For comparison, McDavid and Crosby both made around 15.5% of the salary cap in the first year of their biggest deals and consumed the most cap.
With a projected cap of 113.5M when this deal starts, Makar would be at 18%.
This deal is absolutely bonkers.

The max a player can sign right now is 20.8M AAV, so Makar gave Colorado a 0.4M discount :)
Next summer will be ~22.7M. Quinn Hughes probably thinking about that right now.

Just listened to Hughes being interviewed on 32 Thoughts and money is a high priority for him. Without saying it, he definitely made it clear he believes he’s the best dman in the league and should be compensated for it.

I could honestly see Guerin finding a way to offer near that maximum. Their owner has approved some crazy things in the past, like those Suter/Parise deals. Maybe Hughes will still want to see if Jersey will do the same to unite the bros.
