Too many holes in their game, Best goalie wins although Talbot had some big moments at the end and in overtime. He dropped his stick just before the winning goal which looked like it threw him off. This team just seems to lapse into crappy play every so often and it always costs them. They give the puck away all over the ice and spend too much time chasing the game. They just seem to... you know....Suck! Must have forgotten to practice the penalty kill during the time off. Calgary has a reputation for coming back after being down a goal or few and the Oilers are the exact opposite, blowing leads by falling apart when under pressure. Have pretty much lost all faith in Talbot as a starter ( although you can't hang it all on him of course ) Maybe he's at a point where he would welcome a change too. Their "character" was on full display in the third.

I don’t understand how a team can look like world beaters and then a team that can’t complete a pass in a matter of a few shifts in the 3rd.

Worst OT in a long time. Huge gaffe by Russell leading to that goal. Laziness.

I'm feeling pretty moral about this one. About 2/3rds of the way through the second the Oilers were outscoring, outshooting, outfaceoffing, outhitting and outeverythingelseing the Flyers. If there were only two periods like at the All Star game this was an easy win.

Had a bit of an identity crisis early on, carrying the play, dominating the shot clock, pushing back and sticking up for each other.

By the end of the game, they found their identity again.

It was a fun two periods to watch other than the PK. I fooled myself for the millionth time that they had turned a corner. I’m such a sucker.

Turned a corner? Doesn’t Talbot now hold the record for goals given up on the very first shot against?

Have to admit I was right there with ya. After the Lars goal... especially after the Kassian goal, I was a Rieder goal away from my pants flying across the room. Alas, the Oilers Oilered and my pants stayed on.

The movement on the PP looked a bit better.. but they struggle mightily without a right shot on the half boards.

Also, I much prefer Klefbom to Nurse on the powerplay but what can ya do.

PK has been poop for a few years now. They’re just not good from the crease out.

5v5 was a breath of fresh air... for 35 minutes.

Sums up Oilers. Find a way to lose. Brodziak and Kassian penalties put the dagger in the heart of a good game.

I'm an Oiler fan through and through. But we should trade Conner for the good of, well it just would be for the good of everyone involved. Even us Oiler fans. This is beyond embarrassing and the legacy of the best player unfortunately is more important than Oiler fans feelings.

You can't be up 3-1 and lose. With Ken freaking Hitchcock as your coach that is an anomaly in badness. Even if you just park all 5 guys in front of the goal and stop even trying for offense.

You simply cannot let in the first shot every time and call yourself an NHL goaltender.

I hate to say it but this team should go to Houston. Seriously. Then slide the Coyotes back to the pacific. It would serve Katz and this city right. Let Rogers stand empty and let the breeze blow through it. Put homeless or refugees up in there or something.

The only other option is package Lucic with our first and second rounder and get him the hell outta here. Trade Larsson to regain the pick. If Muzzin gets you a first then Larsson would too. Start from scratch.

There is no way Kevin Lowe and MacT are to blame. Not even Katz. This is just beyond anybody's fault. This isn't even Cleveland Browns territory.

There is a palatable anti-Edmonton bias in this league. Nobody, Gordie Howe (R.I.P.), Bobbie Orr, Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby, Conner McDavid nobody will change that. Bring on the AHL. We already cheer for a feeder team in a feeder league called the Eskimos. If you need to watch live pro hockey you could watch the new AHL team or the Oil Kings. If the NHL leaves town that doesn't mean hockey is over. Kids will still play street hockey. Winter will still happen and water will still freeze for kids to skate on. In the internet age you can follow any team anywhere if you gotta watch NHL.

Being held hostage by feelings for a special time and place in the 80's is asinine. Those days are over. It's time to move on. Nostalgia is not enough reason to continue to hope for a return to something that you can never return to. The Oilers will never be great again and I guarantee that if Lowe is fired tomorrow nothing changes. I mean does anyone wear head bands, neon spandex and hairspray their hair into an 80's poof anymore? No.

We have to let Connor move on I hate to say it.

This is simply not a major league city. When the oil industry goes just let us be and let us be like Saskatoon.

I like being right. I like making good life choices. Choosing to not watch games has allowed me that opportunity many times over the past twelve years.

I like being or at least feeling smart. Disagreeing with everything the Oilers do, has also provided me with the opportunity to feel smart many many times over the past twelve years.

These are the reasons that I am greatful for the Oilers.

This is true. I've never gotten anything more right than Dallas Eakins second season as head coach. I was so far out in front of that train wreck I had a lawn chair set up, the BBQ was going, and was on my 14th beer by the time the crash inevitably happened. It was an oddly fun few months of a season for me.

Hey now, I know we stole your Lacrosse team but cmon man! lmao

On a more serious note re: this team;
It’s apparent LD has skill. Tons of it. And when Leon wants, he can move his big frame pretty well. It’s also quite apparent he’s best suited for Conner’s wing/faceoff man. Sure, it would be great to have he and McDavid as a 1-2 punch, but when it’s been attempted the last 2 seasons it’s just not worked for whatever reason.

It’s not a terrible thing to have Leon with McDavid. It fixes one of the issues we’ve had in a top 6 winger. Now yeah it creates a gap a centre, but Nuge is a great 2C (that Khaira-Nuge-Puljujarvi line looked rather good), so the hole it creates is 3C. I’d assume it’s easier and cheaper to find a 3C than it would be a top line winger. Especially a team who, really, only has 2 top 6 wingers in Chiasson and Lucic, who really are bottom 6 wingers.

Puljujarvi is much like Leon, where he’s effective when he’s engaged and keeping his legs moving. But we need to get this kids confidence up. The top PP unit clearly needs a right shot trigger man on the half wall... he should be stapled there. He’s shown his shot to be lethal, when he gets a chance to use it. Are there flaws in his game? Yeah for sure... he’s 20. I’d love love love to see a Drai-McDavid-Puljujarvi line. Load it up. And the three of them, along with Klef (when healthy, Nurse when Klef is out) and a net front presence like Lucic, not necessarily Lucic.

LOL!

I'm currently driving around downtown Edmonton, looking for you on the ledges of highrises.

DON'T JUMP!

2015/2016 - This Kool-Aid tastes like McDavid flavoured Drain-O.
2016/2017 - This Kool-Aid is starting to taste like juice.
2017/2018 - I'm drinking this Kool-Aid, in hopes that it's Drain-O.
2018/2019 - Another round of Drain-O, good sir!

did Cam Talbot honestly let in the first shot on goal again

how is that even possible, he must hold a record of some kind

don’t care if the defence is banged up, ship this dude out, he’s broken

Yep. To be fair to him though, the PK let the Philly player set up right in front of the net and did nothing to stop the pass for the easy tap in.

Yeah, as bad as letting in the 1st is.. not much CT could have done there, guy sitting back door for a slam in, D-man should have had him tied up, too many guys looking at the puck instead of looking for the open men .. same old .. same old..

McDAVID! Oh YEAH Baby!!

It's not just Talbot, it's a team thing. We have been doing this a lot for several years now. Would happen to Dubs, would happen to Scrivens, happens to Koskinen too. It's a self fulfilling prophecy for this team, we play like idiots in our end at the start of almost every game, and the brains don't start working until that first goal gets scored against. And a lot of times it's off the first shot off a golden opportunity.

It may simply be something that bad teams do :) We love to let the other team dictate how the game will be played. This team for the most part is just mentally fragile and aimless. You have McDavid and a bunch of guys that don't know their role, or can't think and move fast enough to fulfill their role even if they know what it is.

I was really hopeful that Hitch could spark something in these players brains and get them all on the same page, but it all looks basically the same still. These guys are just not capable. I know Nicholson said he saw them play good at some point, and therefore they should be able to play that way every night. Just doesn't work that way. Almost all good runs this season were a result of goalies doing crazy backflips along with some puck luck. Waiting for both of those to happen at the same time to be able to ever win games is just not enough to be a good team.

This team is not making the playoffs

I don’t understand how a team can look like world beaters and then a team that can’t complete a pass in a matter of a few shifts in the 3rd.

Did McDavid leave the ice between those two points?
