I guess the loser point is better than nothing, but this was still a disappointment to watch.... icon_dead

Edomonton played a good grinding road game and so did Winnipeg. Very boring! Felt sorry for the fans who paid to be there and we lost on top of it all. Oh well....loser point is better than no point. Smith gets a shutout too, that's a positive ! Leon and Conner were just not in sync with themselves or each other. You don't see them play that sloppy very often.

Weird game from the parts I saw. Were the refs on crack? Every penalty they called was just total weak garbage, but they let all kinds of blatant slashes and interference go.

Clearly McDavid and Drai are going through a little down period, therefore we are going to barely score for a while. Hope it turns back around soon.

Puck seemed to bounce a lot tonight. 97 doesn’t miss that many opportunities.

Thought the same thing, penalties on both sides were totally weak, however, the breakaway by McD was a clear penalty, the Jet got his stick right in McDs hands as he was going to try and shoot, should have been a penalty shot.

Regardless of outcome.. I continue to be amazed at how good E. Bear is playing .. just unreal.
Oilers should sign him to an 8 year contract as soon as they can, he's going to be a top 2 or 4 D rightie, and I suspect he'll eventually be taking over the PP from K-bomb.

Bear is a beast. That corner battle with Schiefle was nothing short of awesome. My biggest surprise of the year.

Agreed, though it's not as much of a surprise to me. I also can't wait to see what Bouchard can do once he's ripened....

That was some incredible goaltending on both sides last night. A crazy amount of 2 on 1's in OT and either team could score. I wanted the win but I will take the point and the 7-1-1 record.

McDavid gets shutout in back to back games for the first time in a LONG time. Carlson passes him for first in scoring...

It'll be interesting to see how he responds to that...usually that means he's coming hard the next time up.

Just no tentativeness or indecision that leads to turnovers. He's had the odd coverage blunder, but he's the real deal with the puck. I think part of it is the stress by the staff on the forwards providing better support and an outlet, but cripes the kid looks comfy out there.

I concur, I find myself comparing him to Klefbom, much quicker decisions, and feet, Klefbom's feet seem to stop while he's thinking, a big pause, while forcheckers descend on him, blunders ensue, Bear doesn't, everything is more fluid... and he seems to be getting better game after game. Speed has become an asset of his.

Bear needs to be given more ice-time with Connor and Drai in OT- he would mesh better with them than Klef.

I agree, in one year of off season training Bear now has a legit pair of NHL wheels, much quicker than Klef. Klef always looks a little dopey in 3 on 3.

Bear attributed his skating to spending all off season in edmonton training with D. Pelltier. Wonder why some of the other Oilers haven't tried this, like Benning, Khaira, Klef.. if Bear could get that kind improvement you'd think others could as well.

I know the way of the Oilers fan is always to fall in love with new defencemen and have that immediately displace any older defencemen, but maybe we should take it a little slower with Ethan Bear?

I'm really happy with what I've seen from him before, but Oscar Klefbom is currently 6th in scoring for defencemen in the entire league - sitting at a point per game production currently. He's logging big icetime 24:56 per game - tops on the team by a full minute/game - and he's been paired with a rookie and Kris Russell so far this year so doing a lot of heavy lifting.

I think I'm pretty comfortable with him as the top dog for the moment. Maybe Bear has a chance to be that in the future (although he's going to have a lot of competition from behind with Bouchard, Jones, Broberg pushing) but it's not now. Let's not load the rookie's plate too much just yet.
