Ridiculously accurate comment from a former Nurse coach in that article:
One previous coach from earlier in Nurse’s career described him best, when he said, “I felt that he was receptive with the info that I was giving him at the time, but it never transferred into his play during the games. Especially when pressure was ramped up.
“He always gave you the feeling that he saw himself more as an offensive defenceman and would make some terrible reads with and without puck at critical times in games.
“Hockey sense was always a concern for me.”
That's basically Nurse his whole time here. Purely reactive defensive play, and a constant urge to gamble offensively, no matter the score or situation. Guys game has barely matured in the last half decade or so. He's so consistently what he is, that his performance is almost completely dependent on how well his D partner can cover his butt. Some guys have done it for a period of time, like Murphy the last month or so of the year, Kulak for different periods, Bear, Ceci and some others. But eventually those guys get worn down by the difficulty of being his babysitter and they all eventually fail with him.
Fingers crossed we can move on from Darnell ASAP and the cost isn't too great.
