A few high profile current and former players made an entire brand out of being victimised by some mean things a hockey coach said to them. I'm shedding a tear right now for Mike modano and Patrick Laine. I hope they can overcome this trauma.
And the media - particularly tools like Jason gregor ran with the story and Oilers fans by and large gobbled it up and bought the big bad mike babcock narrative hook line and sinker.
Anyway we will see if he's actually still a good coach or not but this whole thing about how he's the worst person in the world because he called fat Mike Commodore fat was always hilarious.
Although I will say they probably aren't going be signing Noah Gregor anytime soon so that will be tough to overcome.

I think the truth likely lies in the middle. It seems like people want to believe there are only two types of people. Soft and "men", who need to suck it up. Babcock may be able to coach in the NHL, but he better adapt. What people now call 'snowflakes' are on every roster. Regardless of what people label them, the coach needs to work with what he has in front of them. This is on Babcock to adapt or be left behind.
To be fair, this rhetoric is as old as time. We are way softer than our forefathers, but we also live longer and for the most part are happier.
Babcock will age out like Don Cherry if he does not dummy up. FWIW, Babs is a jerk. Met him numerous times and if you are not someone that helps him get something, then you are a pleb and he talks down to you like you are worthless. He had a cabin near my place and believed his own hype. Mixed emotions. I love this team and want success, but want Babcock to eat half his last name.
