurse probably doesn't get stapled to McDavid for a full season and probably doesn't end up signing the contract that he did.
Never mind the fact that the ability to roll a left side that included Klefbom & Nurse means that the Oilers probably don't go chasing Keith or even think that they needed to sign Barrie to run the PP since Klefbom was managing that role quite well before he was injured.
A lot of the Oilers issues are self-inflicted, for sure, but the knock-on effects of the Klefbom injury are significant.

I saw something on twitter earlier today quoting Tippett “If he (Broberg) is called up then he’s getting called up to play.” Which makes sense, as he’s been logging some big minutes in the A. It would pretty stupid to remove him from his big minutes down there to sit in the press box and eat pizza up here. The oilers are that dumb... right? 😂

Well this is a kick in the nuts. We will see what this team is made of now. We appear to be paper thin on D and goalie. Need two prospects to fill huge lineup holes. How much leash do they get before we make a desperate overpay for a guy like Chariot in a trade?
I doubt these kids will ever get a bigger chance to make a huge NHL impression. I’m definitely pulling for them for a lot good reasons.
