A few high profile current and former players made an entire brand out of being victimised by some mean things a hockey coach said to them. I'm shedding a tear right now for Mike modano and Patrick Laine. I hope they can overcome this trauma.
And the media - particularly tools like Jason gregor ran with the story and Oilers fans by and large gobbled it up and bought the big bad mike babcock narrative hook line and sinker.
Anyway we will see if he's actually still a good coach or not but this whole thing about how he's the worst person in the world because he called fat Mike Commodore fat was always hilarious.
Although I will say they probably aren't going be signing Noah Gregor anytime soon so that will be tough to overcome.

It would have been a worse mess for the NHL and NHLPA to explain why they suddenly decided the alleged infractions were serious enough to suspend Babcock today.. when at the time they never considered it serious enough to further investigate once he resigned.. the resignation should have been irrelvant to an investigation.
With this out of the way my only concern with the hire is whether he can still coach at a high enough level.. its been a very long tme.. Hoping he can inspire some of the poorer performing players to reach a higher level.. I don't get the feeling Knobby was providing much of that.. I'd imagine he was really good at analyzing play and instructing players.. but motivational inspiration seems a stretch.
Guess we'll find out the truth by Christmas time whether babcock's coaching abilities are real or done.
One thing thats becoming clearer is that Vegas was not going to let Oilers talk to Cassidy at all.. so it came down to Babcock or some other unemployed NHL coach.. none leap to mind.
The main concern I have right now is Bowman.. and what he's going to do with all the cap space he has.. I don't trust the Oilers player assesment ability.. either the Oil's own players or those of the other NHL teams.. I'm already cringing.. a pre-UFA-cringe
