One grade A chance on the PP was nice.
Then Drai scores right after.

Have to say I’m a big fan of Smith’s puck playing and why it could mean for our defence and his lid/pads look real good

Good start to the game overall so far, in all seriousness. Now to see if they can sustain it for the rest of the game. Drai and his line in particular have been driving the play tonight at least for now....

Drai came to play tonight!
McDavid line is having a rough time getting in sync. But, part of that value of his line is opening up weaker defensive opposition for Drai/Nuge.

Meaning McDavid is having a rough time, still shaking the rust. Once he catches his stride, everyone else will just be holding on and enjoy the ride.

Rust might be part for sure.
I think the lack of time with his linemates isnt helping either. I think they said he played one game with Neil and zero with Nygard. When a player thinks and plays as fast as McDavid it can be tough to gel quickly.

Well, there is one of the weirder penalties I've seen an Oiler take. What was Cave thinking, exactly?

At least they didn't score on the PP? Visually, the Oilers PK has looked better.

Why were McD and Drai on the PK? Leave that to the jobbers.

It was close to the end of the Dys PP, so they were likely trying to get a jump by matching them up against their 2PP unit.
Ugh, please shake off that rust soon, Connor.

Is it just me or is Archibald a tire-fire out there? And if some of these tweeners are going to be bad at both ends of the ice, why not keep Gagner as he at least is good for 30+ points.

So are we just going to get 2 intermissions of Brian Burke now? All that house cleaning for this?

Definitely. McLellan did this too.
It's a fundamental misunderstanding of risk vs reward to throw the best player in the world on the penalty kill.

Not a horrible game. One complaint is that CHaisson and Khaira are total donkeys out there, lol.

Lots of bad time in our end created by 4th liners making garbage plays.

Enh...that wasn't a great goal for Smith. Long shot that he had a lot of look at. Bit of a touch by the defenceman tipped it a bit, but still...that wasn't so pretty.
We're being outplayed here. They need to pick it up.

These weak attempts to clear the zone, something they have been doing for years, continue to bite them in the ass. The 4th time tonight they could easily have cleared the zone but inexplicably did not. Other times led to extended sustained pressure. This time a goal.

He was def the goat on that goal. that kind of soft play will get you benched in a hurry
Felt bad for Smith on that one. The redirect was just enough to slip past and you could see his body language right away. Up to that point I think he has had a good game. Him playing the puck hasnt been talked about much since he signed but it can be a real advantage.

Think that ended up being a significant tip. Instead of going to his left it went to his right.
Thems the breaks when you can't clear your zone and start running around like goofs.

lol, why does Kharia look like Lucic around our blueline with the puck? Is there some curse that floats around our dressing room? His brain just stops working if he's near the puck with a chance to move it out.

JJ needs to get his head on straight or he'll be in Bakersfield in no time. Uuuuugly play with/around the puck.
McDavid just turning the afterburners a notch and skating straight through the Canucks. Beauty.

I wish we'd just score empty net goals once in a while. Seems to be something other teams always manage better against us than we get on them.

Hard to when you're compressed into your slot and only let 1 guy go out at a time with a lame reaching stick.
Hope that part of our play evolves. Wouldn't blame Tippett for not having worked on that much yet.
